Well Green seemed such a good coice with 2 4/4 Reach/Vigil spiders, especiall when you add Rancor and 2 Force Mages.  Only put in 1 spell twine as I probably won't need it.

I just couldn't stop myself. This may be the most stupid build on this thread, but I stand by it.
3x Harbor Serpent seems just too good to pass up.
What does a Harbor Serpent want? Islands.
How can I make sure I have enough Islands in play?!?
Mono-Blue. If you happened to think blue was your strength also, even better.
I checked it out, and kinda liked what I saw, so here it is.

Autocarding
Please Please Please Autocard/// / / / [c]Protean Hydra[/c] => Protean Hydra / / / I can't read the cards you reference without it... / Well, ok, I CAN read the cards, but it involves opening Gatherer, looking your card up by name, hoping it's spelled right, and... I'm just too lazy to do it, alright? Please Autocard.
On second thought, Krenko's command might be better as a Cleaver Riot in this deck...
Not a very powerful pool. I would try RG, both boars and spiders might work along with rancor, ring or volcanic strenghts. Sure it is gamble but it is much better than betting on gorgon as your only chance if u play B.
I would also gamble and play 16 lands. Mana screw is a possibility but imo this risk had to be taken because there are no bombs and not enough removals or DD in this pool. With a good opening this may beat even better decks.

I decided for a Esper-type build, with Exalted support. Having 2 Spelltwines and a Xathrid Gorgon seemed like an amazing combination to play with.

GB had the most playable cards and clearly was the strongest combination.  Blue was close, but there were only a few very strong playable cards and all of them cost UU which would have been tough.

Built what I think is the besdt deck, red/green aggro with 16 land. no bombs so go for speed + solid green beaters + finishers in cleaver riot and geyser. Left out krenkos due to space issues but could be wrong.

The card pool this week only left a few options, and none of them were particularly impressive.  R/G is the only deck I'd expect to be able to be consistent enough to top 8 with.

This was tough...I really wanted to go blue...2 x spelltwine and 2 x mind sculpt plus 2 x archeomancer is just asking for milling trouble! But I like to like me some lots of creatures...and while I don't have overrun, Cleaver Riot will work just as nicely!

I was torn between the more fun looking U/B/r mill deck and the stronger looking G/B deck.

So I made both:

***************************************************************************************

From Mark Rosewater's Tumblr: the0uroboros asked: How in the same set can we have a hexproof, unsacrificable(not a word) creature AND a land that makes it uncounterable. How does this lead to interactive play? I believe I’m able to play my creature and you have to deal with it is much more interactive than you counter my creature.

***************************************************************************************

***************************************************************************************

MaRo: One of the classic R&D stories happened during a Scars of Mirrodin draft. Erik Lauer was sitting to my right (meaning that he passed to me in the first and third packs). At the end of the draft, Erik was upset because I was in his colors (black-green). He said, "Didn't you see the signals? I went into black-green in pack one." I replied, "Didn't you see my signals? I started drafting infect six drafts ago."

***************************************************************************************

MaRo: I redesigned him while the effect was on the stack.

Thought I'd go with a control-centric deck.  My opponent would probably hate me, but milling them to death would be pretty plausible with these cards.

What I found interesting was the blue mill options:

Show

Total Deck Size: 40
18 Lands
---------------
7 Island  - Must get two!
6 Plains - Planar cleansing will be a late game spell.
5 Swamp  - A two swamp mutilate can still be a life-saver.

9 Creatures
---------------
2 Archaeomancer
1 Guardian Lions  - That one power can make a huge difference vs a goblin deck or if you have a mutilate.
1 Guardians of Akrasa
2 Harbor Serpent - Ground staller.  Alternate win condition.
1 Healer of the Pride - This deck has a surprising number of creatures and spells to get them.
1 Kraken Hatchling
Xathrid Gorgon - Crazy good in this deck.

13 Other Spells
---------------
1 Angel's Mercy - Can't believe I'm playing this card.
Elixir of Immortality - Life gain, win condition, shuffle effect?  Absolutely.
Index - I REALLY can't believe I'm playing this card.
Mind Sculpt
Mutilate - Don't hesitate to use this with 2-3 swamps.
1 Oblivion Ring - Beware of this with the Planar Cleansing.
Planar Cleansing - Likely not until late game.
1 Rewind - I'd rather play a Negate, but sometimes you have to stop the bomb creature.
1 Rise from the Grave - Now...where was that bomb creature that you rewinded/mindsculpted/cleansed?
2 Spelltwine - So much synergy here.  If they have any instants/sorceries this will be the best card in your deck.
Talrand's Invocation - Blockers?  Gain 4 life from Healer of the Pride? Alternate win condition?

Between the 2 Mind Sculpt, the 2 Archaeomancer and the 2 Spelltwine, you have 6 potential mills over the course of the game.  If the opponent is playing any instants or sorceries at all, you're in great shape as Mind Sculpt will help you see them.  A Vodalken Entrancer or two would have made an aggro-mill strategy a slam dunk, but instead we have to go for the stall.

Fortunately, this pack comes with two board sweeping spells and 4 ways to get them back if you can survive to the late game.  So how do we get to the late game?  Since we're short on full removal, some fat blockers and life gain seems like our best bet.

Our walls should force our opponent to commit more to the board and survive an early 3-swamp mutilate.  Xathrid Gorgon is pretty much a game winner if you get it out.  If your opponent has ways to remove it, you're going to 3-for-1 them with your Spelltwine.  The Harbor Serpentx2 are even better at stalling the ground and can be an alternate win condition (especially against blue).

Elixir of Immortality is an easy choice as it's a solid chunk of life and an alternative way to avoid decking yourself if you have to use mindsculpt on yourself to search for a board wipe to Spelltwine/Archaomancer.  Angel's Mercy is normally a card I scorn, but it's a healthy chunk of life that you might need to use as an archaeomancer or spelltwine target to survive.  The added versitility combined with how fragile this deck is likely to be in the early game seems like it would be worth it.

Obviously, mana is going to be this deck's greatest foe.  Three colors.  Planar Cleansing requires 3 white and Mutilate might as well require 3 swamps to cast.  And we're basically splashing these?!   18 lands is a bare minimum.  I never thought I would ever play an Index, but it should help some especially with Elixir of Immortality to shuffle.  This is also a deck that is dependent upon a few big defensive abilities, so the card cost isn't quite that critical when you're desperate for a board sweeper or just one more Mind Sculpt.  In any case, I wouldn't plan on mutilating for 5 or attacking anyone with those Serpents unless they're playing blue.

There seemed to be two main decks waiting in this set.  Ironically neither shared colors.  R/G speed aggro and B/W Exhaulted.

I felt two of Blacks rares were counter-productive to what they want to do, so I chose R/G.  That and I have been on a R/G kick lately.

This deck comes out wicked fast.  dealing a potential of 20 damage by turn 4

I went red/green like many folks. Despite lacking rares in both colors, these were the deepest colors with the best creatures. Hope for the Ring of Kalonia and Rancor early to buff your smaller dudes. Get the Volcanic Strength in if the opponent is playing red, and Cleaver Riot if your opponent has some nasty bomb that you want to try to outrace.

I decided blue black control. Rise from the grave and spelltwine make mind sculpt have good value. Mutilate is in their to help not commit, wipe their board, then use gorgon to keep them from ever doing anything. then use a mind sculpt to ensure that they deck themselves before you do. Okay more likely we will just attack until the other guys is dead or stabilize in the mid-game and take over with spells plus spelltwine, or use gorgon because gorgon locks you out. deck will fall apart occasionally but we will come together more often.

Dunno if this is actually good, but here's what i ended up with:

I went GRb.  Double Sentinel Spider, double Flinthoof Boar, Ring + Huntbeast.. no color matches its beatdown potential.  Cleaver Riot does its best Overrun impression, especially with Rancor and Ring.  Red supplied some vanilla to keep things marching along and a rummager.  Only one black card, but it's a bomb and works oh so well with the Mwonvuil Beast Tracker. (Xathrid Gorgon has deathtouch!)  I would be much happier about this with a Farseek or Evolving Wilds, but I'm still happy with the deck:

And I'm sure I'd somehow manage to lose to that silly, awful mindsculpt deck that you could build with Hydrosurges and Indices and other terrible cards.

Note on mana: the app wanted a much huger forest count, because I'm playing so many green spells.  But only the spiders and tracker need double green, and Elf can be a second forest, so I upped the mountain count significantly.  I want to be able to play that Geyser when I need it and turn on my Boars.  Also, I want to keep dropping creatures and moving up the curve every turn so those Dragon Hatchlings are do-nothings.  I'm stuffed in the two-drop slot and they are the weakest links.
Looking over the cards, I first went blue-green, hoping for some card retrieval from graveyard and enter the battlefield tricks. It looked a bit.. meh.
Then I tried red-white.. and it's not all that, either. I suppose red-green and black-blue work better.

This pool was rather odd, containing a lot of multiple copies of cards. The quadruple Farseek was hard to ignore, as well as a triple Krenko's Command and double Searing Spear (And a triple Planar Cleansing???). Other than that I also think red and green were the best colors to work with, but Farseek had me splash white  to add some more troops to my army. The list might say '10 creatures', but there's five more spells that generate tokens. I've got some moderately high-priced cards up the curve, but I hope three Farseeks will get me there. Meanwhile, I still have some two and three mana things to play. I rounded it out with a Fog, two Spearing Spears and a Volcanic Geyser as removal, really focusing on getting in the punches. Also, white allowed me to add Oblivion Ring, which is always good.
