Why do they have to print all of the dual lands at rare? I really love this game, but I'd like to have a decent shot at winning an FNM without needing to pay $10 a pop for lands. Seriously. I just want to make a moderately powerful, budget-friendly, two-color deck without needing to sacrifice either consistency in my mana base or a large quantity of money. For comparison purposes, the most expensive spell in my planned deck would literally cost $1. And I'll bet that I'm not the only one here that feels that duals should be easier to get. Who's with me?

The zendikar ones are .50 cents on amazon.
i mean... welcome to competitive magic.  cost number one for decks is usually always the mana.

just be grateful they aren't $20+ like the originals (because of mythic rarity)

Lands that produce multiple colors are rares for multiple reasons that you would either not understand or not care about. RtR will have uncommon lands that produce 2 colors, use those, or bite the bullet.

You're just going to have to spring for the lands if you want consistency in a truly competitive environment. It's something that has always been true, and it's probably not going to change. If you are looking for alternatives, there are many, but they aren't rare because they simply aren't good enough to be. You've got options ranging from Boreal Shelf to Hallowed Fountain, but what you pay for is what you get.

You're missing it because *turns Storm Crows sideways* all your base are belong to Chuck Norris and every other overused meme ever.
There is always the guild gates... They arent as good as the other duels but those along side the core set duals arent very expensive... theres always a way to make it work... dont just complain about it
Yeah, this was mostly just an angry rant. I'm not ignorant, just thrifty. And yes, I'm just going to end up using the guildgates and Evolving Wilds anyway. I was just curious to see if anyone else wanted to complain about it, sheesh.

Rarity wasn't removed from the game altogether because of the need for it in limited formats (y'know, where Wizards sells most of it's product.) In limited, getting to fix your mana like a constructed deck would make limited about getting the best options to avoid mana screw (since that would be playing the odds) instead of using the set's exciting spells and mechanics. You just gotta nut up and draft, trade for, or buy your lands. Some of the best trades happen with lands being a better currency than money :P

If all the other cards in your deck cost a dollar or less, why not drop 40 or 50 bucks on some duals? Shocklands will be useable in Standard for the next 2 years, and in Modern forever, so they should retain value. Also, the Core Set duals that just got reprinted for the fourth time are pretty cheap, although if you're playing enemy colors, they are a little more expensive (the Innistrad duals).
If all cards were easy to get do you think they would sell as much product?

If the game was made purely for constructed play, there would be no rarity, which would make EVERYTHING harder to obtain, and increase the number of packs broken to search for individual cards. The rarity system as it exists makes a few cards harder to obtain out of popularity at the crossroads with rarity. But without tiered rarity, finding those Snapcaster Mages would be even harder.

My post wasn't saying make everything common. So, nice try.

Luls at giving text voice that doesn't exist. I didn't make any claim about your argument, just made a point about the rarity system not existing for the sake of pushing more product onto the constructed-only audience.

Rarity only exists to drive sales.

Oh, duh, I can just resell the duals later what I no longer need them! For about the same price!

Open packs and trade. Wont be hard at all to get playsets. This set is so flooded with good rares that singles are going to be selling for around 5-7 including the lands. If not then anyone will be able to make money opening packs. There are no chase rares if they are all chase rares. (Yes there are a few terrible exceptions)

This is why I'm playing in all 3 prereleases and buying a case immediately. The hyper-inflated prices will make it a joke to make a good chunk of change while still getting the stuff I actually want.

My LGS isn't at that level yet (new store), so we only get 3. Otherwise I WOULD play in all 5-6.
