Attack: Melee 1 (one creature); +11 vs. AC

Hit: 3d6 + 5 damage. 

(m) Ambush Assault (shadow, teleportation) * At-will

Effect: Before the attack, the morticanix teleports 2 squares.

Attack: Melee 1 (one or two creatures); +11 vs. AC

Hit: 3d6 + 5 damage, and the target is knocked prone. The morticanix gains a shadow point, up to a maximum of two.

(c) Dreadful Baying (fear, psychic, shadow) * Recharge when first bloodied

Attack: Close burst 5 (enemies in the burst that aren't deafened); +11 vs. Will

Hit: 2d8 + 3 psychic damage, and the target takes a -2 penalty to all defenses (save ends).

Miss: Half damage. 

---Move Actions---

Shrouded Relocation (shadow, teleportation) * Recharge: spend 1 shadow point

Effect: The morticanix teleports up to 7 squares. After it teleports, all light sources within 5 squares of it are extinguished. They can be relit as normal (magical light sources require a DC 15 Arcana check by someone trained in the skill, as a standard action).

Attack: Close burst 3 (one creature in burst); +11 vs. Will

Hit: The target is pulled 3 squares, and is marked (save ends). 

---Triggered Actions---

Immolating Smoke (fire, shadow) * Recharge: spend 2 shadow points

Trigger: The morticanix hits an enemy with beckoning gaze.

Effect (Free Action): The target takes ongoing 5 fire damage and is dazed (save ends).

This massive beast appears as a two-headed hound composed of shadow, smoke, and dark flames.


Arcana DC 17: In misbegotten corners of the wilds or on long-abandoned battlefields, people have said they've seen large, dark shapes, like that of hounds or wolves. They are canine-shaped horrors with burning eyes, wreathed in sweltering smoke. Those that have heard their baying say it is like the coming of doom, while those that met their gaze were never seen again.

Arcana DC 22: Rare is the ritual used to call forth a morticanix from the Shadowfell. This dark knowledge is often associated with warlocks, for to bind one of these beasts is to curse it to forever serve as a guardian. However, as some unfortunate souls have witnessed, morticanixes tend to outlive their masters.
