I've decided to play some kind of GWB good stuff deck for the first few weeks after rotation. Once the meta starts to shape up, I can go back to playing some kind of control, since that's my thing, but until then, I like the idea of cramming the best cards I can into a GWB midrange deck. I haven't created a formal list because that isn't my strongest suit (especially in an archetype I'm unused to in an unknown meta), but I wanted some feedback on card choices before I start to actually come up with some numbers.

I'm thinking Elvish Visionarys, Centaur Healers, Restoration Angels, Thragtusks, and Armada Wurms if I can get a hold of them without too much trouble/expenditure. I'm not sure, but it seems like manadorks would be good, too, and maybe Loxodon Smiters.

As far as non-creature spells go, I'm thinking Rancor, Grisly Salvage, Golgari Charm, Selesnya Charm, Lingering Souls, an Unburial Rites or two, and removal of course, although I'm not sure in what form.

Liliana of the Veil and Vampire Nighthawk are tempting options as well, but it seems as though black will be the least dominant color of the three, making a bit unfeasable.

Thoughts? Does the deck have enough focus to win? Are there any obvious choices I've missed?
You may need a touch more fixing with things like Birds of Paradise and Llanowar Elves rotating out.  Farseek is an excellent option, fetching a non-green land to fulfill whatever secondary color requirements you might need at the moment.  I'm also curious to see if Mana Bloom is as good as it looks... I'm especially intrigued by its ability to return to your hand if it has no counters on it at the beginning of your upkeep.

You've got some pretty good beef to your creatures, so I don't see you having too much trouble making Tragic Slip work for you as spot removal.  I agree with staying away from double black mana costs, Junk is at its most realistic with a focus on green with white and black as secondary colors.  So a double G would be okay if needed (my Junk deck - with a different focus than yours - needs it for Champion of Lambholt), but double white or double black is likely less consistently castable.

Bloom is awful. Farseek is basically stictly better.
disciple of bolas works well in a deck full of value creatures.

this will likely be the deck i'll play after trying control.... all the lands i need... i'm gonna have to drop like 200 on lands alone when RTR hits MODO, never mind the spells.

Yeah, I'm a paper Magic guy, but I'm hoping to either sell or trade a bunch of my rotating rares so that I can get the lands I need.

Finally made a rough list, but it needs criticism, since I know I'm not great at making my own lists:

Edit: For the SB, I probably want to add another Sever, some Ultimate Price, O-Rings, Golgari Charm, Selesnya Charm, and some kind of GY hate. I'm just wondering what hate to run, since I'm looking at either relatively low-impact cards like Cremate or Purify the Grave, or cards that hose my own graveyard like Rest in Peace or Cage. I'm wondering if subbing in Deathrite Shaman over the Pilgrims for GY hate would work.
Its more of a preference thing because there are people out there who disagree with me, but in a deck without tutoring, I don't use singletons. This is because you can't rely on drawing them on any kind of regular basis... so either you're okay with not drawing it very often - in which case, why is it there at all - or you aren't okay with drawing it very often - in which case you should add more.

I'm ok with drawing Disciple of Bolas (and Rites, really) only so often because he's only good conditionally. I'd hate to see more than one in the early or even mid game. As far as Sever and Rites go, they  both have flashback and can be dumped into the GY with Salvage, while grabbing a card I want in my hand. Playing Salvage on turn two or three means that between those 5 plus opening hand, I've seen 20%+ of my deck, so it's not unrealistic to see a singleton. Plus, I'm not relying on any of the singletons to win, they're just usually nice to see at some point in most games. Unburying Thragtusk, or even Angel depending on the board, is pretty good, but not something I need to do every game.

Cards that you really don't want to see twice but that are good if you draw only one in the game can be singletons. Things like Sphinx's Revelation, for example, are crippling if you get two in your opening, but one of them can be devastating.

Yeah... Until next game, where it'll be right back. Seriously, there's no way to deal with Rancor in any format. It should be banned, except Gleemax is a lobbyist for the Rancor party, so that'll never happen.
You can't ban rancor, it just returns to your deck.

Sure his power level leaves very little to the imagination (opening Jace is like opening a refrigerator box with a naked girl on the inside), and sure his price does have a strong impact on what players choose to play (playing Jace is like being intimate with a woman and she doesn't charge you in the morning), but it is not the source of all the problems in Standard.

How do people think saving room to print more abilities on cards is dumbing down the game?

Do you really think, say, Akroma would ever be printed if she said, "Akroma can block by creatures with this ability and cannot be blocked by creatures without this ability.  If a creature without this ability would deal combat damage by Akroma would be destroyed, prevent all combat damage that creature would deal to Akroma this combat.  Attacking does not cause Akroma to tap.  If Akroma is blocked and deals lethal damage, it deals the remainder of its damage to the defending player.  Akroma may attack and use abilities that require tapping in the casting cost the turn it enters the battlefield.  Akroma cannot be damaged, enchanted, equipped, blocked or targeted by black or red sources" rather than her "dumbed down" wording she has?  No freaking way.  Keywording and shorthand allows them to make complicated cards easy to play with, allowing them to be printed in the first place.

4. donate them a platinum angel
5. play a mox lotus and braingeyser them for every card in their library. play an opalescence and donate them a glorious anthem and a blacker lotus, then play enchanted evening. play and activate a mindslaver and then donate them a fastbond and the mox lotus (returning one of the donates to your hand with eternal witness or whatever)
6. during their turn, play every permanent in their hand (playing lands with fastbond) then (as yourself) cast mirrorweave on the blacker lotus, so every permanent becomes a copy of it. proceed to tear up every card they control, and hopefully do it before they notice that they aren't bound by staying power's ability anymore and can concede

This flow, sometimes called convection, is cited by frustrated box mappers as one of WOTC's most genious uses of thermodynamics since the Ravnica block. No one knows what lies at the core of the booster box, but scientists theorize that it must be especially dense in order to make up for the large amount of fluff distributed amongst the booster packs.

He proceeds to wring his hands and twirl his evil mustache that he grew for twirling purposes as a lightning bolt strikes in the background. JuliusPringle wrote:

Yeah. Talk to the cashier. Tell him/her that you want a Black Lotus, and if they don't have one tell them that the store isn't on par with what you expected.

Reach into your back left pocket. Pull out a deck list that you copied directly from some ChannelFireball top 8 Standard discussion, and ask for all the cards, as is, on that list. Then, ask for some random, probably terrible cards from whatever set is Standard legal. Say it's tech for the upcoming changes in the metagame.

Pull out a deck, and tell some random dude you wanna test (you have to use the term "test" for this to work) for Standard. Make sure that deck contains Kitchen Finks and Alluring Siren. Maybe throw in Nyxathid for good measure.

Finally, before you leave, spill (make it look like an accident) one hundred singleton, random cards onto the floor. Pick them up, put them in a pile, and say "EEE-DEE-AYCH".

I know this sounds dumb at first, but it will work. With the method outlined above, you will draw the attention of players that play older formats by asking for cards that no one on Earth can reasonably afford. You will get the attention of the wanna-be pro, Stomp-n00bz players by pulling out a well known decklist and declare that you have "tech" to make it better. You will get the attention of all the kind, helpful players by seemingly not knowing the most common format by having non-Standard legal cards in a deck that you claim is Standard legal. Finally, you catch all the rest of the Magic players by saying "EEE-DEE-AYCH" (EDH (or Commander)).

And there you have it. You will be talking to more people than you would have wanted to talk to in no time.

Thoughts on the deck? I was also considering Appetite for Brains in the SB.
I'm running a very similar deck to this that has been doing well in play testing.

2 x armada wurm
3 x thragtusk
2 x wolfir silverheart
4 x restoration angel
4 x avacyns pilgrim
3 x deathrite shaman
3 x loxodon smiter
3 x centaur healer
2 x disciple of bolas
3 x elvish visionary
1 x unburial rites
3 x selesnya charm
3 x oblivion ring
2 x abrupt decay

4 x overgrown tomb
4 x temple garden
4 x sunpetal grove
4 x isolated chapel
4 x evolving wilds
1 x gavony township
1 x tomb of the archangel

Posting this from my phone so aorry out is a bit cramped. Mt sideboard so far has been...

3 x rest in peace
2 x abrupt decay
3 x thalia
4 x dryad militiant
1 x thragtusk
1 x sigarda
1 x trostani
I've personally found that 8 shocklands is a bit harsh on your life total. If you don't need access to that color on turn one, a gate or two instead of a shockland may be better in the long run.  Although if you can get to Thragtusk that does help the situation out a bit.

I actually thought the same thing at first but since you only need to pay the life if you need that mana right then its not so bad between centaur healer, thragtusk, and restoration angel I generally end up netting a good bit of health. Still, I can see where your coming from there I could probably drop the overgrown tombs and two isolated chapels for two woodland cemetery, two forest, one swamp and one plains

you don't have to pay the life for the lands

this is why shocklands are ALWAYS to be played before any gate lands are even considered.  ALWAYS

A shockland when you don't want to pay the life is the SAME thing as a Gate, but with the added option of having it come in un-tapped if you want. It can also be tutored with things like Farseek. There is no reason to run a Gate over a Shockland, as they are the same thing, but shocks give you more capabilities.
I also like the shock lands because they let the core duals enter play untapped. Evolving wilds does allow you to fetch for the shock lands right?

No. Shocklands are nonbasic lands that happen to have basic land types. Wilds only finds basic lands.

Anyway, guys, I'm thrilled that we finally worked out that Shocklands are indeed better than Gates, but I'd like to stay on topic... Seriously, I've only gotten about 2 replies that are actually some kind of advice, and that was before I even posted a list.
I wouldn't recommend the Deathrite Shamans over the Pilgrims if your only going to run two Grisly Salvages, he needs lands in your yard to ramp. And, I've been testing with Appetite for Brains in the sideboard of a Junk list and its been good so far. Did you decide against Armada Wurm because of the price?

I want to play Centaur Healer than Lingering Souls...Bonfire will be around. Healer have bigger body and can buy time also great with Restoration. Lingering Souls goes in SB

Thoughts? Anything to change?

No, and someone has already said why. But Farseek on the other hand, is an outstanding piece of mana-fixing.

As for the deck OP, I personally think that your build needs 2 Armada Wurm, just like everything else that's using G/W. That card is that good.

And this is entirely me, I know, but I really, REALLY like Cloudshift.
I want to be Cultured.
My land is 23 so Wurm is not fit for my deck. Cloudshift is fine but no room for my deck. Wurm is good for Ramp. Restoration Angel is Cloudshift anyway. No need for Cloudshift. Life deck is so much fun and did beat Gerry's Jund Zombies and Ari's Junk Tokens

What is Good Junk? Ramp? Blink? Seems thread is messing up
@Mallrat - Seriously? 23 land and EIGHT mana spuds and you don't think you can afford to run one christ of a bargain 6 drop?

And I would also ask whether the Call of the conclaves are ott in terms of body count. That gives you 4 things in your deck that aren't bodies, and only 2 of those give you any sort of answer to anything...

But I ain't hating, that's just my read, that's the beauty of the game and all that =]

As for your question, I think Blink is the way to go. I clearly love Cloudshift far too much lol, but in that deck it just does so much! Use it to answer a spot removal to fizzle their Dreadbore, and get yourself a bunch of life and cards with Disciple, or a bunch of life and a body with Thragtusk, or a 5/5 trampler with Armada Wurm... For W at instant speed. The thing has versatility coming out the eyeballs!

No? Just me then?

Mana creatures are target. Good for opponent to waste their removal anyway. I am not running Ramp so for now...without Wurm. Maybe after the game if I want it. Ramp is best place for Wurm or Reanimator. Junk is wrong color for Blink. GWU or GWR is better color for Blink deck. What cards to blink black? We are long way to go and can't tell how good any decks are til next month. Nobody is safe and deck is going to be as fun. Plenty of decks to look around...around 50 lists to look lol Good luck with your Cloudshift deck...hope it is very fun!
Armada Wurm isn't in the list simply because of the price. If I pull any or can trade for some, they'll definitely be in there.

I feel like Smiter is a little bit too aggro for this build, and I'd rather run him in the SB. Another two Healers and another Dead Weight or something in their place. Or Abrupt Decay, assuming I can get my hands on any (another card I won't assume to have access to on account of budget constraints).
Oh well. I seen one list that have 4 of Armada Wurm and 4 of Angel of Serenity. It have ramp along with mana creatures build in. Gonna be the most expensive deck lol

There up and down talk for Smiter and Healer for main spot. Smiter is not good blink but good discard (likely not or maybe). Healer is excellent blink. Choice is yours. Alot are eyeing on Mono Red and Zombies...I am surely they are fast. Healer might be way to go and too good with Restoration blink. Also Lingering Souls can be on main than both but problem is Bonfire or any simple removal. Most pros choose Healer

Dead Weight is cute but Oblivion Ring is hand down best removal. Abrupt Decay is fine and hope you have plenty of black in there

I would probably side Lingering Souls out against Bonfire. O-rings will definitely be in the sideboard if not maindeck.
Okay, here's a more updated list. I'm afraid that it's spread a little too thin on creatures though:

I've never played in a format with Shocks, so I might be running too many. I'm also not sure if Gavony and Vault will be worth it unless I add more creatures. Overall thoughts and criticisms would be much appreciated.

Edit: I'd like to get some GY hate in here too, as it seems reanimator will be a big thing. I'm just not sure what to run, or what to cut. I'm also considering replacing some of the removal spells with Sever the Bloodline.
I personally would remove some of the angels for Conjurer's Closet and all the Centaur Healers for Healer of the Pride, it just seems like it would work better that way. Course I always vouch for the closet over Cloudshift when there is the possibility for token swarm or health gain.

I think the last thing I need to do is reduce the number of creatures I'm running while replacing a creature that's good on its own with one that needs more creatures to be good. Conjurer's Closet with no creatures does nothing, at least Angel can win games, especially with a Rancor.
Put Lingering Souls in SB and bring Loxodon Smiter in main

I would bring 2-4 of Selesyna Charm in main. It is instant and is great block or quick creature like a flash. Easy block against Zombies

What is wrong with Call of Conclave? I know it is sorcery but nice Watchwolf body. I could bring 2 in

Couldn't hurt to lose a Thragtusk for a Wurm ;)
Closet plus Thragtusk or Wurm while you have a healer of the pride out means that each turn you get an additional creature and four health each turn, the more healer of the pride you have out the more health you gain each turn which leads to them having to deal massive amounts of damage each turn to attempt to keep your health low/normal. In a selesnya themed token spawn deck I managed to get 111 health before I got bored and ended the game by swarming with all the tokens I had produced.

I think switching Lingering Souls and Loxodon Smiter is a good idea. I'd like to bring in some Selesnya/Golgari Charms main, but I'm not sure what to cut for them.
I don't mean to incessantly bump my thread, but I keep making what I feel are improvements to my list, but I don't have anyone to test with, so I need the community's advice. Here is a list that I think is getting closer to playable:

...and 23 lands. Is that a good number? Would running all 8 shocks be too much? I'm also thinking of running a Vault of the Archangel and a Gavony Township, but I'm not sure. The best sideboard I can come up with (without having played any new Standard yet) is this:
[deck]
2* Appetite for Brains
2* Ultimate Price
2* Abrupt Decay
2* Golgari Charm
3* Oblivion Ring
4* Lingering Souls
[/deck]
It's basically all removal, plus Lingering Souls and the regenerate part of Golgari Charm. I don't know. I'm not really sure what to prepare for, in general or in my FLGS' meta.

Thoughts, anyone?
probably need another forest or 2 for the mana dorks

I was debating cutting the Isolated Chapel, doing so for a forest seems wise.

Orings over Visionaries seems solid. Maybe move two from the sideboard and replace them with... something? Another Centaur Healer? Cremate? More Grisly Salvage? Maybe even Sundering Growth? Honestly, Cremate seems like the most attractive choice, since I have no other GY hate.
is cremate better than purify the grave?

That's actually a question I asked myself when I was first thinking of this deck, but I never came up with an answer because I was focusing on the maindeck. It really hinges on Grisly Salvage, I guess. Maybe Purify would be better since I'm more likely to dump it in my graveyard with Salvage than to just draw it naturally. Also, playing Purify from my hand is sort of like playing Cremate from my hand, too, in that it gives me access to "another" card (flashback).

My biggest concerns are that sometimes I don't seem to draw enough lands, and sometimes I don't get black mana when I need it. I was considering adding Farseek despite cutting it previously, although I have no idea what to cut to make room for it. Some mix of Centaur Healer, Arbor Elf, and/or Dead Weight seems most likely.
I'm not crazy about this list.  You're a worse Jund Midrange.  You're a slower Selesnya aggro.  You're a less powerful Junk Reanimator.

I think the lists with Lingering Souls, walkers and Intangible Virtue are where you want to be right now.  They have the stupid, absolutely retarded resilience of Souls and token generating walkers, plus the ramp, plus the Thragtusks and whatever other topend you want to shoehorn in.

I don't see why on earth you would ever cut Farseek after having used it.  I was eyeballing it all askance and grody-like for Jund, but then I tried it, and I cast a turn 3 Huntmaster, and I was like.. oh, interesting.  Core card.
