This thread is for discussion of this week's Sealed Deck Builder, which goes live Thursday morning on magicthegathering.com.

I'm proud to present a project that I've been working on for quite some time. It's a practice tool for building Sealed Decks from six booster packs, like you do at Prereleases. I hope you like using it, and I look forward to any feedback you might have about it. And of course, I look forward to seeing what decks you've built with this week's pool!

Total Deck Size: 41
18 Lands
---------------
9 Island
8 Swamp
1 Shimmering Grotto

11 Creatures
---------------
1 Black Cat
1 Diregraf Captain
1 Ghoulraiser
1 Highborn Ghoul
1 Rotting Fensnake
1 Screeching Skaab
1 Stitched Drake
1 Stormbound Geist
1 Vampire Interloper
1 Vengeful Vampire
1 Walking Corpse

11 Other Spells
---------------
1 Counterlash
1 Divination
1 Grasp of Phantoms
1 Increasing Confusion
1 Mask of Avacyn
1 Sensory Deprivation
1 Skeletal Grimace
1 Think Twice
1 Thought Scour
1 Trepanation Blade
1 Undying Evil

The captains had me torn between U/B Zombies and R/B Vampires (2 Fires of Undeath was hard to pass up). What really pushed me into the Zombies was Increasing Confusion. It seems kind of game winning in limited.

Total Deck Size: 42
18 Lands
---------------
6 Forest
10 Mountain
1 Swamp
1 Shimmering Grotto

17 Creatures
---------------
1 Avacyn's Pilgrim
2 Briarpack Alpha
1 Crossway Vampire
1 Daybreak Ranger

1 Huntmaster of the Fells
1 Instigator Gang
2 Nearheath Stalker
1 Rage Thrower
1 Rakish Heir
1 Somberwald Spider
1 Stromkirk Captain
1 Ulvenwald Mystics

6 Other Spells
---------------
2 Fires of Undeath
1 Fling
1 Increasing Ambition
1 Spidery Grasp
1 Traveler's Amulet

I like increasing ambition in this list because it lets you grab any of your bombs (huntsmaster, gang, a lord, etc) and does not muck up your mana too much. You get to play 6 non-captain vampires, which is enough I think to make the captain ok, even though he might be a 2/2 first strike some of the time. You do get to play double fires, though you only have three sources of black to flash it back. Fling is there because our guys get fairly large, and spidery grasp can save a guy from removal or help us block fliers. I'm not sure how good the nearheath stalkers are, but a 5/2 first strike who might become 6/3 was too good to pass up.

8 Forest
2 Mountain
6 Plains
1 Shimmering Grotto

16 Creatures

1 Avacyn's Pilgrim

1 Hollowhenge Spirit
1 Huntmaster of the Fells
1 Instigator Gang
1 Mausoleum Guard
1 Midnight Guard
1 Nearheath Stalker
1 Niblis of the Urn
1 Somberwald Dryad
1 Somberwald Spider
1 Ulvenwald Mystics

7 Other Spells
---------------
1 Burden of Guilt
1 Crushing Vines
1 Mask of Avacyn
1 Smite the Monstrous
1 Spidery Grasp
1 Traveler's Amulet
1 Trepanation Blade

The basic gameplan here is to have beefy green creatures as the main color (+some surprise removal), then use white for evasion creatures and removal. I splashed red for the amazing, can't say no to creatures. Since we had both travellers amulet and shimmering grotto, I figured the splash was do-able.

I just am saying that this in NO WAY reflected the three sealed decks of my weekend, and I would have killed for a pool like this.

Looking over the pool, it looks like it's GR, UB, or crap.  I went GR.

With Huntmaster of the Fells, Instigator Gang, and Daybreak Ranger, going GR seems good; throw in a vampire subtheme and you've pretty much filled all of the slots.  Ended up with a fairly aggressive -- only three cards above 4cmc -- almost-two-color deck that hopefully can win me the game before my opponent finds anything too scary.  If they do, Increasing Ambition can find an answer.

I didn't play the Captain because I only have a couple of vampires and don't want to louse up my mana for a single creature I'm always going to want to play as soon as I draw it.  Possibly a mistake -- I haven't played Sealed in ages -- but I'm reasonably content with how the deck turned out.

The Huntmaster kind of is a big pull towards RG and its variations. I went Jund, focusing on Vampires and their lord as the creature force of this deck.

I like shimmering grotto but...its slowly, also the cheap red creatures needs more red mana...

Avacyn mask its great but ranger´s guile is like a "counter removal spell" soo... i like this jund deck and huntmaster of the fells its a ****in boss!! ;D

I would build it this way, not sure if its good or not. 6 mana for the flashback on fires is quite late, so i think 1 amulet and 1 swamp is sufficient. Other than that, i feel like not splashing too much makes the deck more consistent. And ranger's guile protects your various bombs like huntmaster, gang, daybreak ranger, and even rage thower well.
I have always loved the werewolves and gold cards. So here is my take on the sealed pool. It looks like a lot of fun to play and I would have been ecstatic to have opened this pool at the pre-release.

I thought this pool was kinda garbage with the notable exception of the Huntmaster and some of the red creatures/removal.

That's my deck, and it follows the same game plan I always seem to use in sealed:  hit a decent curve and top out at 5 cmc stuff while prioritizing in order of:  removal -> creatures -> synergy.  Rage Thrower is just too good to not take though.

My sealed deck last weekend was ridiculously awesome.

GW tokens with a single Intangible Virtue 3 Lingering Souls 2 Gather the Townsfolk and a Geist-Honored Monk to round things out.  I also had two pieces of removal/permission and a couple of Travel Preparation with the Avacyn's Collar which made the humans(the rest of the cards in the deck) awesome when I got it out.  I splashed for the flashback on the Lingering Souls and the Vault of the Archangel I pulled with a Shimmering Grotto, a Caravan Vigil and a Traveler's Amulet  Last, but surely not least, I had the awesome power of the Trepanation Blade at my disposal.  Unfortunately, though I swung with it countless times, it only once hit more than a single land, and that swing was only adding 6 power and got flash blocked.

That deck only went 3-1-1 in my tournament, but I was up against a red deck with two Rolling Temblors and three spot removal spells he showed me afterward.  I got hosed by his Bloodcrazed Neonates without drawing any token makers in the last two games.  Incidentally, He scooped to overwhelming fliers in game one.  The tie was a result of a guy building a nasty cruel control type deck that was either countering stuff or bouncing/board wiping.  He won the first game with a bit of milling/control god-draw against my hand(that took forever unfortunately) so the second game went to turns, and I won on the second with a single spirit wielding(you guessed it) Trepanation Blade.
The end is always nigh.

I decided to build straight up R/G beats because, let's face it, the Red and Green were like three times better than any other color. Blue was the only one that came close, but it just wasn't as bombtastic. Since I had so many bombs, it seemed natural to splash for Increasing Ambition, which lead to splashing for Stormkirk Captain to. I admit I may have gotten a little greedy at that point.

I thinck White is too weak and Blue and red are strong !
Green have some interresting cards.

1 swamp is needed for the 2 fires of undeath
Only 2 forest for just the 2 Briarpack Alpha and the huntmaster of the Fells and the daybreaker ranger
And complete with the best blue / red cards of the pool.

I wanted to play G/R because of the Huntmaster, and it helped that the other colors were more or less trash. The deck plays a lot of solid creatures. Waiting to play Fires of Undeath on your opponents turn will let you flip your wolves.

From what I can tell this practice sealed deck builder is basically perfect. I keep looking for areas to susgest things, but come up short everytime. THIS IS JUST WHAT MTGDaily needed!
