Worst/Most Useless Magic Card!

I don't know many Magic cards. But I would say the most worst/most useless Magic card is Mindless Null with Pyretic Ritual being a close sencond.

What do you think is the worst/most useless Magic card?
One With Nothing comes to mind. Sky Swallower is almost as bad though.

Pyretic Ritual is good, actually. It's almost like desperate ritual. This kind of card is meant to be used in a storm deck, where you cast spells for generating more mana, for more spells, for your finishing storm spell. It's not bad. Sure, rite of flame is better, but it doesn't make the ritual a bad card.

My vote goes for wurm's tooth, angel's feather, demon's horn and the rest of the cycle.

OK, thinking better, Ivory Cup, Crystal Rod and the rest of this cursed cycle!

I'd say all life_gaining artifacts.

They're not useless, though. Lifegain sucks in 2 player games (in general), but it can be used to stave off death for a turn and it's much better in multiplayer.

I don't know many Magic cards. But I would say the most worst/most useless Magic card is Mindless Null with Pyretic Ritual being a close sencond.

What do you think is the worst/most useless Magic card?

Pyretic Ritual is good, actually. It's almost like desperate ritual. This kind of card is meant to be used in a storm deck, where you cast spells for generating more mana, for more spells, for your finishing storm spell. It's not bad. Sure, rite of flame is better, but it doesn't make the ritual a bad card.

My vote goes for wurm's tooth, angel's feather, demon's horn and the rest of the cycle.

OK, thinking better, Ivory Cup, Crystal Rod and the rest of this cursed cycle!

I actually don't mind cards like Angel's Feather, Wurm's Tooth and the rest of that cycle, but I don't understand what the point of the other lot is, ones like Ivory Cup were you have to pay :1: to gain life. Did these come before and cards like Angel's Feather were made to replace them?

Correct.  The Ivory Cup cycle dates back to Alpha.  The "Lucky Charms" were printed in Darksteel to replace them.

@gerrador: Uh, that's a Sunburst card, of course you would never play it in a mono-color deck.  The whole point of that ability was to encourage playing all 5 colors.

And that card in particular can hose other cards with Sunburst (aka Charge Counters), which was incredibly relevant in-set.  And today, it kills Planeswalkers.  Hardly useless.

Ah, I understand now.

Also, the cycle of artefact life gain cards we were speaking of are handy for new players as well. Simple and easy to understand.

Touche!

They are simple to understand, but are useless. One life per spells is pretty much nothing and spending :2mana: and a card for it is terrible. And they are also at uncommon. I hate all of these cards. And besides, it also adds us the trouble of being forced to explain to every new player how bad these cards are.

Thats not really dealing with the creature in question, thats wiping the board.  He's just saying the card can do something in a certain situation.  Here, you can block it safely since it doesn't have trample - thats not saying Great Wall is a worthwhile card at present though.  (off-topic: was there an update several blocks back that prevented bouncing/sacrificing a creature after you declared it as a blocker, or is this myth.  I missed quite a few of the more recent ones.)

As for life-gain artifacts, they're not great, but I wouldn't say they're useless.  Kraken's Eye actually saved me near the end of the a multiplayer when i was massing into an Isochron control/bounce that kept bouncing my creatures, which I'd promptly re-cast to nullify a black madness deck swinging at me.  That said, they definitely could be a lot better, particularly in duels.

Anyhow, yeah, this topic seems to be a regular occurence lol.  Good to know someone's made a deck with Sorrow's Path though lol, it doesn't feel totally worthless to me, but would be some effort to work around.  Tongue out

Off the top of my head (and having probably missed more blocks than I've actually taken part in for various reasons - and when I say missed, i mean actually missed, as opposed to not being a player at the time), Great Wall probably comes close to it.  I can think of applications for One with Nothing, but they're by no means great ones.

Well, the main problem with Great Wall is that how useful it is is completely dependent on what your opponent is playing, and your opponent won't often be playing a deck that makes it useful. Nobody in their right mind would ever main-deck it, and having it in your sideboard is incredibly questionable. Until plainswalking decks start showing up in the metagame, it's a solution to a problem that never existed.

There was an update to the rules several blocks back in M10. One of the changes that was made is that damage no longer used the stack. This prevented a player from having their creature deal damage if they bounced/sacrificed it. That is probably what you are remembering, although you remembered it slightly incorrectly.

It's sweeping the board, of course, because that's the only way of getting rid of an indestructible creature with shroud. And this solution is way better than spending :2mana: and a card for being able to chumpblock every turn. Just being able, not getting chumpblockers. The fact that I wanted to show is that even assuming a super powerfull creature to exist (indestructible and shroud, really?) with Plainswalk, there are still much better options than Great Wall.

They can be a bit better in Multiplayer, because actually buying time can mean that you win (your opponent will attack another opponennt or die before killing you), together with the greater amount of cards that is played. However, in 1vs1they are terrible, and in Multiplayer there are probably better things that you could use.

Then put the message you want inside the tags, like you would do with autocarding. Like this: [c=Curse of the Cabal]Captain Never-resolves[/c] = Captain Never-resolves For using the decklist format, follow this: [deck] 4* Terramorphic Expanse 4* Evolving Wilds ... Oh, it's a brilliant plan. You see, Bolas was travelling through shadowmoor, causing trouble, when he saw a Wickerbough Elder with its stylin' dead scarecrow hat. Now, Bolas being Bolas took the awesome hat and he put it on his head, but even with all his titanic powers of magic he couldn't make it fit. He grabbed some more scarecrows, but then a little kithkin girl asked if he was trying to build a toupee. "BY ALL THE POWERS IN THE MULTIVERSE!" he roared, "I WILL HAVE A HAT WORTHY OF MY GLORY." and so he went through his Dark Lore of Doom (tm) looking for something he could make into a hat that would look as stylish on him as a scarecrow does on a treefolk. He thought about the Phyrexians, but they were covered in goopy oil that would make his nonexistant hair greasy. He Tried out angels for a while but they didn't sit quite right. Then, he looked under "e" (because in the Elder Draconic alphabet, "e" for Eldrazi is right next to "h" for Hat) in his Dark Lore of Doom and saw depictions of the Eldrazi, and all their forms. "THIS SHALL BE MY HAT!" he declared, poking a picture of Emrakul, "AND WITH IT I WILL USHER IN A NEW AGE OF DARKNESS -- ER, I MEAN A NEW AGE OF FASHION!" And so Nicol Bolas masterminded the release of the Eldrazi.

Pretty much - to make Great Wall work in that situation, you'd need other cards anyway.

Yes, that Isochron control was the only good deck in that game, but that kind of control isn't as effective in multiplayer anyway (it was actually made primarily for duels).  In my opinion, it's not a card you'd really want to include in a deck, but it's mana-efficient enough to be worth a shot in multiplayer at times.

It's bad, but do you know what it can do that Great Wall cannot? It has the potential to deal 6 damage to a player and can even block a creature, probably killing it. Besides, if we're talking bad creatures, then Wood Elemental is it, but even Wood Elemental is better than Great Wall for the same reasons Scoria Elemental is.

The most universally accepted answer to the question is Great Wall, closely followed by Sorrow's Path.

Yes, and every time this discussion comes up and someone inevitably mentions sorrow's path, I'm compelled to say that I have a functional and fun deck built around it.

I forget what you used in it.  Something like Swans of Bryn Argoll, Stuffy Doll, and Coalhauler Swine?

Zephyr Spirit has to be a close runner-up to Wood Elemental.  Sure, for every turn, it can perpetually block one creature without Trample or any evasion, but Wood Elemental can potentially be huge with Saprolings and Life and Limb (and casting it may even be advantageous if you suspect a Pyroclasm or Armageddon or if there's a Propaganda).
I always forget about Zephyr Spirit, because Wood Elemental is a much higher-profile wrong answer. but Zephyr Spirit can still have a minimal impact on a normal game. great wall can't.

This guy is a house in Limited with Bladed Pinions.  And the mana cost is hardly an issue; Scars limited is very slow, you will easily get to the 5 mana needed.

Srsly, people complain way too much without actually thinking about stuff like this.  Scoria isn't exactly the best thing ever, but he's not even the worst creature ever printed, let alone the worst card.
Also, the cycle of artefact life gain cards we were speaking of are handy for new players as well. Simple and easy to understand.

They are simple to understand, but are useless. One life per spells is pretty much nothing and spending :2mana: and a card for it is terrible. And they are also at uncommon. I hate all of these cards. And besides, it also adds us the trouble of being forced to explain to every new player how bad these cards are.
