You Build the Character #27 - Cad Bane

This contest is now closed.

Hi everyone, and welcome back to You Build the Character. Last month we covered bounty hunters, but there was one in particular who was overlooked - the gun-toting, hat-tipping, slow-drawling Cad Bane. You have until 11.59pm (PT) on Thursday 22 December to post your RPG stats, and any notes you want to post explaining your decisions. Once submissions have closed, all forum members will have until 11.59pm (PT) on Thursday 5 January to vote for their favourite. Whichever build receives the most votes will win.

The prize for winning is having your stats enshrined in the YBtC Hall of Fame, as well as the bragging rights.

The following rules apply to all submissions:

  1. All builds must be created according to RAW, with no house rules (no single Athletics skill, no bonus feats for bloodlines etc).

  2. You may use "unlimited" point buy for Bane's ability scores, provided each score is between 3 and 18 at first level (before racial and age adjustments).

  3. You are free to use material from all official Saga Edition books, up to and including The Unknown Regions.

  4. Your stats may represent Cad Bane at any point during his life, or serve as an overall interpretation of the character as a whole. You may even include multiple stats to represent multiple points in time, provided they are all different level versions of the same build (ie no swapping out talents or feats).

  5. Cad Bane is a Duros, and as such uses the Duros species traits provided on page 25 of the core rulebook.

  6. You may change your stats at any point up until submissions close, at which point any edited stats will be disqualified.

Actually, creating custom equipment is fine, just so long as you include the stats for the equipment with the main stat block (this isn't necessary if you go the "treat as..." route).

Yes, backgrounds are allowed, provided you follow the rules set out in the Rebellion Era Campaign Guide (backgrounds replace destinies, one background per character, species can't choose their homeworld as a background etc).

A bounty hunter would not be complete without a customized set of tools and weapons, all suited to the needs and personal tastes of the hunter. Cad Bane’s equipment caters to his versatility and his desire to get the job done, because the quicker the job, the sooner the payment.

BlasTech LL-30 Blaster Pistol

Pistol
Manufactured with a heat-resistant alloy, this blaster is favored for its sustained high firing rate. This model comes equipped with a targeting scope (see page 140 of the Saga Edition Core Rulebook) and has a 50-shot capacity. This model also has the rare ability to be silenced by placing a special cap on its muzzle (a swift action). These caps are included in the purhcase price. When silenced, the maximum range of the LL-30 is reduced to 6 squares. Cad Bane has modified these pistols to his exacting standards, affording him more power per shot. Cad Bane’s LL-30s are both considered to have the Tech Specialist Improved Damage trait (SotG 21) and the Improved Energy Cell accessory (KotOR 75), thereby increasing their damage by +3 and their ammo capacity to 100 shots. Additionally, Bane has equipped his holsters to facilitate the fastest draw possible, allowing his LL-30s to be drawn or holstered as a free action (per the Quick Draw Weapon template, KotOR 79).

Multi-Purpose Gauntlets
Light Armor
Bane’s multi-purpose gauntlets house a mobile arsenal that includes two miniaturized flamethrowers [CR 128, Miniaturized upgrade SV 41], two projectile launchers (treat as miniaturized slugthrower pistols [CR 130]), and two miniaturized contact stunners [UR 36, treat as a Bothan Weapon, K 78]. It also includes a data uplink (treat as an size-stripped, immobile comlink with the Droidified [SV 40] upgrade which has also received the Automap and Credit Reader Accessories [SGD 55-56]), a cable launcher (treat as a dual-gear [SV 41] snare pistol [GI 64] & liquid cable dispenser [CR 138] with a grappling hook), a comlink, and an assortment of tools (treat as miniaturized lock breaking kit [SV 52]). All of the equipment in the multi-purpose gauntlets is considered to have received the Cloaked upgrade [SV 40], imposing penalties to perception to detect when not in use. When necessary, the Tech Specialist “extra ugrade slot” device modification [SV 48, sidebar] has also been used on the equipment.
Using the Armor Upgrades from Scum & Villainy, Cad Bane’s multi-purpose gauntlets have the Armorplast, Integrated Equipment (5 slots), and Weapon Mount (x2) upgrades. They cannot be worn with other armor.

Projectile Carbine, customized
Rifle
A custom job, this carbine is designed to fire rounds made from cortosis, a metal ore whose properties include the ability to cause a feedback loop that shorts out lightsabers. If an attack from this weapon is negated by a target using the Deflect talent with a lightsaber (see page 41 of the Saga Edition Core Rulebook), the attack deals half damage to the target and the lightsaber is automatically deactivated.
The target may use a swift action to reactivate the lightsaber after one full round has passed.
A projectile carbine deals piercing damage. Cortosis rounds cost 350 credits apiece, and the carbine takes damage equal to the amount shown on the damage dice for each shot made with cortosis rounds. Standard slugs may be used as alternative ammunition, and do not damage the weapon when fired. This weapon can fire up to 10 shots before reloading. As usual for carbines, it is both lightweight and inaccurate over long distances.

Magno-Grip Boots 
These boots require a swift action to activate. When activated, they allow the wearer to walk on metal surfaces without falling off (or drifting off in Zero Gravity) but also reduce the wearer's speed by 2 squares. Additionally, when activated and on a metal surface, they grant a +5 equipment bonus to defenses or checks made to resist being tripped or unwillingly moved. Cad Bane has attached two customized Mitrinomon jetpack thrusters (treat as a jet pack [CR 138]) to the boots. Using the Equipment Upgrades from Scum & Villainy, Cad Bane’s magno-grip boots are considered to have the Dual-Gear upgrade. They can be worn with armor unless the armor has footwear.

Without a doubt, awaypturwpn gets my vote.  The only thing that could have made that build better is if he'd included a droid protocol stat block for Cad's robot.

Thank you and yeah, I actually wanted to put together a protocol stat block but ran out of time I also meant to change out his Pin feat for Trip, but there you go :-p I love geeking out with builds, especially bounty hunter builds with all their cool equipment, and so with the green light for equipment creation I was loving this one!
