You Build the Character #33 - EU Bounty Hunters

This contest is now closed.

Hi everyone, and welcome back to You Build the Character.

Bounty hunters are a group we've tackled once before in YBtC. In the last contest, all our entries were from the films. This time, we're plunging into the seedy underworld of the Expanded Universe to find our mercenary law enforcers. Your challenge this month is to build a bounty hunter character who appears in any Star Wars story other than Episodes I-VI.
 
You can even enter multiple times, provided you follow the rules below.

You have until 11.59pm (PDT) on Thursday 30 August to post your RPG stats, and any notes you want to post explaining your decisions. Once submissions have closed, all forum members will have until 11.59pm (PDT) on Thursday 13 September to vote for their favourite. Whichever build receives the most votes will win.

The prize for winning is having your stats enshrined in the YBtC Hall of Fame, as well as the bragging rights.

The following rules apply to all submissions:

  1. All builds must be created according to RAW, with no house rules (no single Athletics skill, no bonus feats for bloodlines etc).

  2. You may use "unlimited" point buy for ability scores, provided each score is between 3 and 18 at first level (before racial and age adjustments).

  3. You are free to use material from all official Saga Edition books, up to and including The Unknown Regions.

  4. You may enter more than once. An entry can consist of up to three characters. Each individual forum post containing stat blocks counts as an entry unless otherwise specified.

  5. You may not enter more than one set of stats for the same character.

  6. You may not enter a character who has already been the subject of their own competition.

  7. When creating stat blocks, use the species traits from official WotC sources. If a species never received official stats, use the ones from Saga-Edition.com. If there are no stats on Saga-Edition.com, you may create your own, but make sure to include them with your stat block.

  8. You may change your stats at any point up until submissions close, at which point any edited stats will be disqualified.

Correct, anybody who wasn't in the movies. I doubt anybody would really complain about a character who was seen for a blip and expanded in EU as a Bounty Hunter, but the intention is a character from outside of the movies (seen in a video game, book, comic, etc).

But the character does have to exist, so no made up characters.
Well, Aurra Sing wouldn't qualify - even if her story was expanded on in the EU, she still appeared in Ep. I.


Based on this list from the Wookiee, even without movie characters you're spoiled for choice - and it isn't even a complete list.

Exotic Weapon
Very similar to the more common (yet still rare Wrist Rocket LauncherCW), the Wrist Multi-launcher is a weapon created by Mira to enhance her repetoire of options against opponents. The wrist multi-launcher combines the traditional attributes of the original weapon with a dart gun and a 'catapult' capable of launching any grenade more accurately over longer distances (Grenades launched by this weapon are treated as a Pistol for the purpose of determining range penalties). Reloading any of the ammunition types requires a Move Action.
Any character with Exotic Weapon Proficiency (Wrist Rocket Launcher) is proficient with the Wrist Multi-launcher as well. Mira is the only known person to have created and used this weapon, though it is not inconceivable that other people could produce facsimilies.

What about Boushh and Darth Krayt? Boushh occupies a gray area because his armor, but not him, is in the movies. Darth Krayt might have had a previous competition.

I see no problem with Boushh - you're right in that he himself never appears in the movie. So he would qualify as an EU bounty hunter.

As for A'Sharad Hett/Darth Krayt, he's legal, just so long as you stat him as of his career as a bounty hunter. He hasn't had his own contest before - you can see the full list of competitions in the Hall of Fame

I would say that, unless the modification can be done using the S&V rules, make it a new piece of equipment ("heavy wrist rocket launcher" or whatever).

Alright, now to explain why I did what I did with the build. The first time we see Embo in action, his combat style is very active, and involves alot of acrobatics and running. To reflect this, I gave Embo the Close Combat Escape feat alongside Martial Arts I to show how he used his acrobatics along with his unarmed skills, and I gave him the Long Stride and Surge talents to reflect how fast Embo was during the fight. Continuing on with this, I also gave Embo the Skirmisher talent, reflecting how he moved from place to place to dispatch enemies. Now, some of you might be wondering why I started Embo off with the Scoundrel class, and my answer to this is that it was to provide Embo with the Acrobatics skill right off the bat. On to the Notorious talent, I gave him that due to Wookieepedia stating that next to Cad Bane, Embo was highly recognized as one of the best bounty hunters in the galaxy. As for Opportunistic Shooter and Point Blank Shot, that is to reflect Embo's skill at using his bowcaster and hat while going into fairly close quarters while fighting the pirates on Felucia. Shae Vizla was a Human Mandalorian female who lived during the Great Galactic War and the subsequent Cold War that resulted from the peace established between the two warring factions, the Galactic Republic and the resurgent Sith Empire. Working as a bounty hunter, Vizla was often employed by the Sith Empire, who made use of her martial skills when undertaking the most risk-intensive missions. Shae Vizla was part of the Imperial force charged with attacking theplanet of Alderaan, and later launched a strike on a Republic political envoy. During the assault, Vizla's brother was killed by the Jedi Master Aurei Eadon, and Vizla subsequently developed an intense hatred for the Jedi Order. When the Empire elected to mobilize an attack on the galactic capital world of Coruscant, Vizla was contracted to disable the planet's defense grid, located within the Jedi Temple. In conjunction with a frontal assault by the Sith Lord Darth Malgus, Vizla infiltrated the Temple, proceeding to kill several members of the Temple Security Force during the resultant battle between the assailing Sith warriors and the defending Jedi Knights. She successfully completed her mission to disable the defense grid, allowing Darth Angral's Sith armada to strike at Coruscant, and when the attack was over and the Jedi defeated, Vizla briefly lingered until receiving the professional approval of Lord Malgus. She then utilized her jetpack to fly away from the Temple.

Twin Suns was the name given to female Twi'lek assassins Seer'aa and Teer'aa, who operated in the aftermath of the Jedi Civil War. Once slaves from Ryloth, they killed their Masters and then became bounty hunters taking the name of Twin Suns. Armed with deadly Twi'lek Spinning Blades and deflector shields, they were very beautiful Twi'leks, a trait that they used to their advantage while hunting.

In 3,951 BBY, during the aftermath of the Jedi Civil War, the Twin Suns traveled on the Visionary with several other bounty hunters. They were hired by Goto to capture the Jedi Exile alive, informing them that her death would not be tolerated.

HK-50



HK-50 assassin droids were often able to successfully pose as protocol droids, and they infiltrated much of the Galactic Republic fleet in doing so. They were intelligent, deceptive, and manipulative. They also had highly sadistic tendencies, referring to organics as "meatbags." If anyone were not aware that they were assassin droids, they would not realize the true and deadly nature of the droid.

The HK-50 assasssin droids were activated by the crime lord G0-T0 to bring all Jedi to him. He ordered that if the Jedi would not come willingly, the droid was to destroy them. This led to a confrontation between Meetra Surik, the Jedi Exile, and several HK-50's.

Gand Bounty Hunters




Gands are strange insectoid creatures. These Gand Bounty Hunters were gathered by G0-T0 along with other bounty hunters onboard his starship, the Visionary. From there they were sent to capture Meetra Surik, the last known jedi. Unfortunately for them, the jedi exile proved to be more than a match for them as she plowed past hordes of Gand in the Jekk'Jekk Tarr, an exotic cantina filled with gas fumes similar to their homeworld.

Sardu Sallowe CL 12


Sardu Sallowe was a Tusken Raider from Tatooine who eventually left his home planet to search for his fortune off-world as a bounty hunter. Due to the excellent tracking skills he had developed during his early life, he became a very successful bounty hunter, coming to the attention of Embra the Hutt. The skills Sallowe learned during his early years served him well as a bounty hunter. He was an expert tracker with keen senses, even behind his wrappings. Sallowe could move almost silently when trailing a target and gathering information, and was proficient in escapology and sleight of hand. He was skilled in the use of both blaster pistols and rifles, as well as a variety of explosives. Sallowe was able to speak his native Tusken, along with Jawaese and the Jawa Trade Langage. He generally used a mixture of his own language and Jawaese, which contributed to speculation that he had perhaps been adopted by a Jawa tribe after he was separated from his own people. Sallowe was a distinctive figure due to his traditional Tusken attire. He wore a shabby, rough-woven cloak, with the hood pulled low over his head. Combined with the ever present breath mask, which filtered out the sand in the deserts of his homeworld, Sallowe's face was obscured except for his glowing yellow eyes. Sallowe was typically armed with two charges of Synthech explosives, which he could activate with a remote detonator, along with a blaster pistol and knife. Also concealed within his robes were his comlink and electrobinoculars.

Zhug Brothers

Azanti and Desanti Zhug were Duros bounty hunters from the planet Duro and leaders of a bounty hunter group called the Zhug brothers. Both of them were arrogant and disrespectful, especially towards other bounty hunters, whom they viewed as inferior.

After the group was cast out from Duro due to their violent acts against a rival family, Azanti and his group eventually settled on the moon Nar Shaddaa during the years around the Dark Wars. When the local Exchange crime lord G0-T0 set a bounty on Jedi, the Zhug brothers were eager to collect the large sum.

Fong Do


Fong Do was a male Nautolan who lived in the Coruscant Underworld during the Clone Wars. One of his friends was the bounty hunter Castas, who contacted him from Florrum after he quit a job with Aurra Sing. Fong had previously warned him about dealing with her but Castas quickly dismissed that revealing he had valuable information, most likely concerning Aurra. Before Castas could reveal the information to him, which Do seemed interested in, he was killed by Sing before he could reveal it. Later he was recounting the event to a Weequay Pirate, who was a member of Hondo Ohnaka's gang, in a bar. Realizing that he was being spied on by Jedi Padawan Ahsoka Tano, Do pulled out his two knives and would have attacked her had Jedi Master Plo Koon not intervened. Like the rest of the thugs in the bar he was taken by Ahsoka's distraction and let the eavesdropper get away. He was later seen at Jabba's palace when Chairman Papanoida and his son Ion were tracking Greedo.

Looking over his statblock again, I don't really see that many things in need of remeedy or change, I'd end up putting a statblock up very similair to what's in the  KotORCG.

Built by the Renegades of the Arkanian Revolution 50 years before the Battle of Yavin, Gorm was designed to be the ultimate soldier.  Combining organic and mechanical parts into a single body, he was virtually unstoppable, able to scavenge parts from any foe to keep himself operational.  Later in his career, he resurfaced multiple times after supposedly being killed, suggesting that nothing could keep him down short of disintegration.  When the Renegades were defeated by the Jedi, he was one of the few cyborgs who survived, in time turning to bounty hunting for a career which would last into the New Republic Era.  Early on, he acquired the moniker ‘The Dissolver’, a reference to a recycler droid appendage he sported which was designed to reduce objects to molecular paste and which he used to literally make his opponents ‘disappear’.  Although he lost the appendage in an encounter with Mace Windu, he repaired himself and kept working.
