This thread is for discussion of this week's Savor the Flavor, which goes live Wednesday morning on magicthegathering.com.
But I thought that the werewolf curse wasn't transmitted through bites...
Man this was AWESOME. It brought me back to the days when reading a Lonewolf book was my favourite past-time. I miss game books!

Thank you for this article Mr Beyer, I greatly enjoyed it. I died the first time but then I realized I need to trigger Fatefoul Hour... nice!

P.S.: in the "win" page, you say 'endings'... are there more than one? I tried various branchings but I always get the Bar the Door one.

@Fenix

The World Ends With You is a fantastic game.
@Fenix

There's another ending if you reach Thraben without fateful hour (i.e. have more than 5 life).  I won't spoil what happens, but you have to pick options A, B, A, C, A.
@Fenix

I can't find any other endings, also, The World Ends With You is a fantastic game.

It's one of my favourite games ever :].

Ohhhh... that's cool. Thank you for the tip.

This was pretty cool!
Magic Judge Quis custodiet ipsos custodes? Rules Theory and Templating: "They may be crazy, but they're good." --Matt Tabak, Rules Manager*
Very cool.

The first few times, I died horribly.  But in doing so, I figured out which way was "safest", which then brought me to the bad ending.  It was only after that that I got the good (well, as good as can be) ending.
That was the best savour the flavour article ever, I managed to reach the gates of Thraben first time with only 1 life remaining!
This was pretty cool!
Made it with one life left! Can I get credit for a Near-Death Experience?
Fantastic article. That was fun. : )
Regarding the "bad" non-fateful-hour ending...
I had never noticed the Werewolf impaled on the wall in Gather the Townsfolk before... Damn Innistrad, you dark!
What is the worst you can make ?

 C. A. C. A . B

End at -2

 But no turning undead at least...

 But in the "Wolf turn" path there is some error

 A no life loss -> 20
 B two life loss -> 18
 A  3 life loss -> 15
C 4 life loss -> 11
 A  7 life loss -> 6 ???  11-7 = 6 ??

 It should be 4 and you couldn't reach the wolf turn final, for it to work it must be 5 life loss instead.

Fun!  I survived the first time with 3 life.

Another great game with multiple endings depending on your choices, although not Magic-related, is "Nine Hours, Nine Persons, Nine Doors," aka "999."

Thanks for noticing this and pointing it out. I made a mistake in marking up the article. Instead of saying "You lose 7 life," it is supposed to read "You lose 5 life as you thrash around and stumble and make your wounds even worse." I've updated the article with this correction made.

999 is an amazing game I loved how the story includes a bit about how Junpei "knows" stuff but doesn't know why or how he got that info, but only if the player discovered that info in another play through. It's neat how they linked the experience the player had with the experience the character had.

I really enjoyed that if you make the "best" (lowest life lost) decisions throughout the story, that you end up losing. Its fun when the concept of winning / losing is tweaked ever so slightly to not fall squarely within your expectations. Thanks!
Wonderful column/game!  I certainly hope for more of this!
<3 Choose your Own Adventure

I "won" with 1 life on my first try  then went through a few more times.  Excellent work making different options depending on whether you were below 5 life or not.
I love how if you go balls to the wall Rambo in the first 3 scenarios you will trigger fateful hour which will see you to the best ending with the highest possible life. Fortune favors the bold!
That was extremely fun. Reminds me of the Shadowmoor game that was similar to this.
I love this kind of stuff.
OMG click HERE! OMG! How to autocard and use decklist format
--->
For autocarding, write [c][/c] with the name of the card inside it. [c]Island[/c] = Island For linking a card to Gatherer without writting the name of said card for readers, use the autocard brackets together with and equal sign and right the name of the real card. Then put the message you want inside the tags, like you would do with autocarding. Like this: [c=Curse of the Cabal]Captain Never-resolves[/c] = Captain Never-resolves For using the decklist format, follow this: [deck] 4* Terramorphic Expanse 4* Evolving Wilds ... [/deck] It equals:

I like storm crow because I really like crows in real life, as an animal, and the card isn't terribly stupid, but packs a good deal of nostalgia and also a chunck of the game's history. So it's perhaps one of the cards I have most affection to, but not because "lol storm crow is bad hurr hurr durr".

Now, now. 1994 doesn't quite qualify as "ancient".

Oh, it's a brilliant plan. You see, Bolas was travelling through shadowmoor, causing trouble, when he saw a Wickerbough Elder with its stylin' dead scarecrow hat. Now, Bolas being Bolas took the awesome hat and he put it on his head, but even with all his titanic powers of magic he couldn't make it fit. He grabbed some more scarecrows, but then a little kithkin girl asked if he was trying to build a toupee. "BY ALL THE POWERS IN THE MULTIVERSE!" he roared, "I WILL HAVE A HAT WORTHY OF MY GLORY." and so he went through his Dark Lore of Doom (tm) looking for something he could make into a hat that would look as stylish on him as a scarecrow does on a treefolk. He thought about the Phyrexians, but they were covered in goopy oil that would make his nonexistant hair greasy. He Tried out angels for a while but they didn't sit quite right. Then, he looked under "e" (because in the Elder Draconic alphabet, "e" for Eldrazi is right next to "h" for Hat) in his Dark Lore of Doom and saw depictions of the Eldrazi, and all their forms. "THIS SHALL BE MY HAT!" he declared, poking a picture of Emrakul, "AND WITH IT I WILL USHER IN A NEW AGE OF DARKNESS -- ER, I MEAN A NEW AGE OF FASHION!" And so Nicol Bolas masterminded the release of the Eldrazi.

Absolutely. I used to loose to my buddy's Banding deck for ages, it was then that I found out about Tolaria, and I was finally able win my first game.

Normally it's difficult to pick up on your jokes/sarcasm. But this one's pretty much out there. Good progress. You have moved up to Humanoid. You'll be Human in no time.

This was fun and I felt kind of cool about "remembering my honour" at the end ;D
I liked this very much!  I died the first time, but allowed my horse to be eaten by the spider the second time and "remembered my honour" in the end.  Really liked this!  See WotC there are people that still love the lore!
