No love eh? Well it's cool. Dropping 2 crypt creeper (not worried bout snapped leaks anymore like b4) and slitherhead freeing up 4 slots. Most likely 4x rakdos cackler. Or like 3 cackler and 1 more dreadbore or decay
I have the habit of considering that if nobody answers my thread, it's that they can't find a fault in my list :-p

Yeah... Until next game, where it'll be right back. Seriously, there's no way to deal with Rancor in any format. It should be banned, except Gleemax is a lobbyist for the Rancor party, so that'll never happen.
You can't ban rancor, it just returns to your deck.

When talks about banning Jace first started, I was thinking that I would see him banned come June 20th. But as I think more about it, I don't really think that Jace is the problem anymore. Sure his power level leaves very little to the imagination (opening Jace is like opening a refrigerator box with a naked girl on the inside), and sure his price does have a strong impact on what players choose to play (playing Jace is like being intimate with a woman and she doesn't charge you in the morning), but it is not the source of all the problems in Standard.

How do people think saving room to print more abilities on cards is dumbing down the game?

Do you really think, say, Akroma would ever be printed if she said, "Akroma can block by creatures with this ability and cannot be blocked by creatures without this ability.  If a creature without this ability would deal combat damage by Akroma would be destroyed, prevent all combat damage that creature would deal to Akroma this combat.  Attacking does not cause Akroma to tap.  If Akroma is blocked and deals lethal damage, it deals the remainder of its damage to the defending player.  Akroma may attack and use abilities that require tapping in the casting cost the turn it enters the battlefield.  Akroma cannot be damaged, enchanted, equipped, blocked or targeted by black or red sources" rather than her "dumbed down" wording she has?  No freaking way.  Keywording and shorthand allows them to make complicated cards easy to play with, allowing them to be printed in the first place.

1. cast frankie peanuts2. ask opponent "will you concede the game this turn"? if they say yes, you win; if they say no, play a staying power
3. subsequently ask "will you attack this turn"? and "will you cast a spell this turn"? (using a Teferi, Mage of Zhalfir for the second question if necessary) to ensure they can't disrupt the combo
4. donate them a platinum angel
5. play a mox lotus and braingeyser them for every card in their library. play an opalescence and donate them a glorious anthem and a blacker lotus, then play enchanted evening. play and activate a mindslaver and then donate them a fastbond and the mox lotus (returning one of the donates to your hand with eternal witness or whatever)
6. during their turn, play every permanent in their hand (playing lands with fastbond) then (as yourself) cast mirrorweave on the blacker lotus, so every permanent becomes a copy of it. proceed to tear up every card they control, and hopefully do it before they notice that they aren't bound by staying power's ability anymore and can concede

I've netdecked plenty of decks from the Casual Play forums from users such as Mown, Raedien, Floopfoot, and a few others. I snatched straight the heck out of my web browser. Yes, people, your original idea fell victim to a savage netdecker. You have been assimiliated. Suppose I wanted a Zombie deck. Why on earth would I spend time searching Gatherer for a decent list of Zombie cards when Raedien already did it for me? Taking time to be creative or waiting on people on the forums to tell you why your deck sucks or 'go to Casual forums' is a disasterous waste of time (to me).

No, they just spam them with ban requests. That being said, Magic was ruined back in Alpha when they added all that rules and cards [Debutantes avert your eyes]. Also decks have no color identity. -Starting life total is 20. And voila, now things are balanced.

Within that lies the middle layer, consisting of the familiar booster pack. Although solid, the booster packs' high temperatures allow them to acutally move around within the booster box. This flow, sometimes called convection, is cited by frustrated box mappers as one of WOTC's most genious uses of thermodynamics since the Ravnica block. No one knows what lies at the core of the booster box, but scientists theorize that it must be especially dense in order to make up for the large amount of fluff distributed amongst the booster packs.

He proceeds to wring his hands and twirl his evil mustache that he grew for twirling purposes as a lightning bolt strikes in the background. Afterwards, he goes to make sure that the good cards are only opened by everyone's friends, and that we all only get to open bad cards. He does this by memorising each booster, than switching them around accordingly. Whenever someone complains about a card, he immediately jumps out from behind a chair to yell "WELL, IT'S NOT FOR YOU!" before merging back into the shadows in order to devise new ways in which he can screw over players, then claim that he has valid reasons for doing so.

I'm only opposed to it because it bears so little relation to how people actually play the game. The example of Miracles is actually a much better one then the Clone example I was trying to use. From the game's perspective, the card can move instantly from face down in the library to revealed in the hand and that's fine for the rules. But in real life, we can't actually do that, so the card spends a good bit of time in locations that are neither where that player's library is nor where that player's hand is. And that's fine for real life. What I don't want is the disconnect to be explicitly codified. Along the lines of

If you don't talk to anyone, that increases the odds that no one will talk to you.

JuliusPringle wrote:

Yeah. Talk to the cashier. Tell him/her that you want a Black Lotus, and if they don't have one tell them that the store isn't on par with what you expected.

Reach into your back left pocket. Pull out a deck list that you copied directly from some ChannelFireball top 8 Standard discussion, and ask for all the cards, as is, on that list. Then, ask for some random, probably terrible cards from whatever set is Standard legal. Say it's tech for the upcoming changes in the metagame.

Pull out a deck, and tell some random dude you wanna test (you have to use the term "test" for this to work) for Standard. Make sure that deck contains Kitchen Finks and Alluring Siren. Maybe throw in Nyxathid for good measure.

Finally, before you leave, spill (make it look like an accident) one hundred singleton, random cards onto the floor. Pick them up, put them in a pile, and say "EEE-DEE-AYCH".

I know this sounds dumb at first, but it will work. With the method outlined above, you will draw the attention of players that play older formats by asking for cards that no one on Earth can reasonably afford. You will get the attention of the wanna-be pro, Stomp-n00bz players by pulling out a well known decklist and declare that you have "tech" to make it better. You will get the attention of all the kind, helpful players by seemingly not knowing the most common format by having non-Standard legal cards in a deck that you claim is Standard legal. Finally, you catch all the rest of the Magic players by saying "EEE-DEE-AYCH" (EDH (or Commander)).

And there you have it. You will be talking to more people than you would have wanted to talk to in no time.

3. subsequently ask "will you attack this turn"? and "will you cast a spell this turn"?

No, they just spam them with ban requests. That being said, Magic was ruined back in Alpha when they added all that rules and cards [Debutantes avert your eyes].

But in real life, we can't actually do that, so the card spends a good bit of time in locations that are neither where that player's library is nor where that player's hand is. And that's fine for real life. What I don't want is the disconnect to be explicitly codified. Along the lines of

I am not sure about Blood Artist and Killing Wave.  Both might be dead in the water. Plenty of cards to gain life

There some cards to look on

Dreg Mangler
Lothleth Troll
Rakdos Cackler
Rakdos Shred Freak

I would want 4 of Tragic Slip

Couple of Sign in Blood is not bad in there

No Cavern of Souls?
I considered him, but I doubt I'll ever get to 5 mana, and I want my 1 drop slot more secured. I might try him out tho!

What about having like 3 cackler and another reach card? Not another bonfire, but something? Prefer like player or critter, but rakdos return could suffice

I know this is not full Zombies. Can Rakdos join? ;)

Unsure about Golgari Charm...SB material?
Cavern seems underwhelming to me now that most countermagic is nerfed. Had a huge discussion already on why lol troll is for Jund mid range not aggro (mana/critter investment just isn't worth it. Basically it's a mana trap for regen and only good with crawlers). Artist/wave package just still gets there and helps you close that much better. A lot of people thought u needed mortarpod to play artist. I never did, always using the artist to force either no blocks/bad blocks and basically threaten what i could do. hittin wave is still GG with him, and it runs roughshod over tokens/populate. Need the life too to fight off thraggy Tempo breaks. Charm is DEF good sb tech, as is the dryad and a bunch of other obvious tech. SiB could have use? I'm actually testing grim backwoods for late game redraw with crawlers if I have mana to sink. Otherwise I'm ok in topdeck mode. Brimstone volley I like a lot here (tho your lack of aristocrat is scary bear! I mean u hit rancor on him? Lol GG). While I'm ok running 1 morbid card for finishing damage, having 4 slips with no mPod seems less than ideal. (Different argument here for use of pod than before with artist).

As for your list, topping out at 3 I'd go 20 land, maybe 21 and roll 2 more smashers

Keep it comingggg
Here's a list I've come up with recently, but haven't had a chance to do any new-Standard testing.  It's not so much Zombies (though there are a lot), just all around hasty aggro.

I'm a little worried about the mana base, but I think it's functional.  Strangleroot into Messenger is really hard, but I don't think it will hurt me too hard, I'll be able to play some other stuff until I get the right mana.

Faithless Looting or Sign in Blood would be nice to get some kind of draw in here, I would have to test before I know what to drop.

I've considered Hellrider, Blood Artist, and Zealous Conscripts as possible sideboard against people who can stabilize late.  Duress and Golgari Charm as anti-board wipes and enchantment hate, Archwing Dragon also anti-board wipe.  Bonfire against other aggro, Deathrite Shaman against Reanimator or Snapcaster decks.

So you're playing green without the best green zombie? And you've got a nice grizly bear and a 1/1 thrown in as well?

Also, you need to max out your manabase, 21 lands is not the right number, a lot of zombie lists are runnign 24-25 now since you need to hit vampire, and you want to be able to cast thragtusk, which has to be in the deck in some amount in the 75.(potentially 1 in the MD at least). Also Cavern is very good fixing for this deck.

Killing wave seems poor, since it doesn't have a great deal of synergy, if you want a card to wipe their board, use flames of the firebrand(arc lightning) and get that value. Bonfire in this list seems less than amazing, a lot of people are dropping bonfire frmo zombies thesedays.

The threat to zombies decks is resto angel-tusk. You need a plan to beat this combination. Vasmpire helps, but you need some ways to actually remove a threat, killing a tusk in response to blinking is very crucial, and you have on esorcery speed removal spell that can actually hit them.

Thrag is great. But 5 mana? No way I'm going to 24 land to get to him. The slow and steady life off artist is fine, and still combo well with wave. Artist+wave=gnarly play still. Idk why ppl think this was only good with mPod! I rsn it and worked great.
And what grizzly bear/ 1/1? Oh u mean creeper and slithead? Already removed and explained why. As far as land, I could go to the 4th shock, but I really only need access to 1 r or 1 g at a time, but no harm in going up. I've also been running 21 land quite well myself for a hot minute. Don't mind waiting a turn if need be to get to 4. Admittedly this was cuz I was happy to chain messengers with metamorphs...maybe I should go higher. I shall test and get back to you.

I'm also not scared of thrag or resto. They will most likely get both out in one match, sure. That's a 10 life buffer. This is not scary at all. I'm bringing sooo much more power back at them. I can chump/kill thrag/thrag junior all day. Resto will die in combat to aristocrat. It's just not that serious as everyone is saying. Thrag is great in pod lists tho, or in Jund control/mid range, which this list is not.

Why no love for bonfire? Perfect one of IMO, goes well with artist too. Not sure why you would drop it.

I have been troubled by the lack of instant speed removal (sans AD). But I think it may be ok. Here's why. I'm racing so hard and fast, I need to mainly deal with the early threats that are 3 and under. Once I hit my 4 drop I'm good to go, and can now deal with their 4+drops on my own. If this turns out flawed, Dbore may become something else, perhaps ultimate price if resto/thrag really do get that bad.

Thx for the help folks. Def good ideas swinging.
? What do we do about GoST? No more verdict. Can't just run a bunch of bonfire...can we? No. Didn't think so. Soo..options?
You're missing the number 1 reason to play Jund zombies. Lotleth Troll, four please.

Rancor is actually weak for you here. None of your creatures are likely to survive a block anyway.

Killing Wave is just bad, Bonfire or Rakdos Revival is better.
By the way, Geist isn't important against this deck because blockers. Liliana of the Veil, if you must.

To be fair, that'skinda the point with Rancor, it keeps coming back.

And btw, what's Rakdos revival?
Rakdos return is XBR:target player discards X and loses X life.

Rancor is amazing here. Everything comes back, as does rancor. I care not if the critter dies. Crawler, messenger, whatever. Ghoul dies so what, at least I punched in damage, activated artist 2 times, and got rancor back to maybe throw on aristocrat. Rancor weak? U r a krazy kid yo, lol.

For the zillionth time, I'm saying this: lol troll is lost in high aggro builds. It's a midrange card in a self mill deck at best.

Ok it's T2. I have the mana, but no crawler to drop. How does this 1/1 help me? I dropped my crawler T1. I have nothing to pitch. So I wasted my t2 dropping a 1 power durdler. Lol troll is a TRAP! I wish I could link the pic of Admiral Ackbar saying that!

Forgot about Lilly, lol. Sb? Don't really want her MD I don't think. Any other options? I prob don't need specific hate for GoST. Love me some slaughter games tho! Call out terminus and entreat! GG baby!

Troll is a big trap, in a deck that has a curve like zombies, it literally makes your deck worse for having it. It's often a two mana 2/1 who's regen means you stop curving out properly. Awful, I've gon eover this with a lot of people to explain this already.

THIS!!!!

all day. Mr. Cyrus, you sir, have my respect for this.

though ATM still waiting to here why I should play thrag in my list, lol.
A 2/1 trample for two, with synergy with Gravecrawler is better than any other Zombie two drop. You misplaying its regen is a failure of you, not the card
If you're not running troll, you shouldn't be in green
Yes, good synergy with 1 card. A card I want to cast on turn 1 and won't see again for awhile statically speaking. So I hit troll. He durdles as a 2/1 for a few turns, I hit another crawler, yay! Now he is a 3/2....

NEXT!
And rancor is reason enough, and AD gives me so many nice early outs
Rancor is overrated in decks like this. You win by swarm, not a big guy who is liable to chumping. Most of the time, whatever your Rancoring won't survive the attack, so its really just an inefficient use of mana.

There is no reason whatsoever to exclude Troll from this deck, short of money shortage.
Not knocking Decay either, but its not worth stretching a manabase for by itself when you have lots of in colour removal like Dreadbore etc., and few ifany relevant artifacts or Enchantments that you'll be using it on.

It doesn't stretch the manabase to run green, you have 12 green and 12 red sources in the deck, along with 24 black ones, seems fine. In fact, you have more red and more green sources than a current BR zombies has red sources.

Ok, to explain troll.

He only has synergy with 4 cards in your 60 card deck. And often, you want to make that card on turn one if you can. There are 12 playable one drop guys(cackler ins't great, but is playable), all of which have the same power as the troll for half the price. Zombies has a curve, sure it doesn't have the greatest two drops, but that doesn't mean you should run a card that is about as good as your one drops, just because it's a two drop. 90% of the time at least, dropping a second one drop on turn 2 with a CIPT land will be the same as a troll. If you make the troll in a deck that wants to be using all it's mana efficiently every turn, then you never get to regen, or you have to hold open regen in case etc. This gives the opponent the ability to outplay you, since you have to make a decision, which the opponent will be able to turn into the wrong one very easily. You know what other deck didn't really have a good two drop a while? Delver. Don't play bad cards just because you think you should be playing something in that slot.

So most of the time, he's a gravecrawler that costs twice the price(and is harder to cast), that gains the ability to block in your aggro deck(big woop), and the regen ability is virtually never relevant. Sure, he's a better topdeck that Diregraf in the late game, but I don't think the deck wants another low impact 2 power guy. Also, Tragic Slip is going to see a lot of play since the Doom blade variant is less than stellar.

Reason to run Green: Dreg Mangler, Abrupt Decay, Thragtusk, Rancor. Potentially Rancor can be good in some situations, I don't want to be running four of them, but they effectively do exactly what the Troll does, but with haste, and it comes back for free. Since we don't have a sac engine etc, it gives us a new pseudo sac engine where you stick it on a crawler and hurl him, either way they're taking damage, and the guy is big enough to eat through a tusk or an angel, and lets you avoid chump blocks as well.

Exactly. Troll is for midrange builds at most.

As for rancor, I like the 4 of, means I will see at least 1, and I'm cool with multiples. It's all about punching through damage and setting up bad blocks for the opponent. I suppose giant growth would suffice on an unblocked guy, but I prefer rancor.

And AD is perfect at what it's for-getting rid of the early threats. Like o/super o ring, and other minor dudes without worrying about morbid for slip.
I'm perfectly okay going Ghoul/Crawler, Troll/Artist, Troll/Artist regen mana up. I hope for my sake that Cyrus's assessment catches on in the secondary market, though, until I trade for a set. Dreg Mangler is a 3-/4-of, same with Rancor. Trample and haste are both super relevant. Linking Lotleth Troll to read.
Edit: Ha, yeah, wow. Don't even need regen mana up early on, just pitch Crawlers/Manglers to get you over the early regen threshold.
Edit2: AND IT HAS TRAMPLE!? CHRIST!
Edit3: And then later on, scavenge Mangler onto The Aristocrats.
Edit4: Then Rancor on Aristocrat. And this isn't even the domain of Magical Christmas Land.

You want to pitch manglers to keep your troll alive? So you pitch it instead of using it as a recurring bolt to the face? If your board is crawler, troll, troll by the end of turn 3, how do you intend to beat the GW decks? You need a lot of punch and speed, zombies is good because it has 8 powerful cards to drop on turn 3.

The fact you have to pitch gas to the troll is why he's bad. If you make it turn two, and someone shocks him or whatever, if you pitch cards you basically lose that game unless you've got the mental 4 gravecrawler opener.

The only time Troll is good is in the late game, where crappy zombies get pitched to him. However, GW decks have a much better lategame thanks to tusk and angel, so you're not going to outclass them. Then you have the fact that Troll BECOMES another bad top deck. You've basically made a drudge skeletons if you cast this guy in the mid-late game.

Sure, run him in modern with crawler, ghast, vengevine and potentially even squee, but in standard, he's not giving you much. Sign In blood is a better two drop.

Also, the two drop slot is when you want to interact, so you can curve out with 3 and 4 ideally, since 3 drop zombie into aristocrat is the best way to win the game.

Indigo and beast vs me and Cyrus...fight

Lol but seriously, troll is not good at all. Mangler I'm reconsidering because I forgot about scavenge only aristocrat. But I don't think I want 4. I only have 4 slots I'm working with, so I think I may go 2 cackler/ 2 mangler. Gives me 10 one drops and 6 three drops? Unsure about this tho
troll is not good at all in this build

Fixed. Troll looks amazing on paper, and he IS pretty darn good. The issue is, he is far from ideal in an aggro build. There are currently 2 cards that you want to pitch to him: Gravecrawler and Slitherhead and the latter is nigh useless without the presence of the troll. He would just be better later game, when you're topdecking Diregraf ghouls, but as it is troll is not a great card here.

And indigo, I don't mean to be combative, it it almost seems as though you're ignoring everything that Rancor does apart from the +2/+0. I mean, yes, they will likely be chumped, but how often is it that that particular creature would not have been chumped anyway? At least now it has trample. And yes, a lack of toughness bonus means they will die a lot, but in that case, rancor just comes back to your hand, so honestly, I don't see the issue.
And helps activate mi artista!! Si si señor!

Love what rancor adds to artist. Artist does his job whether or not he is actually doing his job so to speak. He sets up bad block situations where life is lost either way. It's the classic damned if you do damned if you don't. Go ahead and waste removal on him. No matter to me. Love what green adds here.
and Slitherhead and the latter is nigh useless without the presence of the troll.

Not in  the presence of rancor, though. But on its  own it does basically nothing.

Some real Kavu Titaning going on here.
Kavu Titan? I'm not trying to pay absurd costs for power/trample
I wasn't even a little competitive back then, but didn't Kavu Titan see some play, before the bar for creatures was astronomically high?

I'm not saying that pitching Dregman to Trololol is the right play every time, or even in a vacuum, but I can see myself doing it frequently in certain matchups/situations, and it's not a bad use for it, owing largely to its compostability. Other reason I like the Troll is aggressive regenerating 2-drop.

Tried drafting a Zombie deck in bio lecture the other day, there's too many fantastic goodies to choose from (obviously ignoring a reasonable budget).

Aggressive Money.dec

A surprising relative lack of mythics in this list, and the Rav2 rares should tank in two months due to vast quantities of product being torn open at literally all hours of the day.
Truth on the reduced prices. I only need 1 more aristocrat and the abrupt decay and my list is finished as is. Got the land from last go around. Oh need manglers and cacklers too, but those are pennies.

Still not sold on the troll. But I will playtest with it. Right now I have 4 slots that I'm not 100% on. As is now its a 2/2 split cackler/mangler. Doesn't feel quite right tho.
Updated list. Lol troll didn't pan out. Never wanted to pitch anything cept crawler and it was just slowing me down.

Decided to not play cackler. Great 1 drop, yeah, but deathrite shaman is just so much better tech, and needs to be maindeck. I always want to see him, but I don't have room for a set, running 2 happily right now. Also found bonfire...lacking. I just don't have enough land to make it powerful enough. So instead, I'm trying revenge of the hunted! Haha it sounds funny, but it makes bonkers plays. Yeah u can remove the target, sure. But you can counter bonfire. So I'm tryin it out!

New list as it stands:
4x gravecrawler
4x diregraf ghoul
2x deathrite shaman
4x blood artist
4x geralf's messenger
2x dreg mangler
4x falkenrath aristocrat

4x rancor
4x pillar of flame
2x killing wave
3x abrupt decay
2x revenge of the hunted

4x blood crypt
4x overgrown tomb
4x dragonskull summit
4x woodland cemetery
1x kessig wolf run
1x grim backwoods
3x swamp

Sb
4x appetite for brains
4x vile rebirth
1x deathrite shaman
3x annhilating fire
3x sever the bloodline

Sb is obvious subject to change, but I thought it gives me a good place to start. May drop to 1 revenge and go up to a brimstone volley. Prob better to have the reach...but revenge is just so darn tasty!
I don't think of Lotleth Troll as a midrange card. With cheap, chuckable Zombies you can get a lot of value out of your two-drop.

Turn 1: Gravecrawler (or just hold it to feed the troll if you don't have a handful of them.. I know it's not ideal but it won't hurt you much overall)
Turn 2: Lotleth Troll.
Turn 3: Chuck 2 Zombies (Slitherhead or Gravecrawler ideally), Ghoulcaller's Chant, chuck them again, Scavenge or Cast from Graveyard.

If you have a pair of Slitherheads and chuck them twice and then Scavenge them to the troll, you're swinging with an 8/7 trampler on turn 3. Oh, and he regenerates. And you'd have the mana to do so.

You'd kind of have to build a deck to work around him, but he's vicious. Don't underestimate this guy combined with Scavenge effects.
I totally agree with what your saying about the troll, but the key there is building aground him. I'm trying to be as aggressive as possible, so I don't want to be playing any GY shenanigans. But in the right deck, yeah, it could rock.

The more I test this, the more I love revenge over bonfire. It just pays out more for me.
