Magic Arcana / Card of the Day / Daily Deck for June, 2012

This thread is for discussion of magicthegathering.com's Magic Arcana, Card of the Day, and Daily Decks features for the month of June, 2012.
So, I picked the Card of the Day theme for this week to be "Board Games", based on 'Scrabble'ing Claws, 'Game of Life'//Death, and Rune'boggle'... but how does the Skeleton Ship and Archwing Dragon fit into that?
Resize the Card of the Day image to 200x285.  Without the border, it's streching to fit the dimensions it would have if the borders were intact, which is making it all blurry and stuff.

I'm thinking Skeleton Ship -> Battleship though it's a stretch.

Also, I don't know if Wizards got bought out by some Spanish company or something, but the dates on the Card of the Day list are in Spanish (www.wizards.com/Magic/Magazine/Article.a...).
Edit: Either fixed or it was a temporary glitch.

Alternatively, restore the border so the Planechase 2012 scans don't look so weird in gatherer and pop-ups.
Really cool daily deck.
Despite today's arcana, Malignus is hindered by protection - he's unable to block creatures with relevant protection. His damage is unhindered, but that's not much help when Progenitus is attacking you for lethal...

This week's wallpaper features Allen Williams's Illusory Angel, the promo plane from the Planechase (2012 Edition) set. Enjoy.

Quite an obvious job of copy and paste.

But I do hope to see Trail of the Mage-Rings as a wallpaper soon. That plane's art is awesome.
Krond the Dawn-Clad – Planechase (2012 Edition) mythic rare. Krond is the first multi-color Archon in Magic as well as the first Legendary Archon. All the rest are mono-white and boringly non-legendary.

Silent-Blade Oni – Planechase (2012 Edition) rare. This is the first "Demon Ninja" inMagic's history. Up to now the only types of Ninjas were Human and Rat. One day I hope to see a Goblin Ninja; right Squee?

This is the second day in a row that the editors have forgotten about Mistform Ultimus

That is because they have established the metarule for talking about races and classes, that all references to such will include the phrase",...other than Changlings and Mistform Ultimus."

On another topic, so I guess it is official with this deck of the day.  Sorin, Lord of Innistrad is not good enough to be played in the deck it was built to be played in.
Four Blood Artists? What are you supposed to do, DoJ your own creatures?

Or...block with them?

Oh cool, another card from a promotional limited print run that will be ridiculously expensive because you won't print it in a regular set. Thanks WotC

One Blood Crypt does not a Rakdos deck make.
Gravedigger and Pacifism have been in eight core sets in a row. The sets were sixth, seventh, eighth, ninth, tenth, M10, M11, and M12.

Lava Axe, Mind Rot, and Serra Angel have been in seven core sets in a row.

Man, sure glad I have a PS3 and not a Xbox, so I get a decent mythic.

(at)MrEnglish22

Why do the PS3 owners get a card worth three times as much as the Xbox owners?
is there a typo on the arcana?  it mistakes the xbox360 promo, primordial hydra, as the ps3 promo in addition to the vampire nocturnus.

So, for example, that PlayStation 3 booster up there will contain this:

[pic of nocturnus]

Neat, right? And here are the other two cards, which are for PS3 and Steam/iPad users respectively.
[pic of hydra][pic of serra avatar]

So PS3 buyers will get a great card and the other two a kind of sucky card.

I'll gladly pass on this, wizards.

The Basic rulebook, read it! A lot of basic questions are answered there!

How to autocard :
Type [c]Black Lotus[/c] to get Black Lotus.
Type [c=Black Lotus]The Overpowered One[/c] to get The Overpowered One.

You don't buy the game for the promo card.... It's just an added bonus.  The game is more than worth the money.  I always get my money's worth and then some with the duels games
I'm not sure what they mean by "participating stores". I'm thinking nobody in my city is going to have the boosters, because I have no idea who would participate.
Captain's Call has art that reminds me of The Elder Scrolls.

Any store that runs FNMs will most likely have these boosters. At least, that's the case as far as I can tell.

Had to laugh at the Jurassic Park T-rex head photoshopped on the Viashino body on that one M13 booster.

Lol. Well done Wizards. Well done.
My immediate reaction is, "Wow, those boosters look ugly."
Looks like Liliana had a really tough time fighting Garruk and the monsters in the Innistrad cycle.  She needs some serious R&R.  And lots of food.

Ajani, on the other hand, has bulked up.  Either that or he's got new imposing armor.

How much do they l;et you customise your deck? can you take cards out? Was duels 2 plagued with 1 must play deck like the 1st ame was (elf warriors)?
Not only are the intro pack rares sweet, but getting 2 packs now is amazing.  Can only hope/assume this will continue.
That is a lot of black and grey. Like, too much. Just... wow.

Nicol Bolas is very avaricious. Not only does it look like he will be the only multicolored card in the set, it looks like he is taking the color out of everything else.
I wonder of we're going to get price gouged for the green deck at various retailers. I'm glad I have 2 alternate non-gaming stores to pick up Intro Packs/Planechase and such at.

those are the most ugly boosters/fatpacks I can remember..

I was disappointed to see the mono colored planeswalkers spoiled.  I was hoping they would finally make the other elder dragon legends planeswalkers or even 4 new 3 color planeswalkers for us.  Ah well the set is still looking great and I'm looking forwardd to it
Shapping up to be the best core set I've seen. Love the legendary intro packs. The pack design is great, too. Very styllish, very cool. And the Intro Packs tell you what you're getting now, which is the right move. But there is an eclipse lining-- where are the Intros' pack colors?
Fun: Budget commander decks.
So are they printing the fat packs in black and white to save money?
The new intro packs look stellar though, extra boosters are always nice, although you are gonna be paying more for them.
Yes, and since boosters in this game are a waste of money...

OMG click HERE! OMG! How to autocard and use decklist format
--->
For autocarding, write [c][/c] with the name of the card inside it. [c]Island[/c] = Island For linking a card to Gatherer without writting the name of said card for readers, use the autocard brackets together with and equal sign and right the name of the real card. Then put the message you want inside the tags, like you would do with autocarding. Like this: [c=Curse of the Cabal]Captain Never-resolves[/c] = Captain Never-resolves For using the decklist format, follow this: [deck] 4* Terramorphic Expanse 4* Evolving Wilds ... [/deck] It equals:

I like storm crow because I really like crows in real life, as an animal, and the card isn't terribly stupid, but packs a good deal of nostalgia and also a chunck of the game's history. So it's perhaps one of the cards I have most affection to, but not because "lol storm crow is bad hurr hurr durr".

Oh, it's a brilliant plan. You see, Bolas was travelling through shadowmoor, causing trouble, when he saw a Wickerbough Elder with its stylin' dead scarecrow hat. Now, Bolas being Bolas took the awesome hat and he put it on his head, but even with all his titanic powers of magic he couldn't make it fit. He grabbed some more scarecrows, but then a little kithkin girl asked if he was trying to build a toupee. "BY ALL THE POWERS IN THE MULTIVERSE!" he roared, "I WILL HAVE A HAT WORTHY OF MY GLORY." and so he went through his Dark Lore of Doom (tm) looking for something he could make into a hat that would look as stylish on him as a scarecrow does on a treefolk. He thought about the Phyrexians, but they were covered in goopy oil that would make his nonexistant hair greasy. He Tried out angels for a while but they didn't sit quite right. Then, he looked under "e" (because in the Elder Draconic alphabet, "e" for Eldrazi is right next to "h" for Hat) in his Dark Lore of Doom and saw depictions of the Eldrazi, and all their forms. "THIS SHALL BE MY HAT!" he declared, poking a picture of Emrakul, "AND WITH IT I WILL USHER IN A NEW AGE OF DARKNESS -- ER, I MEAN A NEW AGE OF FASHION!" And so Nicol Bolas masterminded the release of the Eldrazi.

Why would a petrified creature be able to do anything but be a block of stone?  Every game, movie, myth, legend, whatever all tell me, petrification makes you a block of stone.  Whats next, a card called Brick: 0/15 defender?  Petrification should make them unable to do anything unless "healed".

Ive also noticed M13 seems to have a lot of art Inn. style.  I like it.

I'll agree with that flavor. You shouldn't be able to block with a block of stone :/.
Brick with Doran seems overpowered! 15 power! :P

Anyway: Jay! Finaly nice promo's again for gamedays!
