Melee weapon ideas

Too often I see new players come up with very simple bludgeons for their melee weapon. The only nifty one I've seen was when a new player joined the group, got conned into doing a gladiator match against a Neep Neep and broke off its leg for his new melee (instead of a pipe) once he killed it.

I'm looking for things like bass guitars, car fenders, whips, etc. For some reason I can't think of many at any given time, so I thought a list of stuff here would be great.
My hawkoid yeti hefted around a mini-refridgerator mounted on a metal pole partially frozen inside it.
Some other creative melee weapons I've seen in my group so far have been:
-Crossing guard sign
-cast-iron skillets (dual-wielded)
-a very long towel (used like a whip)
-an old sniper rifle (no longer functional as a ranged weapon)
Posting here to give myself the pink square to remind myself that I want to add a lot fo things to this when my bladder is empty and my wife is not calling me to dinner!
Here are the PHB essentia, in my opinion:
  • Three Basic Rules (p 11)
  • Power Types and Usage (p 54)
  • Skills (p178-179)
  • Feats (p 192)
  • Rest and Recovery (p 263)
  • All of Chapter 9 [Combat] (p 264-295)
A player needs to read the sections for building his or her character -- race, class, powers, feats, equipment, etc. But those are PC-specific. The above list is for everyone, regardless of the race or class or build or concept they are playing.
Some ideas:

- Artificial Christmas tree (the whole thing)
- Barbed-wire fencing wrapped around a fence post
- Battlecloak (cape with iron weights sewn into the hem at the corners, which can be swung at the enemy as a flail-type weapon)
- Bowling ball in a purse
- Broken whiskey bottle
- Car axle with one wheel still attached
- CRT computer monitor, held by the cord and whipped around as a flail
- Fire axe
- Folding chair (two-handed, WWE-style)
- Garden hose (as either a heavy whip or a strangling garotte)
- Giant Christmas candy cane decoration
- Goalpost from an American football field
- Hatrack of dubious origin
- Lawnmower blade sword
- Longshank screwdriver (It's good for the ribs, if you know what I mean.)
- Magic 8-ball gear shifter
- Meat cleaver
- Meat hook on chain
- Muffler
- Petrified turkey or pterodactyl leg (depending on character size)
- Police riot baton
- Pruning shears (two-handed)
- Rolled-up Oriental rug (It really ties the room together!)
- Trash can lid (used as a shield bash)
- Unicycle (It doubles as half a bicycle!)

here a list my groups weapons:

A radio-active mexican jumping bean machine(giant gumball machine)
a diseased tentacle
a unicycle
a pudding-pop flail
the Sword of Omens ( referred to a Lionel's sword)
a pertrified baby seal club

and for ranged

a dirty diaper launcher
chainsaw shark gun

and the best by far...a frozen mel gibson bat slingshot

those are the more whimsical weapons of our group.

What is "the pink square" and why do I feel that Trojan should make it?

I have a yeti in my group that found a giant aircraft carrier anchor he's using as a melee weapon.

But the best melee weapon ever would be a flail made by pulling out the tape and swining around an old VHS copy of Cop Rock.

Once you click on a thread, the forum thread directory shows a pink square next to that thread title whenever someone has added new posts to it. If you post in it, then a little scroll icon also shows next to it.

Here are some things my kids came up with:

Melee
Street sign post; fence post; lamp post; kettle bell; baseball bat; golf club; candle holder; cleaver; metal Thermos; lunchbox; mop; broom; skillet; pitchfork; serving spoon; tent mallet; extension cord; tennis racket; hockey stick; folding chair; motorcycle front forks; tailpipe; axle; barbell; 4x4 mailbox post; stair hand rail; subway track; shovel; water bottle; toolbox; emergency call box; floor lamp; bowling pin

Ranged (a lot fewer of these)
Baseballs; golf balls; bowling ball; horseshoes; manhole cover

I was wondering what those boxes with numbers were. They look red on my screen. Thankee, sir.
Light melee Weapons - Crystallized Bible, Parn Mandlible, Fan Belt, Lightweight Chain, flail made out of Cat-5 cable and washers.

Light ranged weapons - die cast toys, glass bottles, croquet balls, lawn darts, wireless routers

Heavy melee weapons - Fossilized dinosaur thighbone, axe with a car's fan for a blade, muffler,

Shields - Routers, 1U switches,  Server Rack side panels,
posted melee weapons, but haven't posted my group's wacky ranged weapons yet:

-Anti-gravity yo-yo
-floating spike drones
-cat bazooka (the mythic character in our group has a bunch of cat worshippers. He fires his followers  from his bazooka. They scratch up the enemies' faces a bit and then they come running back to him)
-throw self (the doppleganger swarm threw copies of himself at opponents)
-tesla gun
-spork-launching crossbow
Light Melee - gumball machine, robot leg, street sign beaten into a crude ax, fence post, an oscar, bowling pins,

Light Ranged - Sling shot, water gun filled with acid rain water, highly modified nerf gun firing stefans, water baloon cannon (can fire other things besides water balloons, water gun filled with flammable liquid and turned into makeshift flame thrower.

Heavy Ranged - mechanical pitching machine, potato cannon, others when I think of it.
One of my players is using a broken shieldbot as melee weapon, ranged weapon, and shield.  When she pulls the appropriate wires, blades flick out, and others, it fires its laser.
, flail made out of Cat-5 cable and washers.

That sounds really painful.

Theres a whole host of natural weapons you could improvise too - if players want claws, fangs, horns, hooves, tentacles etc. . . most of those could fall under the same headings, since natural weapons arent specified in the book. Its what my group does.

Well, that's, like, your opinion...man.

Yeah, if one of my player's wants to just use natural weapons, I just decide whether the claw/bite/tentacle/beak would be a quick melee or heavy melee attack.

Somewhat related, one of my players rolled temporal/electrokinetic and read "temporal" as "tempura."
For that reason, his character is a time-travelling shrimp with an electric claw attack.

Sweet! A time-traveling pistol shrimp!
Most of the time my players are boring with their weapon descriptions. I've got a sword! I've got a gun! "BIG DEAL",  I tell them. So our Yeti/Cockroach came up with a 20 lbs dumbell on a rope to use as a fail. I think he did it to please me, but now she loves that thing!
Since the thread is lacking ranged weapons:
Fine China (thrown), Nailgun, Rail Spike Gun, Riveter, Faberge Eggs (thrown), Insect Hive (preferably fired from a cannon), Deck of Glass Hologram Cards

Melee:
Car Jack, Jackhammer, Chandelier, Blowtorch (with or without fuel), Umbrella made of metal sheets

Keep in mind, this is the year six monkey slap-slap, so things that did not exist in our time could exist in theirs.

moose - I'm glad someone picked up on that! Haha.

Crimson - The thread is probably lacking in ranged weapon ideas because it's titled "Melee weapon ideas." Tongue out

However, here are some ranged weapon ideas that aren't too over the top (Faberge eggs?? Really??)

Atl-atl
Bar darts
Bricks
CDs & DVDs
Glass shards
Hammer-throw "hammer"
Lacrosse stick and balls
Overclocked office stapler
Pool balls
Rats (reimagining the "Rat Swarm" origin as a "Willard" style character)
Vinyl albums (a la "Shaun of the Dead")
Xistera and pelota (jai alai equipment)

I stated Faberge Eggs because our setting is taking place in the LA Area... and my character is from Beverly Hills.

Haha, it's cool and all - my gf's character chucked a stack of PSPs as a ranged weapon. But wackiness aside, over-the-top choices like that make me think, "Wouldn't those be more valuable as trade goods than as ammunition? Why would you throw them away?"

I updated the collected list of armor/weapons.
