Still No Zombies or Vampires... Seriously?

You think that Sorin Grandfather is all pissy about his legacy going down the drain here.
Hell even Gisa, and Geralf are probably throwing some sort of child fit and are at least attempting
to fight back against the light.

Not a single Zombie or Vampire.
They're there.
They just haven't been spoiled yet because they were the theme of the previous sets.
This is all about the humans and Angels fighting against the demons. That's what this set is about, so everything else has to take a backseat.

But we've seen cards leaked from elsewhere that show some numbers of the missing creatures.
There definitly are vampire and zombie cards, but they all seem to be commons or uncommons. The black rare creatures are all demons so far, so not sure you'll get any sweet rare vampires or zombies.

But this is the Angels (vs Demons) set.

Unofficial spoilers have shown a good number of zombies and at least one vampire I can remember.  and one card has a quote by Olivia Voladren in the flavor text, so at least one big-time vampire is still undead and kicking.

"Enjoy your screams, Sarpadia - they will soon be muffled beneath snow and ice."

That a slight relief... Red and Black is all good for mechanic wise, but I was getting worry about
the flavor of the undead and made a sad face when I saw the spoilers lol.
This... really isn't about the flavor or storyline, is it?

The answer is no, no it is not.

Also, will people please calm the hell down? First it was people complaining about no wolfir, now it's people complaining about no zombies. Give it time. Seriously.

Can we complain about the thing being badly written with stuff like locking a village in ones (aristocratically large) basement for safety, Cathars who'd rather poledance than fight, having to mention the famous subterranean natural spring and Avacynian altar six times over in a single paragraph, Avacyn's eldritch transformation, the Spanish Inquisition, or *shudder* mage-cathars being mistrusted by the rest?

There has to be at least one more awesome zombie for my army in this set. Or I'm going to cry bitter tears of rage and disappointment. Demons are cool and all, but they don't hold a candle to zombies. And neither do angels.

Also, Angel of Glory's Rise seems hilariously insulting. The first thing I thought when I saw it was, "Oh, **** you." It's just a backwards and better version of Zombie Apocalypse. Which should have been left alone because it is a perfect card.

It would have been, if the zombies win.

But they don't.

I suspect that that's part of Engine's fundamental problem here, actually... ;)

Can we not start crap like this before the full set is spoiled?
I counted five zombies and two vampires on the MTGSalvation spoiler. From 229 nonbasic cards, they have 137 listed, about 60% of the set. Let's just wait, ok?

I wonder if the reason people are getting upset is that they're seeing their favourite weapons being taken and used against them.

You have wild rampaging werewolves? Well guess what, we took them and turned them into holy warriors of vengenace.

You can cast Zombie Apocalypse? We can cast Angel of Glory's Rise which does the oppisite but even better.

Did the Phyrexians turning Mirrodin's weapons against upset this many players? I didn't notice it as much.

I'd say this would be a good thing, if I could be sure it was intentional. Letting people actually experience the story, through game mechanics is great, So if people are getting upset, despite the fact that the cards are perfectly reasonable design-wise, I'm willing to say it's a good thing.

I have heard nothing of Gisa or Geralfs since their attack on Tharaben. They could've at least got a quick death like Mr Grisel.

We just learned today what happened to Garruk. The spoiler season is not over yet; certainly new bits of story will be revealed this week and in the next two.

Thought this post was relevant (from the web article forum)

Just re-read the column and I think they've either messed up on the timings or glossed over just how long Garruk was a raving madman:

Garruk fights Liliana;
Liliana leaves him for dead;
Garruk fights off the ghouls then goes mad;
Avacyn issues the cursemute to transform the werewolves into Wolfir;
The cursemute cures Garruk briefly;
He decides whether to pursue Liliana to Thraben,where she's gone to break the Helvault, to release Avacyn, who issues the cursemute, which has already happened because that's how he got cured. Hang on...

The only explanation is that the line: "He wandered in blind circles, shouting at the ravens and imagined monsters" encompasses the entire period of time from Liliana going off and finding Geralf, through the attack on Thraben, the unhallowing of Mikaeus, Liliana's ultimatum to Thalia and the breaking of the Helvault, and the culling of the werewolves around Gatstaf all the way to the appearance of Avacyn at the grotto.

It's not a broken timeline, but the way it's written is pretty close :/

Didn't even stop and wonder why the whole conflict scene felt like loose sand the first time I read it ..:/

Zombie Apocalypse, as a card, is better than any angel ever printed. By itself. It's perfect. Literally perfect, in flavor, design, effect, everything. It brings an old archetype into the game in a perfectly believable way. No angel in the game is as universally resonant. It should have been left alone. But then they decided that it would be a good idea to print a goddamn angel that does the exact same thing but backwards, more powerfully, and with a 4/6 flier stapled to it. For a single extra mana. This is bullshit. If my tribe keeps getting 1-upped I'm just going to haul off and kill somebody, eat their heart to gain their strength, and let the cycle continue until I've eaten everyone. Literally everyone. That includes you people. By the time I get to you you won't be able to stop me. I'll be too powerful from all the vitality I'll have absorbed.

I like the angel.  It's like, "Ha, I bet you thought you had zombies.  How silly of you."

It might also be because I like cards that mirror each other like that.  Zombies got Mikaeus the Unhallowed, which is pretty much the same deal from the Lunarch, so humans are really just getting even here.

You don't have the stones and nothing these guys have will give them to you.
And zombies are doomed to be one-upped these days. These aren't the days of Otaria where the zombie was king.

For almost all Magic fans, the "story" of Ravnica, for example, is that it's a city world with ten guilds -- yes, for most, that's a "story." Likewise, the vast majority of Magic players don't know who Harbin is, or Nivea, or Al-Hayat, or Feather, or Jared Carthalion, or Rebbec, or Zagorka ... the list goes on and on.

And one more thing...
CANON is the collected events and details of a fictional work that come directly from its author or someone with equal authority to the author. CANNON is a weapon that fires metal balls at a target, usually a structure or a crowd of enemy combatants. Every time you confuse the two, I'm forced to break one of my own fingers.
