Paragon Multiclassing addendum for Hexblades

Show

Paragon Multiclassing

This section expands on the paragon multiclassing rules on page 209 of the
Player's Handbook and page 194 of the Player’s Handbook 3.
Qualifying: To qualify for paragon multiclassing, you must have a multlclass
encounter, a multiclass utility, and a multiclass daily feat, regardless of those
feats' names. The three feats must be for the same class.
Hexblade: If your second class is the hexblade and you choose paragon
multiclassing, the benefits you gain at 11th level are different from those noted
in the Player’s Handbook, whereas the benefits you gain at 12th level and 20th
level are the same. If you have the encounter attack power associated with your
pact weapon class feature, in place of the paragon path encounter power gained
at 11th level, you can choose to gain the Improved Pact Weapon class feature
(Heroes of the Forgotten Kingdom, page 209). If you retrain your pact weapon
class feature encounter attack power, you lose the Improved Weapon Class
Feature.

Hybrid Hexblade

Hybrid Warlock (Hexblade)

Even more elusive than their contemporary brethren,
hybrid hexblades choose a second path for diverse reasons. Some choose to
specialize often choosing to focus on martial training to put their arcane blades to
good use. Others seek out their roots, learning the true powers of arcane magic.
However, all too often because of wide mistrust, hexblades take up the skills
necessary to living in the shadows and concealing their true nature. More honorable
hexblades follow a divine path to redeem themselves of their dark pacts. As a hybrid
hexblade you have proficiency with implements and the only weapon you’ll ever need.
With these tools you can attack from both melee and Range. Hybrids give up some of
their damage potential and utility.

Hybrid Restriction

When building a hybrid character, you cannot combine a hybrid hexblade with any other
type of warlock.

Class Features

Hybrid hexblades have the following class features.
Hexblade Pact (Hybrid): This class feature functions the same as the hexblade class
feature, except that you don’t gain the at will attack power or the Pact boon granted by it.
This means you meet prerequisites that require the pact you choose, and you can use the
benefits tailored for it in certain powers.
Pact Reward (Hybrid): You gain a bonus to the damage rolls of your warlock and warlock
paragon path attack powers. The bonus equals -2 + the ability modifier used in the pact reward
associated with your pact. Minimum bonus of 0. The bonus increases to your ability modifier at
5th level, 2 + your ability modifier at 15th level, and 4 + your ability modifier at 25th level. At 9th
level, you also gain this bonus to the damage rolls of the creature you summon with summon
warlock's ally
. You are considered to have the class feature for the purpose of meeting
prerequisites.
Lesser Planar Ally: At 4th level you gain the ability to call a Lesser planar ally. This Class feature
functions exactly as the Hexblade class feature (Heroes of the Forgotten Kingdom, page 210).

Hybrid Talent Options

If you take the Hybrid Talent feat, you can select one of the following options.

Hexblade Armor Proficiency: You gain proficiency with cloth armor, leather armor, hide armor, and

chainmail. If you chose the Elemental Pact you also gain proficiency with scale armor.

Hexblade Pact Boon: You gain the Pact Boon class feature associated with your Hexblade pact.

I haven't done any extensive playtesting of these options so feedback would be appreciated. I based everything off of existing WotC material and tried to take into account balance. Hexblades are one the most interesting classes in D&D and I was very disappointed to learn that there was no hybrid options for the subclass. Many subclasses were given hybrid and multiclass opions in Dragon #400. Now Hexblades can also hybrid into other roles.
Congratulations!  Your lucky players now have absolutely no reason to ever so much as look at the actual class ever again!
