You Make The... Contest #7: Spies/Intelligence Agents

You Make The... Contest #7: Spies/Intelligence Agents

This contest is now closed.

As I mentioned in this thread, I'm going to be running a regular competition where board members submit their version of a selected area of the Star Wars Roleplaying Game: Saga Edition. The winner will have their entry enshrined in You Make The... Hall of Fame and the attendant bragging rights therein.
This is first requested competition subject for this contest (thanks jormundre) and I'm starting it a little earlier than normal - I'll probably continue them at this time in the future as well.

"And the last is a creature of betrayals, for without such things there is no hope" - Kreia

As in all wars and outside them, there are those that hunt the secrets of others and either sell them onto the highest bidder or report them to their superiors. It is a dangerous life and one not meant for fools - though their contributions to galactic society are largely overlooked by history.

This months challenge is to create a new (ie. not found in canon) Spy/Intel Agent - perhaps one you've created to challenge your players or perhaps as one of their allies... ;)

You have until 22:59 (GMT+1) Monday April 4th 2011 to post your entry and any notes explaining your decisions. You may include a backstory for your spy/intel agent (history, origin, etc.) if you so wish.
Once submissions have closed, all forum members will have until 22:59 (GMT+1) Monday April 11th 2011 to vote for their favourite. Whichever entry receives the most votes will win. In the event of a tie, I will cast the deciding vote.

Note: PST is -8 hours compared to GMT.

Contest Rules
:1mana: Your stat block may represent your spy/intel agent at any point during their lifetime. You may include multiple stat blocks to represent multiple points in your characters lifetime, provided that they are all different level versions of the same build (ie. no swapping out talents or feats through retraining)
:2mana: Your spy/intel agent must be created according to RAW, no house rules (no single Athletics skill), etc.
:3mana: You may generate your spy's/intel agent's ability scores by rolling, using the standard array or by using unlimited point buy provided that each score is between 3 and 18 at first level prior to species adjustments
:4mana: You may use any and all material from the official Star Wars Roleplaying Game: Saga Edition books
:5mana: You may change your entry at any point up until submissions close, at which point any edited stats will be disqualified
:6mana: You may only submit one entry

Have fun everyone and remember:
The Dark Side is always with you.

Ora's parents, secret agents of the Bothan Spynet died in a mysterious space accident, while she was still a baby. During his childhood, Ora travelled with his grandfather, a seller of computers and storage devices on the different colonies Bothan: Kothlis, Lashband and Moonus Mandel. She was almost as adult when she accompanied him for the first time on Coruscant. She falls in love with the planet and with a young bothan from the rich Alya clan. She decided to stay on Coruscant to make her life with the noble beautiful Askrut Riskir'Lya. Unfortunately, she discovered that Askrut Riskir'Lya was dishonest and that he was involved in cases of trafficking in slaves with the Hutts. She therefore found herself alone on the City Planet of Coruscant. It is then that she learns to fend for herself and she decided to undertake an independent private detective career. She worked mainly for noble women wanting to monitor their husbands. She conducted, several years in, a little motivating solitary life. During this time, she has totally invested in her espionage missions where she learned to defend themselves if necessary. Spotted by republican special services agents, she coms to engage in the service of the Rebublic. She joins a special intervention unit, unofficial of course, with other adventurers ...

The Defender sporting blaster pistol was made by the Drearian Defense Conglomerate. The DDC Defender was a low-powered weapon, meant for civilian self-defense and small-game hunting. The Defender could be disassembled within a few minutes into three pieces for easy storage or concealment as innocuous items which could pass through most security scans or personal searches. It was designed for ease of use and was very lightweight. It carried enough power for about 100 shots. See also SECR p127. Draw Swift action / Conceal Stealth Bonus +17

Before there was the Emperor's Hand, there was the Chancellor's Hand.  Trenjak was the secret agent of Chancellor Palpatine during the Clone Wars.  His force-sensitiviy been sensed by the chancellor on Coruscant, he rose from a life of gambling and smuggling to become the chancellor's special operative.  He received limited force training from the chancellor in secret (though he assumed that the chancellor was very learned, and never really caught on to the fact that his boss was a sith lord), but specialized in blending in, hiding his force sensitivity, and hardening his mind.

Trenjak was proficient with many weapons and carried a variety with him as he carried out the chancellor's often-questionable will.  Seeing his life improvement and reacting always with little to no emotion to the point of universal apathy, Tranjak never thought about what he was doing.  He simply acted as he was commanded and hoped for the best.

After a prosperous carreer serving the Republic, Tranjak met his demise around the time before Palpatine decided to emerge from hiding and strike end the war.  Tranjak was sent on a suicide mission into Seperatist space, where he was killed by magnaguards.  But, ever nihilistic, he decided before he died that he really didn't care anymore anyway.

*Fate’s Intelligence score has been increased using Tech Specialist (and later Superior Tech).  He has gained 2 additional skills and 4 additional languages as a result.

**When Fate multi-classed into Scout, he selected Weapon Prof (Rifles) as a bonus feat.  He later reprogrammed the feat to Skill Focus (Mechanics).

F8-TG was built by Arakyd Industries and originally commissioned as a butler and personal assistant for a wealthy nobleman.  F8-TG, or “Fate”, as his owner dubbed him, was very good at his job.  He became invaluable to his owner, scheduling parties, keeping track of appointments, and being a sound mind to talk to.  Fate’s owner regularly encouraged him to download information from the Holonet to gain knowledge and provide intellectual material for the pair to discuss.  However, this encouragement would eventually have dire consequences.  Fate became obsessed with the acquisition of knowledge and information, but that was only half the story:  He also discovered the possibilities of double meanings in words.  Given that many Arakyd droids override their behavioral inhibitors regularly, it wasn’t long before Fate began reprogramming himself.

Ever devoted to his master, Fate used his newfound knowledge and abilities to ‘help’ his master by creatively reinterpreting his master’s orders (and later, his opinions and off-hand remarks).  Fate was asked to take care of a nobleman who owed his master a debt during a party.  The nobleman was found dead in a reflecting pool later that evening.  Blunt trauma to the head from a fall was determined as the cause of death and ruled an accident.  In another instance, Fate’s master remarked how he would love to get his hands on a merchant’s business.  Over the course of several months, Fate used his computer skills to wreak havoc with the merchant’s finances.  In the end, Fate’s master bought the business for less than a third of its real value.  Eventually, Fate decided that he could not achieve his maximum potential if he was still considered the property of someone.  He secretly installed a bomb in his master’s airspeeder.  His master went for a spin and never came back.  Fate wasted no time:  He stole his master’s luxury yacht, plenty of money, and disappeared.

Fate established himself as a wandering information broker and spy-for-hire.  He capitalized on his ability to reprogram himself for particular jobs and situations.  He also utilized another feature of galactic society:  The typical person’s willingness to ignore droids as insignificant.  His outgoing nature and easy conversational skills enabled him to walk into more than one corporation, make some new friends, and walk out with some corporate secrets to sell.  As he gained more experience, Fate realized while he enjoyed the thrill of suckering people out of info, if he was caught he was in a lot of trouble.  He began using other droids in some of his bigger jobs, however, infiltrating his own droids into job sites was much more conspicuous than overriding a droid already in the building.  Many were Fate’s escapes when he made a droid, one familiar to its co-workers, go berserk while he walked out the building.

Fate maintains contacts with several Hutt clans, the Bothan Spynet, and a few other independent information dealers.  If someone needs a spy, just put the word out and Fate will see if you can use his services.  If you don’t, Fate has the unending patience of a droid:  Someone will need him, sometime, somewhere.  It’s just a matter of waiting for the right moment.

Background Bothawui

Character Notes:
Penumbra is an Umbaran who was raised on the Bothan homeworld of Bothawui. She is the trained prodigy of a high-ranking Bothan SpyNet agent.

Penumbra can get you any information you want, no matter where it is or who has it. She knows how to efficiently cut through bureaucratic red tape. She's good at locating people and finding secret information. She can use her decoy glowrod to smuggle small items into or out of a place.

When required, she can infiltrate any installation with her stealth. Since she has darkvision, she prefers to move about in the darkness of night. Also, she is an expert at knocking out an opponent with her stunning attacks. Any target who is not aware of her can be moved to the bottom of the Condition Track with one single shot:

-Dastardly Strike: -1 CT
-Set For Stun: -3 CT if you exceed threshold with stun damage
-Wrist Rocket Launcher, hollow-tip stun gas + Malkite Techniques: -1 CT if toxin beats target’s Fortitude Defense. Also, treat damage threshold as 5 less.

Penumbra is not her real name. Her real name is a secret known only to herself. She has not revealed it to anyone.

Bio:
Aath Kan grew up on Coruscant, a few years after the Purge. At the age of fifteen he discovered he had strange abilities, and he began to secretly practiced them. After few months, a squad of storm troopers appeared at his parent's apartment. The storm troopers began shooting the instant they saw Aath, filling the room with smoke and blaster fire. After it was over, Aath's parents were dead, though he had escaped, evading the troopers with his Force abilities. With nowhere to go, and hating the Empire, Aath join a under-ground group called The Agents of Ossus. They showed him how to use the Force to hide and fight, and he soon became a valued member of the group, striking out at the Empire any way he could. He helped destroy a secret Imperial experiment, and participated in a theft of important star fighter blue-prints.

Appearance:
Aath Kan is a yellow-skinned, hairless Zabrak with a crown of short horns, and brown head tattoos. He usually dresses in black, has black leather boots and gloves, and wears a large black trench coat. He carries two razor sharp Vibro-Blades, and a blaster pistol in a hidden holster.

I vote for Penumbra.  She reminds me of my own Umbaran infiltrator PC, Dexy.  I should have entered her!
I'm mad at myself too.  I had a great charlatan style infiltrator, boo my irresponsible nature and forgetting to enter.  I cry redo!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Not really.

Ok, so my thoughts:

Derf's Ora is a nice build, specializing in stealth and sneak attacks.  It's a good surprise element for a GM and has an extra little punch.  The back ground is goo, but a little winding, making it hard to get a feeling for the agent's personality.

Dendrite's Trenjak I like, it's an interesting take on the nihilistic/amoral agent that even as he was sent to his death he just didn't care.  I also liked the take with the PrC's that he was more like an under-cover cop rather than a "ninja" spy.  Small issue with using Nagai in the rise of the empire/CW era, but that is minimal.  Also a bit high level, it'd be nice to see some incirmental levels for use at different points.

Sienn's F8-TG is a great concept utilizing books and rules often ignored.  It also has that all era appropriateness, and is less combat centered.  This does make it a but less gimicky in combat, which is often where an NPC's build shines, but there is good personality in the write up.

Richter's Penumbra has that very scary CT damage, and an inventive inclusion of the background mechanic.  Also her actual damage output is a bit lower, so she is usable to scare/nuetralize PC's without killing them.

Jensaari's Aath is a good example of a mid-high CL NPC that doesn't need to have gimmicks in combat, but can still be surprising to PC's.  Though my PC's usually watch people in all black with black trench coats pretty hard Tongue out

All in all, great entries, but I'd have to give it up to Sienn's "Fate" for it's hide in plain sight mentality.  This is the kind of recurring Intelligence agent that could boggle PC's and drive home a sense of paranoia that is more than just being scared of the shadows.
My Blog, mostly about D&D.

When I and my friends sit down we want a game of heroic fantasy. Rare is the moment when I have cried out in a video game or RPG "that's unrealistic." (Unless there is no jump button. Seriously makes me mad, single handedly ruined the N64 zelda series for me, but that's a digression of a digression.) I mean, we play games with the force in galaxies far, far away, with supernatural horrors, dragons and demi-gods, alternate cosmologies, etc. Reality and it's effects hold little sway to what makes a Heroic fantasy game fun IMO. Just repeat after me: You are not a beautiful or unique snowflake. You are not how much you've spent on WotC products. You are not whatever RPG you play. You are one of tens of thousands of people that spend money on a hobby. You will not always get what you want
