Untap attacking creature?

I have [C]Niblis of the Breath[/C] on the battlefield. My opponent attacks with one creature. I know that you tap to attack with a creature but can you use [C]Niblis of the Breath[/C]'s activated ability to "untap" it to prevent it from attacking and doing damage?
Tapping or untapping an attacking or blocking creature does nothing. YOu have to tap the creature before it is decalred an attacker to prevent it from attacking.
… and then, the squirrels came.
Thank you very much for the clarification.  And thanks for the quick reply!
Tapping or untapping an attacking or blocking creature does nothing.

It doesnt remove it from combat and doesnt prevent it dealing combat damage, but I wouldnt say it does "nothing" (tapping an untapped attacking creature causes it to become tapped, and untapping a tapped attacking creature causes it to become untapped).

That makes no sense to me. If they spelled the ability out on the card in full then it would not be allowed in a mono-black Commander deck, but because they used a keyword to save space it is allowed? ~ Tim
Yup, just like you can have Birds of paradise in a mono green deck but not Noble Hierarch. YAY COLOR IDENTITY

You want to make a milky drink. You squeeze a cow.
I love this description. Like the cows are sponges filled with milk. I can see it all Nick Parks claymation-style with the cow's eyes bugging out momentarily as a giant farmer squeezes it like a squeaky dog toy, and milk shoots out of it.
