The flip side of the Mythic Rare land, this thread is to attempt to create "basic" (you can have any number of these in your deck) non-land cards at Common or Uncommon. Such as!

Huh.  Didn't know that existed.  Though it's not strictly worse, since it's an instant and is the number plus 2.  That said, I'll bump it up to 1RR, analogous to Relentless Rats.
Interdict
Basic Instant [Uncommon]

Counter target spell unless its controller pays , where X is 1 plus the number of cards named Interdict in your graveyard.

Cheers, vlord.

Edit: Ummm... changed so it isn't so broken...
Is that card supposed to do anything outside of going infinite with another copy of it?

The first one might be broken. Compared to Wild Mongrel, you can only discard other copies of itself and the Legendary status makes it more difficult to ply many of these while getting other copies out. It could use an activation cost, but I think there's a ton of room for testing it's power. And the second one has a single typo, and one that obviously came from a name change.

Gosh, you're snarky today. :P

A good basic card will use its basicness to impact its play, but it's much too easy and boring to just be self-referential.

Sharpened Stick [X]
Basic Artifact
Sharpened Stick enters the battlefield with X charge counter on it.
When Sharpened Stick enters the battlefield, it deals damage to target player equal to the charge counters on it.
You can't play spells with converted mana cost equal to the number of charge counters on Sharpened Stick.

Steam Elemental     :ur::ur:

Defender

Steam Elemental can block any number of non-flying creatures.

Whenever Steam Elemental blocks, it gets +X/+0, where X is the total number of creatures attacking.

Attacking creatures that are blocked by Steam Elemental get -X/-0 until end of turn, where X is the total number of creatures attacking.

Khans of Tarkir Clan Quiz
After three iterations of taking the quiz, it says each time that I'm Temur, the clan. Which is funny because the dual-color tests still yield the same two results as before.

I am both selfish and instinctive. I value growth and community, as long as they favour my own objectives; I enjoy nature, and I particularly enjoy watching parts of nature die. At best, I am resilient and tenacious; at worst, I'm uncontrollable and destructive.

Oh, but wait, there were multiple answers that fit my thoughts to some questions. What colors did they say I was?

two metalmonger cost .  two memnite cost .

Best thing to do with metalmonger is to start with leyline of anticipation, then drop your 4-5 metalmongers on the stack.  Fist turn 5x 5/5s isn't too bad.

two metalmonger cost .  two memnite cost .

Two metalmongers are four power worth of creature while two memnites are only two power worth of creaure.

@mikemearls The office is basically empty this week, which opens up all sorts of possibilities for low shenanigans

@mikemearls In essence, all those arguments I lost are being unlost. Won, if you will. We're doing it MY way, baby.

@biotech66 aren't you the boss anyway? isn't "DO IT OR I FIRE YOU!" still an option?

@mikemearls I think Perkins would throat punch me if I ever tried that. And I'd give him a glowing quarterly review for it.

I was actually thinking the way to go with it would be to use Infinite Reflection to cast some big creature your opponent controls for essentially or Alchemist's Refuge to drop four or five at the end of your opponent's turn.

Yeah... might be a little broken.   maybe?
