b/u midrange with a red splash for removal. the nefarox and shimian spectre forced me into black. the second colour was hard to pick because no other colour had a very good creature pool, but i chose blue for the evasion and the fog banks

2 Unsummon

The  focus of this build is to stall while heavily controlling your draw power, setting up for Hamletback Goliath or Sphinx of Uthuun equipped with the rings. Mogg Flunkies is actually cheap, late game fodder for the Goliath, while Clock of Omens is there to use the rings as untap fodder for Chronomaton (which is a good candidate for the rings if the large creatures look to be too far into the deck) or Staff of Nin.

Running 18 land due to the heavy mana costs at the top and almost no ramp.  Sphinx and Nefarox plus the large number of exalted and evasion creatures made it an easy choice.  I considered splashing red, but with no color fix at all I don't think it's worth it.

Edit:  Some other people were choosing Green so I decided to give this another look and see what that deck might look like.  It's actually pretty decent although I found it a bit light on creatures.  I put together a black/green deck with a splash of red that farseek made me more comfortable doing.   I was also able to shave some land since I had 3 ramp cards unlike my previous deck which had zero.

No Black removal... Groan... I ran Black anyway because of strong creatures.  I ran Red for removal, and hoping that the artifacts and Green tie the deck together to produce a winner.

Although the Sphinx is good, the rest of the blue is not very good.  The green is solid with 2x spider, and has Farseek and Arbor Elf for ramping.  The Farseek allows for a slight splash, with Flames and Searing Spear.  the other option is to run white instead of the red, giving you removal in the verdict and double elephant.

This was rather underwhelming :p but, not every one is a winner XD i went black/red, looking to use the bloodthrone vamps as my  endgame with possible shenanagins from staff of nin/ clock of omens

Black/red wins the card quality by a mile here. I decided to use plenty of Exhalted and combine it with as many evasive creatures as possible (there were a LOT - intimidate, flying, unblockable and protection from white were all there)

The blue and white pools were abysmal.

Green may have been splash-able with the Elf, Farseek and Rancor, but still wasn't worth stretching mana in my opinion. Black/red gave a very comfortable mana curve and a strong range of threats.

Harder build than I thought as creatures are hard to come by.  Splashed red for some other good removal and an evasive creature.

Those who fear the darkness have never seen what the light can do.

I've seen angels fall from blinding heights. But you yourself are nothing so divine. Just next in line.

Or enchantments, for that matter. "Well, you see, Jimmy cast this spell to flood the mountain, but then the gorgon just looked at the water really hard and it went away."

B/U/r was a pretty easy choice, though no real mana fixers figured the removal spells alone made the red splashable especially with few draw sources

Clock of Omens is there to use the rings as untap fodder for Chronomaton (which is a good candidate for the rings if the large creatures look to be too far into the deck) or Staff of Nin.

I like this idea.  At first I tried a black/blue build and wasn't liking it.  I decided to try the other colors instead and came up with this:

Firefox still doesn't work for me with the sealed deck builder.
R/B a little top heavy and a little creature light, but doable.  I kinda wanted to run blue just so I could run 5 Indexes to be silly, but in the end common sense prevailed.

From Mark Rosewater's Tumblr: the0uroboros asked: How in the same set can we have a hexproof, unsacrificable(not a word) creature AND a land that makes it uncounterable. How does this lead to interactive play? I believe I’m able to play my creature and you have to deal with it is much more interactive than you counter my creature.

MaRo: One of the classic R&D stories happened during a Scars of Mirrodin draft. Erik Lauer was sitting to my right (meaning that he passed to me in the first and third packs). At the end of the draft, Erik was upset because I was in his colors (black-green). He said, "Didn't you see the signals? I went into black-green in pack one." I replied, "Didn't you see my signals? I started drafting infect six drafts ago."

Black is an obvious choice.  I didn't like red's creature selection, so I went with blue with it's 2 Fog Banks.  White lacked creatures.  Green might have done ok, but again I found it's creature selection somewhat lacking.  I'm surprised as to how few people took Ring of Kalonia.  Granted I'm not playing green but the trample ability is a must for black's exalted capability.

Hoping to use kill spells, and get the Farseek to ramp up quickly to Shimian Specter.  Exalted creatures and some pump spells/trample ring to help boost it up.  Would have liked to have run blue instead of green, but felt like it would have been pushing the mana too hard.

2 Sentinel Spiders are very hard to pass up in limited.  Also since I was going green 2 Elephants that are 4 for a 4/4 seemed really good reason to splash white along with the Verdict and Captains Call, pair that with 2 red Trumpet Blasts and burn you have a pretty decent deck.  Also the Clay are good for anything as well.  Only thing lacking was a couple red goblin makers for the Trumpets to help ramp.
