This will be a three-round contest, with each round lasting approximately a day (or more, depending on participation). For best chances at winning, participation in each round is encouraged, but you may still submit cards for fun/comments even if you anticipate not being able to make the other rounds. Once a round is closed, no further submissions for that round will be accepted. Type of scoring will vary by round, and totals will only be annouced at the end of the contest.

Round 1 - Introduction: Create a common card that is a good mechanical and/or flavorful introduction to the set it comes from.Round Closed.

Thanks, vlord.
Tawhil Landshaper --
Creature - Human Druid
When Tawhil Landshaper enters play, target land you control becomes a basic land type of your choice and loses all other abilities.  (Land types are Forest, Island, Mountain, Plains, and Swamp.)
1/1
Starving Bear
Creature - Bear (C)
Abstain: ~ gets +2/+2 until end of turn. (To abstain, give up a land play you could make this turn.)
The bear wandered the fallow landscape it called home, but found no reprieve from its hunger. Its rage turned to madness.
2/2

Notes on Abstain:
- A player may decide to abstain at any time, as long as he could play a land that turn. (So generally, though not explicitly, only on his own turn). One he does, he uses up that land drop for that turn.
- Abstaining once satisfies only a single instance of "abstain" in a cost. For example, if a player controlled two bears, he could give up a land drop to pump one of them.
- If a player can play multiple lands (with Explore for example), he may give up each of them to abstain an additional time, or combine abstaining and land drops, as long as he doesn't exceed his lands-played-per-turn limit.
- Abstaining doesn't care if you actually have any lands in your hand or not, just if you could play a land.
Daring Rescue

Enchantment

Soulmark - When an opponent sacrifices
a creature, you may sacrifice this.  If you
do, put that creature onto the battlefield
under your control.

The alarms and screams echoed from the
Temple of Nacalatl.  The tribute had vanished,
and with her had gone the promise of dawn.
From my Sankora set:

Creep Crawler
Creature - Fungus
Seed (This creature deals damage to creatures in the form of fungus counters.)
2/1

@mikemearls The office is basically empty this week, which opens up all sorts of possibilities for low shenanigans

@mikemearls In essence, all those arguments I lost are being unlost. Won, if you will. We're doing it MY way, baby.

@biotech66 aren't you the boss anyway? isn't "DO IT OR I FIRE YOU!" still an option?

@mikemearls I think Perkins would throat punch me if I ever tried that. And I'd give him a glowing quarterly review for it.

Kalla's Screamer
Creature - Illusion Horror [Common]
Flash, Discorporate (: Exile this card from your hand)
When Kalla's Screamer enters the battlefield or is exiled from anywhere, return target creature to its owner's hand.

That's what RPJesus tends to do. That's why I don't think he's a real person, but some Magic Card Archive Server sort of machine, that is programmed to react to other posters' comments with obscure cards that do in fact exist, but somehow missed by even the most experienced Magic players. And then come up with strange combos with said cards. All of that is impossible for a normal human to do given the amount of time he does it and how often he does it. He/It got me with Light of Sanction, which prompted me to go to RQ&A to try and find if it was even possible to do combat damage to a creature I control (in light that Mark of Asylum exists).

HOW DID I NOT KNOW ABOUT THE BEAR PRODUCING WORDS OF WILDING?! WHAT IS WRONG WITH ME?!

Blue players get all the overpowerered cards like JTMS. I think it's time that wizards gave something to people who remember what magic is really about: creatures.
Initially yes, Wizards was married to blue. However, about a decade ago they had a nasty divorce, and a few years after that they began courting the attention of Green. Then in Worldwake they had a nasty affair with their ex, but as of Innistrad, things seem to have gotten back on track, and Wizards has even proposed.
You are my favorite. Yes you. And moments like this make it so. Thank you RPJesus for just being you.

I'm both selfish and rational. I'm scheming, secretive and manipulative; I use knowledge as a tool for personal gain, and in turn obtaining more knowledge. At best, I am mysterious and stealthy; at worst, I am distrustful and opportunistic.
I'll try leaving this round open for another day, see if we can't get some more entries in here.

Perfect originality is overrated and often ugly. The best and most beautiful cards I've ever seen were clearly inspired by something else. Cards are not entirely unlike living organisms in this regard. All the good ones are a result of long evolution; the 'original' ones are either monocellular or mutant aberrations.

The weird part is reaching over the table, grabbing a card from their hand, and just staring slowly back at them, awkwardly, as you slide their voice of resurgence slowly into your pants.

Graveborn are strictly better than Zombies. I mean, look at that wicked beard. You try growing that when your dead. And I know aging fellows who are suffering from Male Pattern Baldness, who would kill for a Mop like Ribsy's over there.

That's better. Round 2 closed!

Final Round - Climax: Create a finisher, 'build-around-me', or deck centerpiece card.
Cards will be given between 0 and 5 points. One extra point will be given if I deem it your best design of the contest.
Target end date: Night of Tuesday, May 8th (going to go ahead and give this 2 days right from the get-go)Wednesday, May 9th.

This is a fairly loose criteria, I'm sure you all can come up with something appropiate.
