Corellon's Boon of Arcane Might - vs - Character Builder

I can't get this thing to work right, as far as I can tell. Please help me out with what I'm supposed to have, so I can pencil it in on a separate sheet.

I received the lv. 8 version of the boon, and selected "Echoing Dirge" for my encounter (Warlock-1) and CB put it on my sheet as an encounter. And that worked fine.

My character just hit 10, and "Echoing Dirge" disappeared. I selected "Jinx Shot" (Bard-1) for the encounter, but CB is adding it as an at-will for me, instead of an encounter.

It's just a printing error on CB's part, correct, and JS will be an encounter power?

        D&D 4e players are pretty much by definition the players who didn't mind, and often embraced, D&D being "different".  That willingness to embrace the different might also mean they are less attached to 4e itself, and are willing to go elsewhere.

    There are so many tiny indie games that if you added them all together they would definitely rival Pathfinder.   If there were a dominant game for those people it would do better but there is no dominant game.  Until 4e, the indie people were ignored by the makers of D&D.

 

Yep. 4E was embraced by the 'system matters' crowd who love analyzing and innovating systems. That crowd had turned its back on D&D as a clunky anachronism. But with 4E, their design values were embraced and validated. 4E was D&D for system-wonks. And with support for 4E pulled, the system-wonks have moved on to other systems. The tropes and traditions of D&D never had much appeal for them anyway. Now there are other systems to learn and study. It's like boardgamegeeks - always a new system on the horizon. Why play an ancient games that's seven years old?

 

Of course, not all people who play and enjoy 4E fit that mould. I'm running a 4E campaign right now, and my long-time D&D players are enjoying it fine. But with the system-wonks decamping, the 4E players-base lost the wind in its sails.

Yeah, the offline character builder has that problem too, I believe.  Once you hit level 11, it'll straighten itself out again.

One more rules question about the Boon, please.

Choose a x-level encounter power from an arcane class. You can use that power once before the end of the encounter."


Any time during an encounter, I can pick ~any~ arcane power up to the level appropriate to my boon. And I have until the end of the encounter to use it. As in, it doesn't have to be decided when I select the boon, correct?

Just ... MacGyver an arcane solution out of a pocketknife implement, depending on the situation, once/day?

That is correct.  Depending on your setup, you might have only one choice that works, though.

Also, it's not "up to" that level.  It *is* that level.  So, if you have the level 18 version of the boon, you pick a level 17 arcane encounter power to be used as a daily.

My Avenger got this boon and picked up Aegis of Assault as his at-will pick and took    
Surprising Transposition as the encounter-as-daily power.  (Both Swordmage powers, I might add) which is nice since he MC'd Swordmage and power swapped for the level 22 Oni's Gift utility power. 
Also, it's not "up to" that level.  It *is* that level.  So, if you have the level 18 version of the boon, you pick a level 17 arcane encounter power to be used as a daily.

I think this is a Compendium error.  The original text in DMG2 says "up to" the specified level, and I don't see any changes in the compiled updates.
