Need help with my Wizard regarding rituals.

Hello there.
It's been a while since I've played (since the AD&D days) so I just a litle bit of help with my Wizard. I need to know if I need to have the Ritual Caster feat in order to preform them or do Wizards naturally know how to preform them without the need for that feat.

I also would like to know if there's a way to convert stats from the 2nd edition AD&D to the 4th edition. I dug up all my old stuff and I have some advantures I would like to use.
This is a previous editions section of the boards. Might have better luck in the 4e rules QandA?

Ritual Caster- Wizards get it for free, so im not sure why you need to know this answer? But Yes, the only way for any character to cast rituals is with the ritual caster feat.

2nd ed conversion - No there is no conversion. They have republished a lot of old modules though, and many of them are roughly the same.

As Krusk said, you'd have to visit the 4e section for specific help on 4th edition, in general. There's times when the question really is simple - such as "wizards get Ritual Caster as a bonus feat" - and we can help, but it really is out of our expertise. That said, I know there are non-Ritual-Caster versions of the 4e Wizard out there, thanks to Essentials - these variations do not get Ritual Caster as a bonus feat, and instead get something else. (Rituals are not reprinted in Essentials, but are still available if you take the feat. Wizards just don't get the feat for free.)

However, to deal with the "previous editions" thing, I can help a bit.
1) The best way to convert a character or other rules element from one edition to another is to keep their concept and try to build the same concept in the new rules. This way, the new rules element will work without a hitch, since the new version keeps all the balance points and nuances of the new system with none of the cruft of the old. However, this takes a LOT of work.
2) If you have something that isn't built the same way, you can do a rough conversion by looking at how the scales worked. For instance, Wizards published a conversion book for 3e that converts the assorted 2e stats into 3e conventions. 4th Edition uses underlying mechanics far closer to 3e than to 2e (i.e. it consistently uses "roll higher" rules and AC/Fortitude/Reflex/Will, just like 3e, while 2e used "roll lower" some of the time and used AC / Paralyzation/Petrification/Staff,Wand,Rod/Breath/Spells as its defensive stats). Therefore, that conversion book should give you rough guidelines on how to switch between 2e and 3e, which can give you a benchmark for 4e.

Note that 4e's numerical scales are slightly different than 3e's (at the most basic, you'll need to switch a character's saving throws into Defenses by adding 10 to them), and in order to make sure you aren't turbocharging or shortchanging things, you'll have to do an audit or a playtest. But I suspect you knew that already.

Cancer prognosis: I am now cancer-free.

Seishi: I think it might be fun to have a one-off [game] tuned fairly, but with the intention of wiping the party.

DisposableHero_: if [my campaign] has taught me nothing else, it is that with this group, nothing tuned fairly will ever wipe the party

RadicalTaoist: I've been throwing **** at this group that's 5 levels over CRed in DFN, and have yet to wipe the party.
