Item Appears with Red Text

Currently checking over my wife's character under the new update (she's been changed from a Cleric to a Templar).

The only aspect of the change that seems odd to me is that her armor (Champion's Hauberk Finemail +3) appears in her item list with red text. Does this denote anything specific?

Here's her character summary, in case that matters:

I think that means she's not proficient with it.  (Which is silly, of course).

To fix, go with generic magic +3 armor.  The masterwork bonus is baked in now, so you no longer need to specify which masterwork material.

"Nice assumptions. Completely wrong assumptions, but by jove if being incorrect stopped people from making idiotic statements, we wouldn't have modern internet subculture." Kerrus
Practical gameplay runs by neither RAW or RAI, but rather "A Compromise Between The Gist Of The Rule As I Recall Getting The Impression Of It That One Time I Read It And What Jerry Says He Remembers, Whatever, We'll Look It Up Later If Any Of Us Still Give A Damn." Erachima

Thanks! That appears to have worked. It is a bit odd that it would be considered non-proficient, but as long as I have the workaround.

I'm trying to make a gnoll battlemind and the heavy shield is appearing in red text. Battleminds are proficient with heavy shields, are they not? I thought this might be a weight limitation issue, but no amount of boosting the STR score seemed to fix this.

I believe this is a bug and I reported it to CS as such.  Same thing happens to my Paladin and Warden with all shields that are equipped in the off-hand slot.  However, when they equip them the CB still behaves as if they are proficient in them - the math is correct.

OD&D, 1E and 2E challenged the player. 3E challenged the character, not the player. Now 4E takes it a step further by challenging a GROUP OF PLAYERS to work together as a TEAM. That's why I love 4E.

"Your ability to summon a horde of celestial superbeings at will is making my ... BMX skills look a bit redundant."

"People treat their lack of imagination as if it's the measure of what's silly. Which is silly." - Noon

"Challenge" is overrated.  "Immersion" is usually just a more pretentious way of saying "having fun playing D&D."

"Falling down is how you grow.  Staying down is how you die.  It's not what happens to you, it's what you do after it happens.”

Same thing occured with my Warlord who took the option to gain profiiency in heavy shields.  The math works, but the item shows up as red.  This was not the case prior to the update.
Slightly off-topic, but let me ask this question, because I don't know when this actually changed.

I had a Paladin with a Razor Shield Heavy Shield that he would equip in his Off-Hand slot.  It still works that way - it only equips in that slot.

However, I was building another character recently that had a Shield of Deflection and that shield only equips in the Arms slot.  Then to get the Shield bonus to AC and REF you had to equip a mundane shield in your off-hand slot.  At least the Shield of Deflection item doesn't weigh anything.

When did this change?  I assume this was done to work around the fact that you used to be able to equip a magic shield and bracers (or something else) at the same time, one in the off-hand slot and one in the arm slot, even though they're both Arms slot items.  I kind of like the way they do it now, but I was just wondering when that happened and if that works the same way for others.

same issue with weaponfighter with heavy shield and waraxe (shield in red), with ranger with longbow large version (it's a new profeciency ??)

how can i turn this to return normally please ?

Unless your a bugbear or another race with Powerful build, there isn't a way to get proficient with a large weapon. Otherwise, it's a bug that needs to be addressed, but is likely low priority, because it seems like most are just seeing it show up red, instead of losing bonuses.

This is one thing I hope they don't fix. I have never understood why a shield is the only item that takes the place of two magic item slots and my DM agrees with me, so he has allowed me to take advantage of the bugs that allows both.

I think the reason they are having such a hard time fixing it is that it doesnt make much sense in the first place.
