Merging F&S and Art forum

So the flavor forums have been kind of lacking ever since the forums were redone.

My proposal is to merge the Art and Storyline forums together into one flavor forum. Currently Art has 5 threads that have been posted in in the last week.

Storyline has an entire page.

Merging the two would increase traffic and the number of active disscusions while also merging the communities in both forums.

I would suggest the forum title be "Flavor, Storyline, and Art" and the description would be:

From flavor text to comics to novels, the many worlds of the Magic: the Gathering multiverse are an expansive and exciting place. If you want to discuss the setting, stories, art or flavor of Magic, this is the place for you.
… and then, the squirrels came.
I wanna say no, but I can see the logic behind it.
I think it would change much for us, at the Flavor and Storylines forum. We already discuss Art here on occasion. It would also consolidate all the forums that talk about stuff that isn't mechanical, so I see the logic in it.

After the official forums lost most of their functionality, a once vibrant community of Vorthos was wiped out.The survivors founded a new place to discuss all things concerning with the art, flavor and storylines of Magic: The Gathering. Come join us.

BURSTING WITH VIGOR!
Trolljuju wiped the sweat from his brow as he continued his slow trudge up the snowy mountain. The wind was strong and fiercely cold, but he pressed against it. Juju knew Beast Engine was somewhere at the peak, waiting for him. But this was not a matter of confronting the forces of nature themselves; that had been accomplished long before, and was now too easy to maintain the manly man's interest. Today, Beast Engine was here waiting for a friend. Trolljuju's mind drifted from his appointment to thoughts of Beast Engine's manliness. The only man in history to punch the fossilized remains of a dinosaur back to life just to punch it to death again. The man who deflected bullets with his pectoral muscles during his daily assassination attempts. The man who cured cancer with a serum made from pure crystalized virility. The man who burst with vigor. Not just a man but a Man- the manliest of all men. A god of masculinity in physical form. Trolljuju's heart fluttered at the memory of him and lightened his steps as he pressed on. Suddenly, he was shaken from his reverie by a deep, powerful rumble in the mountain that shook him to his core. Instinctively, he threw himself to the ground just before the slope ahead of him exploded in a fiery wall of light and heat. So great was the force that the entire upper section of the mountain was vaproized. It scorched Juju's coat, then rose on the air to drift far away, a plume of white-hot ash. When Trolljuju lifted his head to see what was left behind, he beheld a wide, perfectly flat stone plateau, and in the distance he could see a muscular figure, his foot still held up from the kick. There was no doubt it was Beast Engine. As soon as the ground beneath him cooled, Juju cast his heavy pack aside and ran. As the figure grew with closeness, he could see Beast Engine was nude, as was expected. The snow that fell near him turned to a thin wall of steam, looking to Trolljuju's eyes like a barrier. Engine was too strong, too manly to occupy the same space as the ordinary universe. He lived in a world all his own. But fortunately for Juju, it was only an illusion. He ran at full speed into Engine, who caught him with both arms and effortlessly twirled with him, resting with Juju dipped low to the ground in Engine's arms. "Beast Engine, my love," Trolljuju breathed, sturck with awe at Engine's masculine beauty despite the familiarity of his face. Engine just smiled, radiating from every inch of him with incredible strength, yet gentle warmth. "It's been so long, Juju. I've missed you." "Forgive me. I lost contact with you while you were boxing with Death to win back and consume the soul of Theodore Roosevelt. But now I'm here..." Juju lifted one tentative hand to Engine's face, but he pulled away. "You know I cannot give you what you seek. Were we to make love, your body would be destroyed by the force." "I know, of course I would," Juju responded, tears in his eyes. "May I have, at least, one kiss?" "Very well. For you, my friend." Slowly, gingerly, they came closer. But the moment their lips met, a flood of unbridled manliness rushed into Trolljuju, body and soul, and every cell in his body exploded. Beast Engine fell to his knees, and in his grief, he wept. The tears that fell from his face burned deep into the rock beneath him. But slowly, his sorrow turned to conviction. He beat the crap out of Death once. He could do it again.
Never been in the art section myself, so I can't comment on how the communities would mesh.  That being said, it may be nice to increase traffic, maybe get more participation in the forum games.

There isn't any actual communtiy in the Art section to speak of, they get maybe one random thread a week, and, if they're lucky, a handful a replies.

Truthfully, I don't think they would mesh.
There are barely any regulars down there, but the ones who do show up would probably react negatively. Besides that, we do discuss art here pretty regularly. This would also give us a chance to actually interact with the artists who occasionally pop in.

I dunno, I still favor keeping them separate. I don't like change!
I'm not a regular here, but flavor interests me a lot.
I think it'd be a fine idea. No need to keep another area separated when it's strongly related to this one and is pretty much rotting with inactivity.

For autocarding, write [c][/c] with the name of the card inside it. [c]Island[/c] = Island For linking a card to Gatherer without writting the name of said card for readers, use the autocard brackets together with and equal sign and right the name of the real card. Then put the message you want inside the tags, like you would do with autocarding. Like this: [c=Curse of the Cabal]Captain Never-resolves[/c] = Captain Never-resolves For using the decklist format, follow this: [deck] 4* Terramorphic Expanse 4* Evolving Wilds ... [/deck] It equals:

Oh, it's a brilliant plan. You see, Bolas was travelling through shadowmoor, causing trouble, when he saw a Wickerbough Elder with its stylin' dead scarecrow hat. Now, Bolas being Bolas took the awesome hat and he put it on his head, but even with all his titanic powers of magic he couldn't make it fit. He grabbed some more scarecrows, but then a little kithkin girl asked if he was trying to build a toupee. "BY ALL THE POWERS IN THE MULTIVERSE!" he roared, "I WILL HAVE A HAT WORTHY OF MY GLORY." and so he went through his Dark Lore of Doom (tm) looking for something he could make into a hat that would look as stylish on him as a scarecrow does on a treefolk. He thought about the Phyrexians, but they were covered in goopy oil that would make his nonexistant hair greasy. He Tried out angels for a while but they didn't sit quite right. Then, he looked under "e" (because in the Elder Draconic alphabet, "e" for Eldrazi is right next to "h" for Hat) in his Dark Lore of Doom and saw depictions of the Eldrazi, and all their forms. "THIS SHALL BE MY HAT!" he declared, poking a picture of Emrakul, "AND WITH IT I WILL USHER IN A NEW AGE OF DARKNESS -- ER, I MEAN A NEW AGE OF FASHION!" And so Nicol Bolas masterminded the release of the Eldrazi.

From the time I've been lurking here (reg date + a couple of additional months) art seems to lack a community so to say, so after a merge it could be kidna disorienting for Art regulars to put their comments here, especially if called Flavour, Storylines, and Art, as if they're just a minor diety absorbed by The Flavoueoplasm.

That said, if executed well and embraced by regulars of both I'd very much welcome the additional activity, the additional depth, the additional ability to spam, and the additional awesomeness that they'd carry over to us here. I'd personally like to see what happens, but knowing myself I like to see all sorts of improbable situations implode just to see the results and the fallout, so let's call it fifty fifty from this minor one .

Well, I've been here for almost four days now. I think that gives my opinion more weight than ALL Y'ALLS!

No, but seriously, I won't voice an opinion on the actual question, but here's my take on change in general. if it's necessary, do it. But if it's not, just let sleeping dogs lie, or whatever other idiom that fits.

Now I can't say that merging the art and Flavor forums is a good or bad idea because I honestly have no idea. But I've been a part of private forums (more specifically, guild forums) before that just fall apart because they kept changing things that didn't need to be messed with. Change isn't always a good thing, despite that being a cornerstone of the Obama campaign.

So there's my two cents.
Well, we haven't actually had things shaken up in a while. It's not like we're changing things all the time.

I mean, things are constantly breaking around here, but that's got nothing to do with us and everything to do with the fact that we've had three years now of Obvious Beta.

My on a name for the proposed merged forum: Magic Flavor (Art, Story, & World)

Would World be better or Setting? (Or planes now that i think of it)

Magic Flavor (Art, Story, & World)
Magic Flavor (Art, Story, & Setting)
Magic Flavor (Art, Story, & Planes)

^ I like "setting" more than world. Though i think the order shoudl be (Setting, Story, & Art)
… and then, the squirrels came.
I prefer Story, Settings, and Art.
Story is really what drives this forum, so it should be foremost in the listings. As it is, Art is just being assimilated and isn't really offering US anything in return.
^ Now, that's just you refusing to acknowledge the vadility of a different approach/perspective than the dominant one which you molded to be your own.

Considering that the Art community is a whopping 0 and the falvor community is many strong, I'd say it's fair to throw art at the end.

Honeslty i like Setting, story, and Art becasue of alliteration, and because "art" is a single syllable word and i think it sounds better (and looks better) at the end. Story, setting & art works as well.

Ideally, you'd want a name that makes it clear exactly what goes here. When the Rules Theory forum was first created we had some fun about renaming it (You see alot of people post basic rules questions there not realizing it was the wrong forum) people came up with "UberTemplating" which was rejected for not being descriptive or not.

I have a freaking degree in graphic design with a minor in art history.
Trust me, I know art.
And I know the art community is emptier than Pompei after the eruption.
I was wondering why there seemed to be ash all over everything down there... huh.

"Magic Flavor (Story, Setting, & Art)" sounds good to me.

If we merge, can we get the actual thread archive merged as well? How will that work?

Haha fair enough, I mean I know you can't actually separate flavour from art because then art would cease to be iconographic, but that forum is currently (well ok, it's inactive) more occupied with homebrewing magic-themed pictures and comparing how pretty (well endowed) the cards are to each other, most of the threads I've seen at least. That is something you might loose if we're not careful. That said, MF-SSA certainly has the nicest ring to it alltogether.

I don't see how that's a negative here...
The magic-esque themed homebrow pictures would fit in here, but we might be a little more harsh than some of the people down there were since for the most part we have a more robust education of what defines good art.

Besides, we semi-regularly talk about art up here as it is, of course, we don't compare pictures so much as actually analyze a picture for its own merits. Between me and Keeper alone, we know our stuff.
"Story, Setting, & Art" seems best--I was about to say how it should be "Art, Setting, & Story" based on alphabetical order to avoid bias, but then I realized what the acronym would be...

There's absolutely nothing wrong with donkeys. They are diligent and make quite good farm animals.
