No offense, but shouldn't this be in the Optimization or Characterization forum?

Crazed undead horror posing as a noble and heroic forum poster!

Some good pointers for the fellow hobbyist!:

  • KEEP D&D ALIVE, END EDITION WARS!
  • RESPECT PEOPLES' PREFERENCES
  • JUST ENJOY THE GAME!
Howdy folks,

I have moved this thread to 4E Character Optimization where it is more on topic.

Thanks.

All around helpful simian

Thanks pal :-) I'm still kinda new here still get lost a lot :-)

Now that you are in the (possibly) right place, you should probably elaborate on what exactly these posts are trying to accomplish.
It's concept comes frur warriors who aims to have the power of the dragons do old,  one who blast thier enemies with elemental powes as well as slash them with the blade, these are front line warriors who is specializing mass damage you could consider them MS Baladin  (Mark Slash Blast Paladins)  The first  one is design more on the individual need , although both design are not as good in giving damage as normal strikers but it have a better attack bonus damage and. Although both have the same sorcerer defensive utility spells Shava still have the edge on defense over Gwayne since she is design just to survive , The second one Gwayne although having sorcerer defense capability he is design to defend his party member if possible to the death, his purpose inlike is to go first in and last out , if possible if the party is to be wipe out Gwayne is design to die first before any if his party members do. :-) while Shava is design is just to hold on dear life as long as possible :-)

    The design is inspired by an old NES game that i played a RPG, in which you start as a warrior you collects armors and weapons as well as learning magic spell once u complete all level you will transform into a dragon and finish off the main boss, and there is also a NES game that the beginning is an armored warrior raise his sword on top of the mountain ans transform into a dragon

   In dnd concept these are knights of Bahamut  or Tiamat who desire to mimic the power of the dragon  of old. Studying sorcery to call power of The dragon within thier blood and spirit. Thier aim is that someday they would become themselves dragons
Gwayne skills are also selecTed so that in a way he will be a lot closer on what we expect of a paladin to havehand act....ntoe he havereligion although he have a very small int:-) while Shava has bluff although useful , it's not normal for a paladin to bluff :-)

Are you posting because you want a critique of the build?
Yup i need to improve on it so i need ur suggestion
Gwayne
   Gwayne was born as one of the twins by a Valenar Elf father and a human mother, during a slavers raid he was successfully abducted when he was still a baby , luckily he was save when the slavers was arrested by a patrol of Paladins, he was raise on a church as a child, there he was always alone because most children were scared of him because of flame suddenly sprouting out thinking it was a curse from the demons he hid in the altar room praying to Bahamut to cleanse him of this unholy flame, while praying aloud a Paladin by the name of Sir Lance manage to over hear him ,took pity and kneel beside him and whisper to him that those fire are a demon's curse but rather the mark of the dragon a gift from Bahamut to those who have the heart of The platinum dragon, from that moment on he was adopted by Sir Lance and his wife Lady Sarah, they treat Gwayne as thier own son as well as training him the way of the Paladins of Bahamur  and eventually his squire displaying admirable bravery and valor which eventually made him a full Paladin of Bahamut.  And was given his first command on a deserted outpost, there he meet Aylena an Eladrin Paladin, both of them got close, but then tragedy strike thier oupost was attack by hords of orcs there seeing his comrades slaughtered and Aylema critically wounded he called dormamt powers within and with the flaming liquid spray from his hands burning his enemy as if hit by a dragon's breath! Although he manage to win the encounter but seeing his love  wounded and friends dying he swore that no one after him will ever get hurt and giving him the attitude that is seem reckless specially if it is to defend his comrades . From then on he start searching for his origins and manage to chance upon the people who is the same tribe as his father living there and learning the ancient art of wielding the scimitar which is the weapon of choice Of his father's tribe as well as receiving a gift a scimitar that will able him to protect his comrade more effectively and but some twist of faith letting him channel his dragon powers through this blade. Lots more adventures awaited for him until he was able to have the honors of being one of the Vessels of Bahamut.
Shava
     Shava was the remaining twin child of Garren a Valenar Elf and Sofia a human farmer's daughter, Shava's brother was taken by Slavers when she was stilla baby, her family live In the slam making a living doing odd jobs to make ends meet, although poor Shava have a loving family , she also manage to make friends with an old neighbor an old lady name Natasha who was deeply dedicated to Bahamut, she sometimes teach her the way of Bahamut and tales of knight in shining armor, when she is not home she works in a local shop there she learns how to deal with people giving a really relaxing atmosphere around her, slowly she learn about her gift able to shoot a jet of fire on her fingers but still she keep it a secret,
Later on she would join the local militia , as join the old lady Natasia offered her some training on how to channel The divine in the art of weapon combat, using sheer determination and faith to use strike rather than brute strenght channeling divine energy through the blade which was quite handy during an undead epidemic, which her natural arcane capabilities and divine warrior training she was able to shine during the invasion, single handedly defeat a whole squad of zombies alone, as well as holding out the hoard until renforcement arrive, making her parents and the old lady proud of her , there her father though him the art of scimitar of the Valenar Elf and the old lady Natashia gave her  a scimitar enchanted in such a way so she is able to channel some of her arcane energy toward the blade, after   Many adventure she was able to infuse her self with The power of her soul that of an ancient dragon! an incarnation of her soul's true form  and at last Natasha gave her his old blade which she use during during her Paladin days , a holy avenger.
Characteristic:
   Gwayne: Gwayne is a no non sense kinda guy, he is dead serious about things and is afraid to get close to anybody, he may seem aloof but he deeply cares about people although he seldom show it, his experience with his old comrade also make him willing to do almost anything to make sure his companions are safe even if it means giving up his own life and the funny thing is he don't expect his comrade to do the same.  In fact he never want to see a companion die trying to save his life, given that he is prone to give long lectures about honor and duty enumerating all the deeds of past heroes as an example but never on what he done, and he is also the type of guy who practice what he preach to the letter. Although he is always look as if he is preparing for an uniform. Inspection , with armor and weapon shine and clean , he doesn't believe in ceremonial awarding and stuff, or some snubby officer club or even mingling with nobles ans the sort he prefer in the barracks or eating some ration in a camp somewhere.
   Shava: Shava is not your typical Paladin, her armor is often lacking polish and often times covered clothes pouches and other stuff she fimd useful,she is not even recognize as one in any order but despite that she is the real deal, she is almost often seen in a jolly mood smiling and is extremely chatty friendly and very sociable, despite this happy go lucky attitude she is quite dedicated to Bahamut and does her duty and does it well,unlike most paladins of Bahamut she is more open do different tactics even those that other of her class consider dirty and improper. Since she grow up in the slums , she is more than willing to fight gutter to gutter ans quite dirty. She is also more approachable than most of those high and mighty snobs, for her being a Paladin is not about fine steed and classy grammer its about doing her Gods duty and nobody tell her how to do it even if it will end up crawling in sewers and rolling in the gutter.during her free time she enjoy hanging out in rowdy tavern often consuming milk and joing a little tavern brawl.
I don't know a whole lot about Sorc|Pallys, but a few notes:

Must you Paragon Hybrid?  That's almost always a much weaker choice than taking a real paragon path.

Are you set on half-elf?  The dilettantes aren't bad picks, but you don't really do much with them.  Dragonborns have a ton of support that can go perfectly with a "becoming a dragon" story - if you say they look like half-elves at level 1, then that's what they look like.

You should squeeze a multiclass feat in there somewhere.  They're strong feats on their own and open up access to more support.  Warlord MC could fill the RP space that Direct the Strike gives you now.

If you're planning to play this from level 1, you probably want to switch some feats around.  Expertise should come way sooner, for instance.

Finally, the actual backstories you've posted will get better resonse over in Character Development.  For most people here, walls-o-text about fluff just makes their eyes glaze over.  Come here for advice on the actual mechanics of your character, and go to CharDev to post the stories.  So I'd suggest you repost the last few posts in a new thread over there and have two threads running.
Actually Dragon soul can give me tons of defense which i would really need , anyway most dragon knights in the anime are not dragonborn they are human elf etc who have the soul of a dragon unlike dragon born they need to earn those powers, at paragon they begin to taste thier powers of a dragon dont really mind about other paragon class they might be interesting and might even be powerful but the paragon hybrid just serve us well enough ur right expertise should come first but i also learn a good defence like plate and shield will give u more survivabiity than accuracy beside although this one is a hybrid this is mainly a defender with mass attack damage at close range, but ur right about expertise maybe around 2nd with light blade and heavy blades, actually the design been tested and it did work alot , to me a dragon knight doesnt have to look like a dragon but he would be someone who fights like a dragon beside who needs dragon breath when u have burning spray an at will power and u can aways chance the flavoring with the same effect Shava might breath fire from her mouth instead of her fingers and gwayne fire might come from his scimitar when he slash his blade although they might look different they can have the same effect anyway maybe i need to edit some character developement but as far as defense is conceren who woudne want a +12 to all defense during a sudden scale or a +9 ac bonus until end of encounter with adamantine echo or a + 9 to all defene until end of encounter with platinum scale and the +3 stockable bonus to all defense in devine agis not to mention the full plate and rthym blade bonus , beside a divine challenge wih group defense and mark of warding  a penalt of 4 isnt east to ignore war lord is good as a leader but this design is a defender through and through but ur right on expertise it should have been earlier
Ok so I have been **** around with Pali/Sorc after my Barb/Sorc died a horrible death and was turned into a Vortex Wraith. I choose mostly Sorc powers that were close bursts or blasts. My problem is, Hybrid Pali doesnt get Lay on Hands! SO, I ditched the weak mark and went for Blackguard. I'm at level 7, cause thats what I am playing. I am a striker, but I can tank. I can also do some healing for my allies. The only thing I would really feel like changing, is an item that gives resist/all. Resist/all+Temp HP = not having to stress healer.

now THIS is pod racing!

Weak mark? Not really, no. DC/DS will net your far more damage than being a Blackguard ever will, no matter the level.

That said: you don't need Arcane Implement Proficiency, nor necessarily Versatile Expertise. Hybrid rules state that you can use an implement from  either class for the powers of both classes. Which means you can use an Holy Symbol for Sorcerer's powers, and stick with 1h+shield. That also allows you to pick Devoted Protector's Expertise, which works with weapons and Holy Symbols, and grants your allies a flat +1AC bonus just because you're wearing a shield. In case you rethink and go for straight Paladin, a HS means extra damage on your punishment (which is not weak), in the form of Symbol of the Champion's Code.
I like ur style i guess your lucky u have a good defender in ur party to support u , the real working model of this build she is the main defender although i like ur main idea on ur idea on temp hp it will surely give u a enough time to hold a really nasty crowd with a party of Rogue/ranger/Cloak Sniper, Ranger/Fighter(tempest)/Kensai and a Wizard/Artificer/Foget the Paragon Class I think she is the only decent defender luckily ur party i think is more versitile and still i like ur build I guess the primary difference of out build urs is primarily a striker mine is primarily  a defender. I willtry to paste the working build of Shava

Thanks for giving me an idea of the symbol of Champion code I think I will try to get it in out next adventure

Weak mark? Why yes, the Hybrid Pali mark is weak...for this character, its 4 damage IF AND ONLY IF the enemy violates the mark. In practice, getting +8 damage out of my blackguard is fairly easy.

However, your recommendation of Devoted Protector's Exp saves me 2 feats  I can't even begin to tell you how happy that makes me...happy enough to, at the very least, give this a shot.

Level 6: White Lotus Riposte >>when I hit with burning spray, enemies will take damage if they hit me. Combine with Draconic Challange @ level 8, which lets me mark everyone in my breath blast. Creates a "Damned if you do, Damned if you don't" scenario.

ITEMS
Force Broadsword +2 x1 >>without Arcane Imp, I can not switch my Sorc powers to Force at will like I can with my Blackguard. While there is little to be said about the value of force damage, it also means I can not exchange my Sorc powers for Fire, Cold, Radiant ect until later in the game. Also complicates feats that empower such damage types.
Flamedrinker Shield Heavy Shield (heroic tier) x1 >>who doesnt love fire resist
Martyr's Plate Armor +2 x1 >>Is a logical choice for this character
Amulet of Protection +2 x1
Magic Holy Symbol +2 x1

Power suggestions for the Paladin|Sorcerer version:

- Ardent Strike as your Paladin at-will: a useful, limitless way of Sanctioning an enemy and thus playing with your punishment;
- Valorous Smite (Paladin) as your E1: it's a mass marking skill! Either everyone suddenly turns on you (and you're a plate and shield guy with Sudden Scales and stuff, so good luck), or you're gonna have a big holy explosion in seconds; more importantly, a Paladin E1 frees your slot for...
- Flame Spiral (Sorcerer) as your E3: it's the Sorcerer close power, and considering you're half defender, the chances of double tapping into it are amazing; run into the enemy formation, drop a mass Sanction with Valorous Smite (or Call of Challenge, see further) and AP for Flame Spiral; now they can stick to you and double tap into the Spiral damage, or try to run away and deal with someone else violating your mark, falling right into a nice catch-22;
- Majestic Halo (Paladin) as D1: another mass marking power, which requires you to simply be there beside enemies, which kinda is your place anyway;
- Thunder Leap or Glacial Armor (both Sorcerer) as D5: either a close attack with potentially double damage (best case, jump on your place and hit everyone twice), or a nice buff on yourself for a catch-22 - hit you and take your Cha as cold damage (easily exploitable later on) or attack someone else and eat your punishment;
- Call of Challenge or Bless Weapon (both Paladin) as your U2: mass marking again, see why I was saying it's loads of damage, it's easy to turn it into a solid source of constant aoe; or a very good buff for one encounter, hit, damage, crit chance;

As you see, the idea is to set up as many marks as you can, since your punishment takes no actions and can damage any number of foes at any time. By the way, the hybrid paladin punishment originally required an Interrupt - it does not, not anymore - so anything that's under Challenge or Sanction can take damage on the same turn, no questions asked. Mark damage can be stellar, if you set up things right ;)
And for the rest, obviously, you spread around some love with Sorcerer's powers and your breath, sometimes creating some good catch-22.
Those are execellent choice of power, its probobly worth lookig into
