This thread is for discussion of this week's Draft Simulator, which goes live Monday morning on magicthegathering.com.

I love drafts where you're the only person in a color.  Wow.

"Go, then. There are other worlds than these." -- Stephen King, The Gunslinger

Please feel free to copy this message into your sig.

U/W has a lot of bombs.  You can get Serra Angel, Mind Control, Djinn of Wishes, and Gideon's Avenger, in addition to Pacifism, Gideon's Lawkeeper, Merfolk Looter, Jace's Archivist, etc..  Seems good.
Bleh... Ended up with a pretty versatile mediocre set. Ended up RG, must of the blue were just hate drafts.

Round 1:
Shock
Manic Vandal
Merfolk Looter
Manalith
Arachnus Web
Goblin Arsonist
Llanowar Elves
Fog
Reclaim
Runeclaw Bear
Cancel
Unsummon
Coral Merfolk
Lure
Island

Man, a pick 1 shock felt like I was off to a great start. Rest of the picks in this round were pretty slim, but then most of the computers were drafting red as well. The Arachnus Web was the only other thing this round to celebrate. A couple of hate-drafted blue control spells, though, so I count it a victory.

Round 2:
Act of Treason
Hunter's Insight
Garruk's Companion
Titanic Growth
Mana Leak
Titanic Growth
Goblin Arsonist
Rampant Growth
Reclaim
Unsummon
Fiery Hellhound
Manabarbs
Firebreathing
Wurm's Tooth
Mountain

Here's where I felt I picked up speed with my deck. The Companion, coupled with the two Titanics, pretty much cemented my RG focus. Also hate-drafted a few more control elements, as well as some absolute garbage as well.

Round 3:
Shock
Lightning Elemental
Gorehorn Minotaurs
Lurking Crocodile
Garruk's Companion
Goblin Piker
Titanic Growth
Lurking Crocodile
Llanowar Elves
Fog
Runeclaw Bear
Merfolk Mesmerist
Angel's Mercy
Reclaim
Plains

Hell yeah, RG! Another shock, another Titanic, and some bloodthirst beaters rounded out my draft nicely. Also, my baby Croc. I think he is the most underrated card in Limited. A 2/2 with Bloodthirst 1 plops down well into my 3-slot, but the islandwalk is merciless. Blue is a pretty common splash color, and he can always be subbed out for a vanilla beater against the occasional blue-hating deck.
All in all, I feel this draft could have gone better. Since the other ****s at the table took the really beefy red dragons, I got left with the thalidomide children of the litter. WG or even mono white may have been a better choice, but this deck would go down swinging.

Round 1:
Spirit Mantle

Mono Blue Delver in Legacy

Garrin, The Valiant, Noble Cleric of Heironeous

After doing about 8 builds four of which I posted above I have come to the conclusion green and blue are by far the strongest cards in the draft (Djinn of wishes mind control AND carnage wurm!) of course there were some very nice cards in the other sets all the other drafters pulled mythics which was annoying, I noticed a tendancy of the computer to pass up really really good rares and uncommons. Mind control is almost always a month imho

Had a hard time picking my colors, was going to go G/W until I picked up mind control in pack3 pick 1.
I could probably go back and force G/U from the get-go and have a much better deck, but I feel like I made the correct choices for the first time around:

My Picks

Round 1:
Jade Mage I like this more than burn.  She's a one-woman-and-many-saprolings-army.
Crimson Mage Nothing special here.
Sorin's Thirstremoval
Pacifism removal
Arachnus Web removal
Goblin Arsonist burning goblin, debated snagging the trollhide.
Llanowar Elves mana dork
Auramancer get back my web and my pacifism
Spirit Mantle finisher
Griffin Sentinel flier
Firebreathing meh.
Firebreathing meh.
Coral Merfolk meh.
Lure sure.
Island whatevs.

Round 2:
Djinn of Wishes  can't pass the flying bomb.
Stonehorn Dignitary ignored the archivist b/c I didn't think I was in blue.
Acidic Slime oh yes.
Titanic Growth boom.
Benalish Veteran need cheap critters.
Titanic Growth boom
Phantasmal Bear if I'm forced to splash blue...
Rampant Growth I need this.  badly.
Pride Guardian need creatures.
Amphin Cutthroat need creatures.
Titanic Growth boom.
Manabarbs whatevs.
Flight whatevs.
Wurm's Tooth whatevs
Mountainwhatevs

Round 3:
Mind Control okay maybe, I'll play blue.
Carnage Wurm ...aaaand stay green.
Llanowar Elves mana dork.
Elvish Archdruid larger mana dork.
Ice Cage removal.  Maybe I should'v taken the companion.  I dunno.
Ice Cage removal again.
Coral Merfolk need creatures.
Manalith mana fixing.
Llanowar Elves mana dork.
Ice Cage removal.
Levitation win condition.
Merfolk Mesmerist creature
Angel's Mercy whatevs.
Reclaim whatevs.
Plains whatevs.

Ended up G/U/w just to fill out my creature curve a little.  Decided to go just 16 lands b/c I have lots of ramp.

From Mark Rosewater's Tumblr: the0uroboros asked: How in the same set can we have a hexproof, unsacrificable(not a word) creature AND a land that makes it uncounterable. How does this lead to interactive play? I believe I’m able to play my creature and you have to deal with it is much more interactive than you counter my creature.

MaRo: One of the classic R&D stories happened during a Scars of Mirrodin draft. Erik Lauer was sitting to my right (meaning that he passed to me in the first and third packs). At the end of the draft, Erik was upset because I was in his colors (black-green). He said, "Didn't you see the signals? I went into black-green in pack one." I replied, "Didn't you see my signals? I started drafting infect six drafts ago."

MaRo: I redesigned him while the effect was on the stack.

I went with U/W control, because Pacifism and Mind Control with Auramancer is just too good to pass up. Running quite a few enchantments for the Auramancer to find: Flight, Spirit Mantle, Pacifism x 2, Mind Control, and Ice Cage. Throwing in some green to also run two of Acidic Slime and the Carnage Wurm. Running two of Ponder to help find the cards that will allow me to drop one of my bombs. I would love to see an end-game where I draw out the opponent's removal spell against my bomb. And on my next turn, I mind control their giant dragon/vampire/minotaur and bash away for the win. Good times!

Well, the wheels fell off on that draft!

I first-picked the Minotaurs and tried to get some bloodthirst action going, but pack one ended up pretty bad.  Red really wasn't doing much, but neither was green.

I decided to grab the Djinn pack two, pick two, in case I had to switch to blue.  Two Titanic Growths and a Rampant Growth solidified green, but things were looking a little bleak.

The Mind Control in pack three was great and I followed it up with a Carnage Wurm.

I ended up with a UGw deck with only ten creatures, but some decent tricks.  All of my removal is enchantment-based.  I really don't think the deck is any good, but with good draws and some luck, you might muddle through.  I think I'll try again without first-picking the Minotaurs.

Green white is pretty awesome, opportunity for 5 stonehorn dignitaries and 3 spirit mantles, a bunch of auramancers and pacifism along with all the flying support and mana ramp.  worth it.
I guess once I start going in one direction I stick to it, but green did throw out some nice bait to pull me out of a massive U/W control deck.  I have so much control, not sure you will have enough creatures to deal with me.
