Was reviewing my options for a black planeswalker and at first i debated Liliana Vess vs Liliana of the Veil but those two in themselves are incomparable simply because Vess isnt standard legal. Sorin Markov and Sorin, Lord of Innistrad are both standard legal and are both fairly powerful in their own right. I suppose Liliana is too, but Sorin seems to have a lot more usefulness throughout different stages of the fight, he builds loyalty faster, starts out with more counters and unbelievably, can drop an opponents health to 10 immediately upon gaining control of him. Liliana works a lot slower and more like "picking away" at you, it seems. So why such a steep difference in price between them? Both are usable in all major formats, and the only real advantage I can see in using Liliana is the huge casting cost difference. But is the casting cost really worth an extra 600-700% market value? While i enjoy the collectors aspect of the game, im not trying to build my deck out of pointlessly rare/expensive cards. Id rather put someone who I think is going to go to work for me. Are there any really good setups that can use Liliana in a combo type situation that would make using her a sound decision? Or should I stick with Sorin Markov?
