I have gone over the archtype thread in the Tier 1 section already.

What I would like to do here, in a separate thread is get opinions from experienced players on which build is the best.

I have gotten all of the cards to make this deck, minus cards like Inkmoth Nexus, which I can get if they make the cut as being apart of the "best" deck build possible.

Let's assume the "meta" is the top notch tournament decks currently, since I don't know what people are playing right now here... yet. though, I am going to go by FNM after I get off work and do a little scoping out and looking at what's out there.

I would like input on your opinions from playing or having played against the deck.

Also the sideboard, that's the one thing I have not put together yet.

What do you think is best, and why?

I really appreciate all the help guys <3

While Bughferd's words were clearly uncalled for, the picture is unnecessary.  I'm not sure why it's there and as a general rule of thumb throwing out personal pictures on the internet is not the best idea.

Red Deck Wins doesn't play Inkmoth Nexus. It looks something like this:

// Lands
    12 [IN] Mountain (4)
    4 [M11] Rootbound Crag
    4 [SOM] Copperline Gorge
    2 [INN] Kessig Wolf Run

// Creatures
    4 [INN] Stromkirk Noble
    4 [INN] Reckless Waif
    4 [M12] Stormblood Berserker
3 [MBS] Hero of Oxid Ridge
    3 [M12] Chandra's Phoenix
    2 [M12] Goblin Fireslinger

// Spells
4 [NPH] Shrine of Burning Rage
    4 [MPR] Incinerate
    4 [NPH] Volt Charge
2 [SOM] Koth of the Hammer
    4 [NPH] Gut Shot

// Sideboard
SB: 2 [SOM] Koth of the Hammer
SB: 3 [NPH] Vulshok Refugee
SB: 3 [SOM] Arc Trail
SB: 4 [INN] Ancient Grudge
SB: 3 [INN] Traitorous Blood

I lost a bet >.>

We want to know which one!

As an aside, the pic does look like you're very pale because of the lightning. More contrast would be better. Telling people what this picture is could also make sure you don't get this kind of answers :-p

As for your question, As Mr Indigo said, I'm not sure RDW runs Nexus. Most of the time, it's played in deck where it won't hurt your manabase. Being really aggro, it could hurt you if you have one in your starting hand, especially with the splashed green current versions like.

Yeah... Until next game, where it'll be right back. Seriously, there's no way to deal with Rancor in any format. It should be banned, except Gleemax is a lobbyist for the Rancor party, so that'll never happen.
You can't ban rancor, it just returns to your deck.

When talks about banning Jace first started, I was thinking that I would see him banned come June 20th. But as I think more about it, I don't really think that Jace is the problem anymore. Sure his power level leaves very little to the imagination (opening Jace is like opening a refrigerator box with a naked girl on the inside), and sure his price does have a strong impact on what players choose to play (playing Jace is like being intimate with a woman and she doesn't charge you in the morning), but it is not the source of all the problems in Standard.

How do people think saving room to print more abilities on cards is dumbing down the game?

Do you really think, say, Akroma would ever be printed if she said, "Akroma can block by creatures with this ability and cannot be blocked by creatures without this ability.  If a creature without this ability would deal combat damage by Akroma would be destroyed, prevent all combat damage that creature would deal to Akroma this combat.  Attacking does not cause Akroma to tap.  If Akroma is blocked and deals lethal damage, it deals the remainder of its damage to the defending player.  Akroma may attack and use abilities that require tapping in the casting cost the turn it enters the battlefield.  Akroma cannot be damaged, enchanted, equipped, blocked or targeted by black or red sources" rather than her "dumbed down" wording she has?  No freaking way.  Keywording and shorthand allows them to make complicated cards easy to play with, allowing them to be printed in the first place.

1. cast frankie peanuts2. ask opponent "will you concede the game this turn"? if they say yes, you win; if they say no, play a staying power
3. subsequently ask "will you attack this turn"? and "will you cast a spell this turn"? (using a Teferi, Mage of Zhalfir for the second question if necessary) to ensure they can't disrupt the combo
4. donate them a platinum angel
5. play a mox lotus and braingeyser them for every card in their library. play an opalescence and donate them a glorious anthem and a blacker lotus, then play enchanted evening. play and activate a mindslaver and then donate them a fastbond and the mox lotus (returning one of the donates to your hand with eternal witness or whatever)
6. during their turn, play every permanent in their hand (playing lands with fastbond) then (as yourself) cast mirrorweave on the blacker lotus, so every permanent becomes a copy of it. proceed to tear up every card they control, and hopefully do it before they notice that they aren't bound by staying power's ability anymore and can concede

Everyone's life would be easier if players would, instead of coming to the 'net for help with a deck, just netdeck and be done with it. And I'm not talking about some Top 8 lists, for the Casualists, too, can benefit from netdecking. I've netdecked plenty of decks from the Casual Play forums from users such as Mown, Raedien, Floopfoot, and a few others. I snatched straight the heck out of my web browser. Yes, people, your original idea fell victim to a savage netdecker. You have been assimiliated. Suppose I wanted a Zombie deck. Why on earth would I spend time searching Gatherer for a decent list of Zombie cards when Raedien already did it for me? Taking time to be creative or waiting on people on the forums to tell you why your deck sucks or 'go to Casual forums' is a disasterous waste of time (to me).

No, they just spam them with ban requests. That being said, Magic was ruined back in Alpha when they added all that rules and cards [Debutantes avert your eyes]. My friends and I still like playing it the "pure" way (Basically we go into the woods and hit eachother with wiffle bats while shouting made up obscenities. Also decks have no color identity. -Starting life total is 20. And voila, now things are balanced.

This flow, sometimes called convection, is cited by frustrated box mappers as one of WOTC's most genious uses of thermodynamics since the Ravnica block. No one knows what lies at the core of the booster box, but scientists theorize that it must be especially dense in order to make up for the large amount of fluff distributed amongst the booster packs.

MaRo has a thing for people opening boosters with bad cards. But since he can only get so many bad cards printed in each set, he has found a devious way of getting more bad cards into circulation: He makes entire print sheets with just bad rares, then puts them onto the assembly line. He proceeds to wring his hands and twirl his evil mustache that he grew for twirling purposes as a lightning bolt strikes in the background. Afterwards, he goes to make sure that the good cards are only opened by everyone's friends, and that we all only get to open bad cards. He does this by memorising each booster, than switching them around accordingly. Whenever someone complains about a card, he immediately jumps out from behind a chair to yell "WELL, IT'S NOT FOR YOU!" before merging back into the shadows in order to devise new ways in which he can screw over players, then claim that he has valid reasons for doing so.

I'm only opposed to it because it bears so little relation to how people actually play the game. The example of Miracles is actually a much better one then the Clone example I was trying to use. From the game's perspective, the card can move instantly from face down in the library to revealed in the hand and that's fine for the rules. But in real life, we can't actually do that, so the card spends a good bit of time in locations that are neither where that player's library is nor where that player's hand is. And that's fine for real life. What I don't want is the disconnect to be explicitly codified. Along the lines of
183664.697 A game of Magic as laid out by these rules exists only as a pure Platonic ideal, utterly unrealizable by fallible mortals limited by the confines of physicality and the ravages of evil and sin. 183664.698 The cake is a lie, too.
I know it's true, but I don't want the rules to actually straight-up tell me that.

JuliusPringle wrote:

Yeah. Talk to the cashier. Tell him/her that you want a Black Lotus, and if they don't have one tell them that the store isn't on par with what you expected.

Reach into your back left pocket. Pull out a deck list that you copied directly from some ChannelFireball top 8 Standard discussion, and ask for all the cards, as is, on that list. Then, ask for some random, probably terrible cards from whatever set is Standard legal. Say it's tech for the upcoming changes in the metagame.

Pull out a deck, and tell some random dude you wanna test (you have to use the term "test" for this to work) for Standard. Make sure that deck contains Kitchen Finks and Alluring Siren. Maybe throw in Nyxathid for good measure.

Finally, before you leave, spill (make it look like an accident) one hundred singleton, random cards onto the floor. Pick them up, put them in a pile, and say "EEE-DEE-AYCH".

I know this sounds dumb at first, but it will work. With the method outlined above, you will draw the attention of players that play older formats by asking for cards that no one on Earth can reasonably afford. You will get the attention of the wanna-be pro, Stomp-n00bz players by pulling out a well known decklist and declare that you have "tech" to make it better. You will get the attention of all the kind, helpful players by seemingly not knowing the most common format by having non-Standard legal cards in a deck that you claim is Standard legal. Finally, you catch all the rest of the Magic players by saying "EEE-DEE-AYCH" (EDH (or Commander)).

And there you have it. You will be talking to more people than you would have wanted to talk to in no time.

The bet was clearly to post a picture of a girl and you'd get better responses/faster responses/etc. than blank.
Thanks Mr. Indigo, I appreciate the reply.

Here is a real picture of me without the photoshop whiteness :P Yes, I'm a Magic geek. Shhh, don't tell my friends lmao (:

Thanks for posting here shadow. I have been reading your posts as a guest ove rthe last few weeks and  I just started playing Magic (again) after a 15 year "break" and some of the questions you ask are exactly some of the things I am trying to relearn myself.

Don't let this moron above get to you. In fact, you should report him for spamming and harassment and I'll do the same.
And Indigo's decklist looks pretty good, but I have emt some people that really do NOT like the Reckless Waif at all. So, there is some room for tweaking the creatures there. I know some of them have Grim Lavamancer and some do not.

I will do some more research and you can send me a pm and we can talk about it more.
^^^ Another reason you shouldn't post pictures on the internet... especially a forum. You get stalkers like this guy^^^

There's 2 type of RDW's neither use Inkmoth Nexus as far as I know. One being really expensive (Koth is like a $20 card), and then the other is a Goblin version which I have thrown together for $50 (Not including sideboard, but that would be about $7-$10 depending on what you put in) I think the Goblin version is just as good as the expensive version. Both play diferent though, same Idea... rush, burn face, and finish with shrine. Goblin plays less creatures, but burns a lot harder due to having the acces to Goblin Grenade. If interested let me know (you don't have to PM :P) I'll post my version of goblin RDW here for ya!

P.S. don't make bets like that, unless your trying to get attention. Then your just being a tease, and that's bad for everyone.

I've found Reckless Waif to be one of the best one-drops available, although it gets SBed in and out a lot in Game 2s and 3s depending on matchup and who's on the play/draw. Grim Lavamancer is pretty bad at the moment (slow, no fetchlands). Spikeshot Elder and Goblin Fireslinger are alternatives.
No need to get up in arms over pictures everyone! As long as the content of the post and the picture do not break any rules then its no problem.

(I dont need to photoshop to get that pale! Genetics hooooo)

That being said to me personally after playing RDW in dailys on MTGO, I think it is on the way out of being a top deck, but it will still be played. The Wolf Run match-up can be very hard and very easy to lose with anything but an amazing hand or one that really abuses Shrines. Their ramp has bodys that trade with your guys and gets them land, and once they begin to snowball it is preaty much over. You could burn the creatures down, but essentially your always trading 1-1 and that is in their favor. Then the Mono green wolf runs deck just tosses out quick Thruns and Dungroves which can be equaly annoying.

Against other control decks its a bit easier and gives you a bit of leeway but you still need decent draws to seal a game out. Any white deck should have timely reinforcements in the SB which can be a pain and an annoying stall card, specially if it comes down early.

I could go on and on, but just make sure you have the right cards and know your match-ups well. If anyone wants to discuss or offer counter points please, lets have a hearty debate. I enjoy a hearty debate.

You'll have to excuse me I thought this was a forum for Magic the Gathering not for people to post superfluous pictures as if anyone cares how you look or what your gender is. I would of said the same thing to anyone who feels the need to randomly insert pictures of themselves on the internet.

It's no different then if you were on a forum that would want a picture posted and you suddenly posted a picture of a magic card. It's silly and looks like you are trying to get attention or make some statement that no one needs or wants to hear.

Also as a ginger I assure you I am the palest person in this thread.

RDW... is going to be a meta call. Any time control-heavy takes over, it's going to shine. Any time people try to squeeze a bit more power out in exchange for a touch of speed or reliability, bam, RDW will shock people again. For that matter, decks that use their life total as a resource make for some gravy too.

Midrange and, given the presence of bodies that ramp when they die, being popular is gonna hurt. If counters look like they're coming back then I'd rock it. Heck, consider having RDW as a backup and then scout tournaments. Any time the meta looks like it's hating on Wolf and the like... well, then audible it.

Pictures are not silly, people just need to not get up in arms over a picture. Nothing in this thread was a problem until people made it a problem.

Get back on track with this thread and its topic of discussion otherwise I will close it. Last warning.

Things I learned this last FNM about RDW in no particular order:
Immolating Souleater can block and trade with a Sword-wielding Ghost of Howard Taft.
Grim Lavamancer doesn't really have enough fuel now with the good cheap burn gone and the game refocused on creatures.  Also the fetches are gone.
Stromkirk Noble and Stormblood Berserker both have relevant evasion vs. Pod.
Sword of Feast and Famine is a nice 1-of in the 'board.
Kessig Wolf Run turns creatures into X-damage spells.  This is a very red card.
Ran 2 Copperline Gorge, 2 Wolf Run and 4 Rootbound Crag.  Would go 3 Copperline Gorge next time.
Spikeshot Elder combos with Wolf Run very late game for horrifyingly-inefficient but renewable damage.
Ancient Grudge is a must-have 4-of on account of the Swords that make hexproof creatures unfairly good.
Tunnel Ignus would be a good sideboard against Valakut2, just keep one on hand for when they Slagstorm the previous one.
Reckless Waif can cause opponents to make otherwise-silly plays to avoid facing down a 3/2.
11 seems to be the correct number of 1-drops.  I tried 4 Noble, 2 Spikeshot, 3 Waif, 2 Lavamancer.  Would recommend Lavamancer and a heavy instant-speed burn suite vs. UB control.
UB control is stupid hard.  Will experiment with different configurations of burn/recycle.
Got mana screwed a lot at 24 land main, Brimstone Volley was always an unkicked Resounding Thunder when I needed the extra damage most.
Need 4 Incinerate.  Yes, it costs 1 more than Bolt, but it's still worth it.  Double-Incinerate pTit is a solid play.  Wolf run doesn't seem to have creature recursion.  Will need first strike against Thrun, the Last Troll
Chandra's Phoenix was okay, but the lower emphasis on burn neuters this slightly less than Lavamancer.
Will try again Friday.
I have been playing RDW's for some time now, was really big on it before M12 came out and I find it is still competitive as hell.
I have been played the mono red Koth build but it hits to many snags to run nonbasic lands like Rootbound Crag and Copperline Gorge. With that in mind the choice really comes down to Koth vs Ancient Grudge and Wolf run. I am getting more wins without Koth right now. A pumped Chandra's Phoenix has to be answered.

Cards I am having problems with right now and debating replacing are Grim Lavamancer and Reckless Waif. The thing is both can outright win me the game but they are winding up just being 1/1's a lot of the time.

I find a lot of people sideboard in Wurmcoil Engine vs RDW and Ancient Grudge honestly makes it easier to deal with then just a plane old Titan. Lots of smarter people then I run for Brimstone Volley but I never seam to have any luck with it.

Dismember is still a good sideboard card. That damn 0/13 turned into a nasty surprise when I showed 2 Dismembers in hand.

I like Act of Aggression. The instant speed nature of it can get you out of some nasty situations.
RDW is still a good deck that can win out of nowhere. The key to it is speed.
