Does anyone truly like the Scout?

I see people commenting frequently on how much they like the Scout and Noble because of lots of trained skills. Noble I can understand, but does anyone really  like the flavor of the Scout? It always seemed such a niche role to me, an explorer-y, hardy type. I could see myself being a Scout to  be a sniper, or the strerotypical explorer type, but aside from that I just don't like the flavor. I really want to like the Scout for more then the trained skills at 1st and Shake It Off, it seems like it has great potential, but most (not all) of it's talents are focused on upping skills or some such.

I'll say that Scout is easily one of my top three starting classes.  I'll also mention that I don't even bother looking at all the fluff that comes with the class but I like it because its mechanics.  Here are my top three, in alphabetical order, and why.

Noble:  Most skills in the game including all the Social Skills.  Also has party boosting talents which can help make up for it being on the bottom in terms of fighting ability.  The cons for the class are the low BAB, d6 HD/18 starting hp, and it only gets +1 REF.

Scout:  Second most skills and basically gets the ones that the Noble doesn't.  Middle of the road for hitpoints which makes it the tops for the "skill" classes when it comes to durability.  Gets slightly better weapon proficiencies with addition of Rifles.  Shake It Off is nice BUT it also comes at the price of one trained skill (Endurance) and needs you to have a high (13) CON score.  I look at its talents and I see ones that will help keep my character alive through various methods.  This class is also the only was to get the Survival talent which you'd need to get into the Bounty Hunter PrC.

Soldier:  Tops in hitpoint/HD and full BAB.  Gets two armor proficiencies in addition to pistols and rifles; even if you don't wear armor far into your character progression this can provide a real nice defensive boost the the Soldier early on.  Not a lot of trained skills but they include Treat Injury (Combat Medic!) and all the "tech" ones except Knowledge.  Its talents are varied with Commando talents being a prereq for a LOT of PrCs; an issue here is that some people like starting off with Armor Specialist talents which aren't so great early on because of Armored Defense.
Scout also offers the best options for the infiltration archetype.

I love scout for when I'm making skill monkeys, jedi or not...I don't tend to play pure support roles so noble is usually out and scout has the best mix between combat/noncombat options for the reasons steven0 gave above.  I love the soldier for the pure combat option, usually Mando of course, I played DoD with a mando and the AC was gamebreaking...had to tone it down a bit but someone else wound up making a fun combat medevac pilot with soldier/ace pilot/medic that was able to hold his own in a fight and heal us after. I really like the options Saga gave us...so I'm going to pass on FFG EotE for now. I'm just not into FFGs' decision with this iteration. C'est La vie

Scout has some pretty good Stealth-related talents, such as Total Concealment. The Evasion talent is a huge hit.

Anyone who wants take levels of Bounty Hunter is forced to take 3 levels of Scout. I have mixed feelings about that, but that’s another issue.

It's also of note that Scout is the ONLY class that has access to Survival skill.

I love the scout.  Chewbacca was a scout!  Jar Jar was a scout!  (Okay, I know that may not be a selling point.)  Young Luke Skywalker was a scout!  I like them for their versatility, not just in game mechanics terms, but also in the wide variety of archetypes the class is meant to encompass.

That's the problem for me, I see them as the most restrictive, flavor-wise. All three of them grew up on a planet with large amounts of untamed wilderness. (Well the Gungans have a city, but Jar-Jar got kicked out).

I like the scout too. I think that one thing the Saga developers got brilliantly was identifying the 5 "types" of encounters that occur in Star Wars, and assigning a class (and later, a sourcebook) to each one:

The Force (Jedi v Sith, lightsabre duels) - Jedi
Intrigue (politics, espionage) - Noble
The Underworld (criminals, smuggling) - Scoundrel
Warfare (military, mass battles) - Soldier

Aaaaaaand...

Wilderness (exotic planets, monsters) - Scout

A minor part it may be compared to the Force or warfare, but where would we be without wilderness adventures? Every film has monsters (the sarlacc, the rancor, the wampa, Boga, the Naboo sea monsters, the arena beasts) and every film has cool locations (Dagobah, Endor, Kamino, Mustafar). The scout taps into that vibe, and I feel it's an essential part of the Star Wars feel.

Besides, without scouts, where would we get our bounty hunters?

Jar Jar was a scout!

I've always thought of Jar Jar as a Scoundrel. He's given Scoundrel in his write-up in the KOTOR web articles preview. Anyway, there's no "Bonehead" class, otherwise, he would be that.

Intrigue (politics, espionage) - Noble

Scouts can also take a piece of the Espionage. The Espionage, Spy, Surveillance, and Camoflage talent trees all contribute to that.

Also, Scouts make good snipers. They start with Weapon Proficiency (rifles), and the Hidden Attacker talent lets you snipe as a swift action. Add Reactive Stealth, Hunker Down, Total Concealment, and Ghost Assailant for more sniping naughtiness.

In addition, any army would benefit from a Scout that has Surveillance or Spotter talent, as he would grant +1 or +2 attack bonuses to all allies vs. a particular target.

This thread made me happy, like I said I really wanted to like the Scout and you all have made it possible.
