  • This is a contest, one of the participants will win a whole load of nothing.

  • You will gain feedback, but no scores. If this is an issue, you can compare text length to make yourself feel better.

  • Include an explanation if necessary. If I don't find anything clever, that's your loss.

  • Static abilities are neither clever nor innovative by themselves.

  • The contest closes when I can't wait any longer.

  • Garruk Relentless is the most clever Planeswalker to this date.

I consider a clever planeswalker to be one that uses the mechanics of planeswalkers in an interesting fashion, and might have more option than the first impression. Alternatively, you could expand upon how Planeswalkers work (most commonly adding other types of loyalty abilities), as long as you use this in an interesting way.

Spark of Fury
Sorcery
Target red creature you control loses all abilities and becomes a Planeswalker with a number of loyalty counters on it equal to its converted mana cost.  It's no longer a creature.  It has
"+1:  Target creature gets +X/+0, where X is this card's printed toughness," and
"-3:  This planeswalker deals X damage to target creature or player, where X is this card's printed power."

Planeswalker - Daavol

[+X] : Remove X counters from target permanent, player or exiled card. X cannot be greater than the number of counters on that card or player.
[-5] : Remove all counters from all other permanents, players and exiled cards. Put X 1/1 blue Illusion tokens with flying on to the battlefield, where X is the number of counters removed in this way.

Zeal Godghost
Planeswalker - Zeal (M)
[0]: You may put a card face down from your hand onto the battlefield as a 2/2 creature. If you do, put a loyalty counter on Zeal Godghost.
[-2]: You may reveal your hand. If you do, draw three cards.
[-6]: Turn up all face down creatures you control. Noncreature cards turned face up in this way lose their type and become X/X Weird creatues, where X is that card's converted mana cost.

At the beginning of your upkeep, gain X life, where X is the number of loyalty counters on ~.
0: Put a loyalty counter on ~
-X: Gain X life

This thing is clever because only one planeswalker so far has a non-loyalty, loyalty-related abillity. This card does this in an origanal way.

PORTRAIT OF A PLANESWALKER – Coming October 13th, 2013

IMAGE(http://sprites.pokecheck.org/i/385.gif)

Talum Veer, Archmage
Planeswalker - Veer M
When Talum Veer, Archmage enters the battlefield, exile up to three instant cards you own from outside the game.
/+2\: Target player discards a card. If it’s an instant card, exile it.
\-X/: Copy a card exiled by Talum Veer with converted mana cost X or less. You may cast the copy without paying its mana cost. You may activate this ability during any player’s turn any time you could cast an instant.
{ 3 }
Vergut, Grove Shepherd
Planeswalker - Vergut
Permanents you control gain "(T): Add (G) to your mana pool."
+2: Search your library for a forest card and put it onto the battlefield. If you do, shuffle your library.
-2: Each forest you control is a 2/4 green Treefolk creature until your next turn.
{4}

I like how this planeswalker 'cheats' by having an ability that impacts the board immediately. You can also tap him for mana the turn he enters the battlefield (since only creatures are affected by summoning sickness).
My latest set is in public beta! KOR - Kingdoms of Rabiah - Check it out! Like Uncle Istvan? Like Rabiah? Like Homelands? Then check out theScion's Parade of Planeswalkers Got Flavor? Throw it at me in my Gauntlet: theScion vs YMTC thread. Can the combined powers of YMTC defeat our favorite rainbow-faced card crafter?
Mayael, Anima of Naya -

Planeswalker - Mayael

+1 - Put a land token onto the battlefield with ": Add one mana of any color to your mana pool[/mc]"
+X - As an additional cost to use this ability, you pay X times. Put X loyalty counters on Mayael, Anima of Naya.
-9 - Casting creature spells doesn't cause mana to empty from your mana pool.

Ellesvee, Champion of Elves -

Planeswalker - Ellesvee

+1: Search your deck for an Elf card, reveal it, and put it into your hand. Shuffle your deck afterwards.
+0: Until end of turn, whenever you cast a creature spell, draw a card.
-6: You get an emblem with "Whenever you cast a creature spell, draw a card.", an emblem with "Tap three untapped elves you control: Add to your mana pool, and three 2/2 Green elf tokens with "Whenever you cast a green spell, untap this permanent.".

Daavol, Temporal Adept
Planeswalker - Daavol

[-1] : Proliferate
[+X] : Remove X counters from target permanent, player or exiled card. X cannot be greater than the number of counters on that card or player.
[-5] : Remove all counters from all other permanents, players and exiled cards. Put X 1/1 blue Illusion tokens with flying on to the battlefield, where X is the number of counters removed in this way.
{3}

For the second ability I don't see why it matters to not remove more than there are o.. oh that says plus X!  I now understand, I apologize.

For the ultimate however, I believe you can cleanly remove the reference to X (A personal vendetta of mine, I've still never found treasure) by re-wording it as:

[-5] : Remove all counters from all permanents, players and exiled cards.  For each counter removed this way, put a 1/1 blue Illusion token with flying onto the battlefield.

Also makes it slightly shorter, incase you need to save space (You always need to save space).

Just throwing that out there.

While I'm talking about removing X; You can take X out of your 2nd ability also:

+0 : You may pay any number of times. For each time the cost was paid, put a loyalty counter on ~.

You might as well make it a +/- 0 ability, since it revolves around how much you pay, and doesn't really need to be interested in declaring it ahead of time.

EDIT: Super Quote
Oh. It's plus X.

That... sounds incredibly broken with things like Greater Gargadon and Dark Depths.

Uh yeah, let's not talk about it..  It would certainly be terrifying, although I will say that it is slower then it needs to be to actually break anything at 4 CmC.. I think?  Certainly doesn't seem broken good anyways.

Once again, I'm jealous of Elizaban;  This time the format of PW's, I like the look of that (Except the : in it, I'll omit that, hoping people understand.)

Medea of the Contagion |
Planeswalker - Medea (M)
Counters remain on Medea as she moves to the battlefield or graveyard.
If two or more cards named Medea of the Contagion are in any graveyard, exile each of them.
/+4\  Return Medea of the Contagion from your graveyard to the battlefield. Play this ability only if Medea is in your graveyard. (This counts towards the limit of one loyalty ability per turn.)
/-2\   Each player sacrifices half of their creatures rounded up. Then each player sacrifices half of their planeswalkers rounded up.
/-6\   You get an emblem with "Whenever a permanent is sacrificed, you may have target player lose 3 life."
{3}

I'm sorry, what did you ask me to do again?  I think I made a mess of things, this isn't exactly interesting or clever.  I dunno, maybe you'll think so?  Also I broke 'Magic Rules of English Usage' by replacing 'it' with 'she'.  But I feel like planeswalkers demand a certain bravado of flavor and style.  Which is then broken by the use of 'Cards named Medea' on the next line.  I couldn't find a way to word it, while not changing the CR (Which is grossly unneccessary), so I left it like this.  I thought about changing 'She' back to 'it' but it still feels off to me.  I like trying to keep the proper noun/replacement noun going for planeswalkers though, I think it's legit, and can easily be reconciled with the current rules.  I also think this PW is poor for that same reason, that it breaks the tense of 'Emersion' by refering to a card named itself.  I believe they are ok to refer to the rest of magic cards/creatures/what ever as cards and such, but themselves should be on a higher plane (No pun) to keep the feeling of that 'A new challenger approches' (As in a player entering the game to aid you.)
But besides my elaborate theory on pronouns, I doubt you'll be impressed.. not that the pronoun thing will impress you, but ya know.

I'm sorry, what did you ask me to do again?

To create a planeswalker that is interesting because of how it uses the planeswalker rules. Garruk Relentless is slightly interesting because his ability allows creatures to directly damage it, but that's not impressive. SPOILER: Sorin would be a clever planeswalker if his ultimate would let you target him, because then you could use it at 7 loyalty to bring him back and activate another ability.

Rosque, Master of Mirrors
Planeswalker - Rosque {R}
+1: Rosque becomes a copy of a creature of your choice until end of turn.
-2: You get an emblem with "Whenever a player casts an instant or sorcery, you may lose this emblem. If you do, copy that spell. You may choose new targets for the copy.
-5: Return Rosque to his owner's hand. Search your library for a planeswalker card and put it into play. Its subtype becomes Rosque. Then shuffle your library.

Do you even own an actual Chaos Orb?" Me: "Yes, but I thought it would be better to use a Proxy." Him: "No way. If you're going to put a Chaos Orb in your deck you have to use your actual Chaos Orb." Me: "*Sigh*. Okay." I pulled out this huge Chaos Orb and placed it on the table. He tried to cry foul again but everyone else said he insisted I use my actual Chaos Orb and that was my actual Chaos Orb. I used it, flipped it and wiped most of his board. Unsurprisingly, that only worked once and only because everyone present thought it was hilarious.

Hi guys! So, I'm a sort of returning player to Magic. I say sort of because as a child I had two main TCG's I liked. Yu-Gi-Oh, and Pokemon. Some of my friends branched off in to Magic, and I bought two pre-made decks just to kind of fit in. Like I said, Yu-Gi-Oh and Pokemon were what I really knew how to play. I have a extensive knowledge of deck building in those two TCG's. However, as far as Magic is concerned, I only ever used those two pre made decks. I know how the game is played, and I know general things, but now I want to get in the game for real. I want to begin playing it as a regular. My question is, are all cards ever released from the time of the inception of this game until present day fair game in a deck? Or are there special rules? Are some cards forbidden or restricted? Thanks guys, and I will gladly accept ANY help lol.

That's what RPJesus tends to do. That's why I don't think he's a real person, but some Magic Card Archive Server sort of machine, that is programmed to react to other posters' comments with obscure cards that do in fact exist, but somehow missed by even the most experienced Magic players. And then come up with strange combos with said cards. All of that is impossible for a normal human to do given the amount of time he does it and how often he does it. He/It got me with Light of Sanction, which prompted me to go to RQ&A to try and find if it was even possible to do combat damage to a creature I control (in light that Mark of Asylum exists).

Should I factor in how long it takes to prepare? Cereal is ready in moments, but bacon takes longer to cook. Then there is the impact on other industries. Do people in the cereal industry deserve to be employed more than people in the bacon industry? Which industry should I support? I don't even have the data regarding HOW MUCH the cereal industry benefits from me eating a bowl of cereal, or how much the bacon industry benefits from me eating a side of bacon. How can I compare two qualities I can't even quantify? And let's not forget the milk on the cereal. In addition to determining whether or not milk is healthy for me, how much that benefits the milk industry, and how much the people in the milk industry deserve my support, we have to factor in the fact that cows are put under brutal conditions in order to collect thier milk. Of course, the same goes for the pigs, and then they get killed. Of course, I really like bacon. So I need to come up with a scale that compares the value of cow happiness to pig happiness to my happiness. What trade-offs am I willing to make here? Does the fact that the pig gets put out of its misery count as a plus or a minus? Isn't bacon bad for me anyway? Deciding what to eat for breakfast (or any meal) is impossible. Help me!
