Our health was at 3
Our opponents health was at 6

It was our opponents turn. (Exnames. Bob and jim) Bob plays Kalitas, Bloodchief of Ghet
We want to use Peel from Reality to return it to his hand.
However Jim want to equip Sword of Vengeance to Kalitas, Bloodchief of Ghet and then use its ability to destroy my 7/16 and put out a 7/16 token on the field. Jim wants to then equip his Sword of Vengeance to the 7/16 copy so Bob can attack and win the game.

Can they actually do this? please explain as clear as possible. Thanks!

Edit: I forgot how to make the cards with the [c] thing.. ill edit it in a second

Edit: Its fixed

Another Edit: We won next turn and, If they can do this, is there a way for us to use Peel from Reality to win the game?
If you control a creature and can cast Peel from Reality, you have plenty of opportunities to stop him here.  What was your opp's reasoning for why you couldn't use Peel from Reality?

They said that everything they did worked as an instant and that they could do everything before our peel from reality triggered.
it doesn't quite work this way

they cannot equip the sword in response to Peel from Reality (unless they can)

but they keep priority after Kalitas entered the battlefield to equip.
however, you can respond to the equip with Peel from Reality and achieve the result you want.

so both sides played wrong, your opponents played more wrong ;)

If Bob cast Kalitas, then he controls him. Jim cannot equip his sword, because he doesn't control Kalitas. Each player in a team still only controls his own permanents and not those of their teammates.

They claim that as my teamate was tapping his mana they equipped it and used its ability because they were moving fast...
Magic is not a game of reflexes
it follows strict rules or priority and timing

furthermore, mana abilities cannot be responded to.

Even if they found a way to be able to equip at instant speed, it's only possible to equip your own creatures. Jim can't use the equip ability on his Sword of Vengeance or any other equipment he controls to attach it to his partner's creatures.

Mana abilities don't use the stack, so they can't respond to you tapping your mana, although it's fine to respond to Peel from Reality.
Jim cannot equip his Sword of Vengeance to Bob's creature. You must target a creature you control.

Besides that, this is what would happen. The sword's equip ability is activated targeting Kalitas, Bloodchief of Ghet. In response you cast Peel from Reality. Peel from Reality resolves first and returns Kalitas. Kalitas never becomes equiped and never gets the chance to activate its ability.

The equip ability of Sword of Vengeance cannot be activated in response to Peel from Reality. You can activate the equip ability only any time you could cast a sorcery.
