Royal Assassin Qustion

My opponent and I each have 1 creature. He has Royal Assassin and I have Scourge of Geier Reach . My opponent have 4 life points left, so I decide to atack. My opponent use the ability of the assassin and kills my Scourge. The question is does my Scourge deal 4 damage and finish him or my atack is in vain?
As soon as you attack, your creature will tap (unless you can give him vigilance). So he can kill your creature before you even have to declare blockers.
Any creature that isn't on the battlefield or in combat by the time the combat damage step starts, won't be able to assign and deal combat damage. The last chance to remove any creature is in the declare blockers step, after blockers have been declared. So even if you had another creature attacking, your opponent could block one attacker with the assassin and then destroy the other with his ability and he would not take any combat damage (unless the blocked attacker has trample or something similar). The Assassin would die, but also deal a point of damage to the blocked attacker, which could kill it as well.

I started up my next community draft in the limited forums. This time around the format is Zendikar/Worldwake/Rise of the Eldrazi. So if you like to draft, come by and share your thoughts.

CD2: General

My community draft experiment with DTK/DTK/FRF is concluded now. If you want to, you can check it out and maybe build some decks from the pools. I've already build my own take on that.

Once again aced the Rules Advisor test (Feb 2015). (I still make mistakes now and then, but who doesn't.)

"Simple questions" usually need rather complex answers, while complex questions often come down to no more than a simple "yes" or "no".

Note that if you were on 3 life and your opponent had an Inferno Titan, then your Royal Assassin would NOT be able to save you (by the time you can activate the Assassin's ability, the Titan's ability would already have triggered and would be waiting to resolve - which would happen even if you destroy the Titan).

Not bad. But what happens flavor wise when one kamahl kills the other one?

That makes no sense to me. If they spelled the ability out on the card in full then it would not be allowed in a mono-black Commander deck, but because they used a keyword to save space it is allowed? ~ Tim
Yup, just like you can have Birds of paradise in a mono green deck but not Noble Hierarch. YAY COLOR IDENTITY

I love this description. Like the cows are sponges filled with milk. I can see it all Nick Parks claymation-style with the cow's eyes bugging out momentarily as a giant farmer squeezes it like a squeaky dog toy, and milk shoots out of it.

I now have a new goal in life. ;)
Your attack is in vain.
