New player, wondering what to play...

Hey all, I really want to get into Modern/Vintage/Legacy using a deck that is viable in all three (to save  some serious $$$) and I was wondering what deck would be good for for this.

I normally play green and was looking at Zoo, and it seems the only "big" difference between the formats is Wild Nacatl in Modern.

I was hoping for some insight into whether this deck would be worth investing in or not, and if it's not, what deck would be good to invest in? Thanks!
I'm just going to get the first post in all your same threads across the forums.  Well, probably not the Vintage one...

I'm personally of the opinion you shouldn't really bother with the same deck in multiple formats.  You usually don't save all that much money.

For Modern, if I were to build something for the format, I'd probably build the 4-color Birthing Pod deck that was popular at GP Columbus.  The deck looked super powerful being able to win the game from a Birds of Paradise, Wall of Roots and a Birthing Pod.  It's also not that expensive (Kiki-Jiki, Mirror Breaker and Restoration Angel are probably the most expensive spells), there always seems to be a Pod deck in the format (though individual pieces change) and it looked really fun to play.

Other than that, probably some form of Delver (U/W/R or U/W) would provide the best basis for a multi-format deck.  If memory serves me, U/W/R plays very similar to Zoo as it gets the beats on with Steppe Lynx and other small creatures.

Cyrus, do you think there may be room to attack the meta from a LD perspective?

There's so much room for brewing in the format I have to think there's some space for:

4 Fulminator Mage
4 Boom // Bust
? Trinket Mage
? Snapcaster Mage
? Thoughtseize
? Inquistion of Kozilek

3 Other Trinket Mage bullets

Darksteel Citadel

Maybe if you're able to disrupt effectively you can set up for a Bust geddon and ride an effective beater from there. Like a tombstalker who would love to eat some trashed cards from the bin.

Personally, I think there is better disruption avaliable than LD. As you know, I like a bit of LD, but it doesn't feel good enough. Disruption in the form of Thalia and co seems a lot stronger and gives you a way to win the game in one nice package.

The LD gives you the need to take their low curve with discard and ramp into three mana spells. Three mana one for ones feel a little less than amazing at the moment, and the combo decks can just make lots of other mana or storm you out on two lands anyway.

So maybe an Italia deck? Thalia, Fulminator, Boom // Bust? Get owned, kid?

I tried a few team italia builds but couldn't find one I liked, if you come up with something, please let me know

I have a bit of a pet deck I'm working on for GP Lyon that I'll share with everyone later in the year.

Love to see it, even if you just pm it to me (if so my lips are sealed, promise).

But I can wait, our Modern season doesn't kick off til after the Limited(Sealed) PTQ season concludes.

Been working on a LD deck, but I don't get to play enough Modern to say if its worth playing, and as such I'm not comfortable posting the list. Needless to say, it has a lot of fetchlands (12) and splashes white for Thalia as the only white card.

For topic of thread, go mono-Delver. Friend of mine has been doing it to good success, and Snapcaster Mage is awesome.
