  • Assigning damage order will be removed. (I have no reason why this step even exists)

  • 2nd Main Phase will be removed.

  • Hand renamed to "Brain" (since the deck is your "Library" and drawing cards represents gaining knowledge)

Your turn.
Assigning damage order will be removed. (I have no reason why this step even exists)

it exists so that you know which blocker has to get Giant Growth

Are you looking for things that I think actually will happen, or things that I think should happen? Because those are two very different lists.

  • Milling will be keyworded. Perhaps not as "milling", but as something.

  • Maximum hand size will be removed.

It might not be within the next ten years, but I strongly feel that these two will happen at some point.

Come join me at No Goblins Allowed

Because frankly, being here depresses me these days.

  • 2nd Main Phase will be removed.

That would be extremely dumb. Takes a way a lot of the depth of combat and timing stuff.

Milling will be keyworded. Perhaps not as "milling", but as something.

I'm still waiting for this. Mill-centered block, wotc. DO EET.

Renaming the "hand" would be even stupider than renaming "play" into "battlefield", and "brain" just sounds wrong if they did rename it.

I expect to see milling as a central theme in a block sometime in the future.
very good ideas so far

Oh, I got one:

  • "Counter target spell" will be retconned to "Destroy target spell".

and this next  one is obvious, but:

  • The exact order of players' graveyards no longer needs to be maintained, you are able to reorder it however you want, whenever you want.

By all means post both.
  • Milling will be keyworded. Perhaps not as "milling", but as something.

it's funny that "mill" is a keyword in other games, with no Millstone :D

The planeswalker redirection rule will be removed, once a reasonable number of cards that explicitly mention Planeswalkers exist (which is already starting to happen).

Oh come, destroy target spell is a good idea and you know it.
It would make more sense that an uncounterable spell can be exiled. (just as an indestructible creature can be exiled)

For that matter, in the future we would have indestructible spells.
Last Word would be errata'd to say.
"Last Word is indestructible. (destroy effects can't destroy it)
Counter target spell."

We could also have instant/sorceries with shroud (can't be Twincast'ed or destroyed) or hexproof. (you can Twincast it, but not opponent)

problem?

  • The exact order of players' graveyards no longer needs to be maintained, you are able to reorder it however you want, whenever you want.

This one seems plausible. Graveyard order should be done away with and probably will be.
[*]Maximum hand size will be removed.[/list]

But then we'll never be graced with a card that said "You have no maximum brain size"

The exact order of players' graveyards no longer needs to be maintained, you are able to reorder it however you want, whenever you want.

that's already the case except in Legacy/Vintage/Commander

The no max hand size idea is very neat, but there are a number of cards that affect hand size, and the rule change would make those cards do nothing.
Even the mana burn rule didn't go that far, and the Wish cycle still works I think even after RFG'ed was renamed to Exiled.

Gnat Miser and Locust Miser would be vanilla creatures.. but I guess that doesn't matter.
Thought Devourer would have no drawback.. but that's actually if anything a reason the rule change is a good thing.

I guess the only instance it'd really be weird is Reliquary Tower. It's one thing to have a vanilla creature (which are normal) but a colorless producing land that does nothing?
Oh and Spellbook

The cool thing about having no max hand size is that it emphasizes to newer players the intrinsic value of card advantage.

Oh and Spellbook is not a big deal, there is Darksteel Relic, it's basically a future Spellbook, just indestructible.

edit: Spellbook was last printed in Magic 2010 but hasn't been printed in the core set since then... so if that's not a sign that maximum hand size is going away, I don't know what is.

Yes, there's a problem. These changes would mean Stuffy Doll, Invisible Stalker and Neurok Commando are all uncounterable.

I miss the old days.
Maybe they'll bring damage on the stack back once all of the new players learn the rules better.

  • Failure-to-draw will probably be eliminated as a lose-condition.

  • Another attempt will be made to simplify Banding, but not until someone decides to resurrect the mechanic as a block-gimmick.

  • "You may"/"If you do" triggered effects will be cleaned up.

  • A slight tweak to attach rules will be implemented to allow a card to be both an Equipment and a Fortification, and still actually function.

Here are some things that make little to no sense to new players I teach:
 - Basic lands tap for mana.
 - The ability ": Add to your mana pool." does not allow you to put a Forest into play.
These two are linked. I think at some point basic lands should stop having just the mana symbol and go to having reminder text for their mana ability. In fact, when Coldsnap came out a lot of people in my local thought that Dark Depths taps for a snow mana.

 - Summoning Sickness
I don't think it should go away. I'm just saying its one of those rules that you'd never assume exists.

One thing that needs to change is the overuse of keywords. We'll cross 100 in the upcoming block. Dozens of pages of the comprules are used just to define them all. Section 702 is so bloated I'd rather have a seperate document from the comprules that defines the non-evergreen keywords. That cuts us down to only 18 keywords in the comprules.
Level 2 Magic Judge Lite a man a fire, warm him for a day. Light a man on fire, warm him for the rest of his life.

It's not too much of a stretch to foresee the concept of "mana pool" being eliminated.
Even though this hasn't been mentioned, I fully expect this change within the next 2 or 3 years:

- Each player gets 1 free mulligan to 7.

They already have this for multiplayer anyway, so bringing it to duels doesn't seem so crazy. I already use this as a house rule for casual, and so do many others. There would still be some risk involved in mulliganing, but it would lower overall negative feelings. Seems like a good idea.
The only change I want to see is a change to the mulligan rule. I think it makes games way to sacky.
Not being able to play lands on other turns. Flashy dryad arbor thanks to teferi coming up.

Failure to draw is a loss condition because it helps ensure the game ends.  That's not to say there aren't cards that get around it, but while it's possible to gain arbitrarily large amounts of life, it's not possible to put arbitrarily many cards into your library.

Attach rules could use some cleaning up.  They probably will if they ever make another attach effect.

Plus, it nerfs bloodthirst, which doesn't even really need to be nerfed.

I thought it had been for Standard and Modern? They'd need to ban death spark before expanding it.

I forsee the draw step to disappear. The End step could also streamlined.

Then put the message you want inside the tags, like you would do with autocarding. Oh, it's a brilliant plan. You see, Bolas was travelling through shadowmoor, causing trouble, when he saw a Wickerbough Elder with its stylin' dead scarecrow hat. Now, Bolas being Bolas took the awesome hat and he put it on his head, but even with all his titanic powers of magic he couldn't make it fit. He grabbed some more scarecrows, but then a little kithkin girl asked if he was trying to build a toupee. "BY ALL THE POWERS IN THE MULTIVERSE!" he roared, "I WILL HAVE A HAT WORTHY OF MY GLORY." and so he went through his Dark Lore of Doom (tm) looking for something he could make into a hat that would look as stylish on him as a scarecrow does on a treefolk. He thought about the Phyrexians, but they were covered in goopy oil that would make his nonexistant hair greasy. He Tried out angels for a while but they didn't sit quite right. Then, he looked under "e" (because in the Elder Draconic alphabet, "e" for Eldrazi is right next to "h" for Hat) in his Dark Lore of Doom and saw depictions of the Eldrazi, and all their forms. "THIS SHALL BE MY HAT!" he declared, poking a picture of Emrakul, "AND WITH IT I WILL USHER IN A NEW AGE OF DARKNESS -- ER, I MEAN A NEW AGE OF FASHION!" And so Nicol Bolas masterminded the release of the Eldrazi.
