Just getting back into Magic: Affinity

Ok, so this coming Thursday I'm playing my first sanctioned tournament since 2009, in the Modern format using Affinity (something I'm familiar with from old Standard, at least the general idea).  I played in a Legacy event (unsanctioned, 10 proxies allowed) this Thursday (they alternate weeks) with a Tezzeret Affinity deck and went 1-3..it didn't go so well.  Anyways, onto the point.  I've been goldfishing it quite a bit in the last couple days and I've noticed a few things: 1) it sometimes just gets land screwed or land flooded, one or the other more often than not.  2) It just seems slow to me, but I don't know what to expect in the Modern scene for speed (like..I don't know if a Plated Vault Skirge or either Nexus plated is good enough to win games, or if I should go more for the Signal Pest pumped swing with the team method).  Anyways, here's my list:

3x Blinkmoth Nexus
4x Inkmoth Nexus
4x Darksteel Citadel
1x Mountain
1x Island
4x Mox Opal
3x Glimmervoid

4x Springleaf Drum
4x Cranial Plating
1x Steelshaper's Gift
4x Galvanic Blast
4x Thoughtcast
3x Master of Etherium
3x Etched Champion
2x Arcbound Ravager
4x Vault Skirge
4x Signal Pest
3x Memnite
4x Ornithopter

sideboard (no idea on metagame, shot in the dark):

2x Ancient Grudge
1x Etched Champion
3x Pithing Needle
3x Tormod's Crypt
3x Chalice of the Void
3x Spellskite

Any advice on changes or modifications on numbers from players more familar with the format and what I should expect to see would be greatly appreciated :-)
it seems like you're asking if you should run classic affinity or Tempered Steel Affinity.

The basic list in my meta for Tempered Steel Affinity is:

Sideboard is what you expect to face there. Hope this helps!

Lord_Zed: I was at my friends house when this happened. He's married and his wife was an excellent baker. She had baked a homemade apple pie the night before. I was hungry, and my friend convinced me to try those low carb monster drinks. Before this day, I had never triend energy drinks before. Boy was I in for a treat. When I tried that first monster, I really enjoyed the flavor, but the taste that it left in my mouth wasn't so good. What was my solution? Drink another! before I could finish drinking that 2nd monster, I felt it already kicking in(these drinks were not very far apart, we're talking minutes here) my friend decided that it was a good idea to whip out that fresh pie his wife made the night before. I didn't know what to do, since I felt incredibly invigorated, and at the same time, freaked out by the rush I was feeling, but I was also hungry, and my friend have me an entire plate with a fork and said "help yourself." He extended his saucer to me, and I cut him a piece of the pie and handed it to him, then I looked at the pie, noticed that the pie was in an aluminum holder, and dumped the entire pie onto my plate and started eating it with 2 forks. I don't know where I found that other fork, it probably came from my friend. Anyhow, his wife wasn't happy, and I was already in magical christmas land. 2 days later, I was in my friends bed and I slept for 14 hours. His wife outlawed my from having any of her baked goods for a while(which sucked because I could just show up at there house, steal some sweets, and leave) and said I couldn't have any energy drinks at her house, unless under close watch. My friend, on the other hand, had to take me out to a steak dinner, because apparently I won a bet where I climbed a tree and didn't die.

Thanks...it does

actually I've heard of tempered steel affinity but been mulling over going with either the list I posted or a Tezz Affinity type of thing but it seems like the list I posted is more consistent and faster killing (unless I god-draw with tezz, of course).  I don't have Paths, Legionaires, Glacial fortresses or seachrome coasts so I think I'm going to ride my list and bring a bunch of extra cards with me and build a board based on what I see :-)  Chalice of the Void is the only iffy card I've got in my board right now..seems kinda slow.  Might take it out for removal of some kind.  Lately I've been using a different shuffling method (still random or as random as I can get) and it seems like its working better.  There's a big unknown for me as to what the meta is and how fast it is, so I don't even know if its viable at all lol.
when you get there, ask what people are playing. Also, I would suggest cutting a Mox Opal. Three of it is fine, and you don't draw too many as the game progresses. I played a LOT of Tepered Steel in Standard, and nothing hurts more than topdecking an Opal when you already have one in play.

Speaking of a Tezz list, which one were you thinking of using?

The U/B Tezz.  Here's something I found on the net similar to what I'd actually run (otherwise known as something I have all the cards for):

4 Darksteel Citadel
4 Inkmoth Nexus
4 Island
3 Swamp

4 Memnite
4 Ornithopter
4 Signal Pest
4 Frogmite
4 Myr Enforcer
4 Etched Champion
4 Master of Etherium

3 Mox Opal
4 Springleaf Drum
4 Cranial Plating
3 Tezzeret, Agent of Bolas
4 Thoughtcast
Lol. Pretty sure thisis actually my list. I built it to be an aggro deck that used Tezz to search for more beaters and pump my random Artifacts. It works fine for an aggro list, but I can help you with a control list as well.

I think I'll roll with the list I posted initially and see how it goes the first week (the non-tezz build).  And here's where I got the Tezz list from:www.mtgthesource.com/forums/showthread.p...
cool. PM me with the results if you wanna fine tune it afterwards!

First time caller, long time Robut player.

As much as folks want to eliminate it from the deck, Arcbound Ravager is still too good to cut. Drew an extra mox? Boom +1/+1! Drew too many lands/springleaf drum? Boom +1/+1! The guy makes sure that almost no card you can draw is a dead card.

In regards to being more specific to your list. Why not include the following?

Blinkmoth Nexus
Glimmervoid
Watery Grave/Underground River

I'd also take out Myr Enforcer he's just too slow. Without all the artifact lands he just doesn't add up to much.

I'll be sure to do that :-)

and @ Disturbed: I agree on Ravager, at least in Modern.  And my original post (non-tezz) does include Blinkmoth+Inkmoth and Glimmervoid. I'm running the one Mountain and one Isand in case I get Path to Exile'ed, so I can at least fetch something.   I'm still tweaking the Tezz list, thanks for the input.  And I don't have Myr Enforcer in my original-post Modern list, for exactly the reason you noted :-)
