If the heal check that triggers the River of Life Gauntlets is a DC 20, which grants a healing surge, can you stack the healing surge + 5 from the Gauntlets to that healing surge?  In effect granting 2 surges + 5.

FIRST AID


Make a Heal check to administer first aid to a subject.

Action: Standard action. The subject must be adjacent to the creature performing first aid.        
DC: The DC depends on which of the following tasks the creature attempts.     

Grant Second Wind (DC 10): The subject can use its second wind, if available, without taking an action. The subject doesn’t gain the defense bonus normally granted by second wind, but still gains any other benefits associated with its second wind, such as a benefit granted by a class feature or a feat.     

Grant a Saving Throw (DC 15): The subject can either make a saving throw immediately or gain a +2 bonus to a saving throw at the end of its next turn.     

Stabilize the Dying (DC 15): If the subject is dying, the subject stops making death saving throws until it takes damage. Being stabilized does not change the subject’s current hit point total.


The trigger to use the gauntlets is that you specifically succeed at a heal check to Stabilize the Dying. If you do any other kind of heal check, such as to Grant a Saving Throw or Grant Second Wind, you did not meet the triggering condition and you cannot use the power.
If you do meet the triggering condition, "Being stabilized does not change the subject's current hit point total", so there is no change to the target's HP except what the triggered power gives you.

Makes perfect sense.  We had bad info that the check of a 20 granted a surge, based on the copendium post you copied in, it does not.

Yah, a 20 on a death save allows the dying char to use a healing surge. As mentioned above, another character doing a heal check on the dying character must choose the task they want to do, then attempt to do it. Grant Second Wind != Stabalize Character so the gloves only trigger when Stabalizing and Stabalizing only stops the char from dying.
