Just made this self mill deck a couple of days ago.  Wanted to see if anyone had any improvments that could be made to make the deck work better. It is pretty fun to play so far.  Thoughts and comments are appreciated.  Oh, and this is my first post on these forums and I apoligize in advance if I screw up the auto carding.

Laboratory Maniac x 4
Deranged Assistant X 4
Splinterfright x 4
Kessig Cagebreakers x 4
Boneyard Wurm x 4
Armored Skaab x 4

Increasing Confusion x 4
Gnaw to the Bone x 4
Dream Twist x 4
Mulch x 2

Forest x 9
Island x 9
Hinterland Harbor x 4

not very knowledgable on self mill decks, but you should be using less basic lands for a multi color deck. Try to cut you basic land count to 8 or less, to help prevent having all of one land type and none of another.

If you go the shards of Alara set and look for Seaside Citadel it should give you both Green and Blue mana, as well as some White for kicks. If you go the gatherer and look for blue/green lands, you should be able to find more.

forbidden alchemy and diplomatic immunity could help a great deal.

forbidden alchemy helps with milling and can filter out cards you don't need, while diplomatic immunity can protect your laboratory maniacs from doom blades and such.

I love this commander lands^^
@other commenters:
It seems obvious that this person is trying to build a deck for Block Constructed or Standard. Why suggest cards for other formats?
@GenericAwesomeName: Those lands are from Ravnica.

Okay, done ranting.
Assuming you're going for standard: play Viridian Emissary. That guy is amazing in this kind of deck.
Otherwise:
Add in 4x Spider Spawning. It's insane.
Add 2x Mulch. It's good setup.
Cut the Maniacs and the Increasing confusion. The maniacs don't do much; the confusion is too slow.
I would also advise splashing black for Nephalia Drownyard and flashback on spider spawning.

Other notes:
Ambush Viper is good. You may want to add some.
Forbidden Alchemy is too slow. You need defense on turn 3, or a threat. Going setup, setup, setup is a recipie for disaster.

My initial responses to rules questions are usually just answers. If you want an explanation as to why, say so. Just because it says I'm there, I'm not necessarily there. I leave my browser open so I don't have to reload ~30 tabs. Anyone who wants to text duel me through either PM or chat can just PM me with a format (and a time if playing through chat). I don't play standard.

Winning is not important if: 1. You win by a blowout. 2. You pay billions of dollars in cards to win. If you like wasting money just to win one game, while you could have saved it to lose a few and end up winning more in the future, then it is fine by me.
what? do you ceremonially light your deck on fire after a win?

I don't think there are any cards like that. There are things that prevent you from activating activated abilities, things that increase their cost, and things that counter them, but I don't think anything triggers from them specifically. There are things that trigger from targeting, so that might be relevant, but I can't think of anything that triggers from targeting a player. I'm almost positive there's nothing that triggers from damage being prevented.

Well played.

Thanks for all the responses, and yes the deck is for Standard, I kind of forgot to say that.   I will definitely be splashing black for Spider Spawning.  I completly forgot about that card.
If your aiming for the Maniac to be the win-con, you will need some sort of tutor for it, whether from the g/y or from play. also the suggested hexproof is a good idea. i personally like swiftfoot boots

If you are just going for big hits with your */* cards, then again some tutoring would be favorable, but i think all tutoring in Standard is black
Edit: use reclaim

Lastly - try to squeeze in Jace, memory adept for good milling

Tracker's Instincts can help find that Maniac before he hits the graveyard, while still filling your g/y. It also costs less than Forbidden Alchemy to cast and flashback in exchange for being sorcery speed. If you want to tutor for the */* fatties, try Green Sun's Zenith. Doesn't work with maniac though.

If you can afford it, drop the Deranged Assistants for Birds of Paradise. They help with the black mana and you won't miss the one milled card per turn.

Not really. You have 12 creatures (Wurms, Splinters, Cagebreakers), plus 4 spawnings. You'll have gas.
Edit: use reclaim

Noxious Revival is strictly better.

Well played.

Well thanks for all the responses.  Looks like I have some things to consider here.  I'll post a new deck list once I throw it together.
Updated Deck

Splinterfright x 4
Kessig Cagebreakers x 4
Boneyard Wurm x 4
Armored Skaab x 4
Birds of Paradise x 4
Ambush Viper x 4

Gnaw to the Bone x 4
Dream Twist x 4
Spider Spawning x 4
Tracker's Instincts x 4

Island x 4
Forest x 6
Hinterland Harbor x 4
Woodland Cemetery x 4
Nephalia Drownyard x 2

The only concern that I have with this deck is that it might not mill myself enough.  Thoughts?
