This thread is to provide help to overcome some of the problems of the new CB.
Please, no comments on how awful it is.

1- EXPORT :

Oddly enough like many features that seem to be missing export is actually available, just not by any sensible simple straight forward method.

Go to vecna.wizards.com/ load up or create a character and then click the debug tab go to Character File, hit refresh. Click on that screen do Ctrl+A to select all, then Ctrl+C to copy it. Open notepad, paste it in as save the file as charactername.dnd4e

One exported character.

2 - CAN'T SELECT POWERS  :

I can not choose powers. The tab is there, almost empty, only a combobox, but it is empty itself. As I can not see it in the known issues, I guess it is not a bug, and I am missing something. Can someone help?

I have the same problem on a Swedish WinXP machine, and have reported it as a bug to WotC. It seems to depend on the regional settings.

A work-around that works for me is to:
1. Find where you can change the regional settings in your OS version, and make a note of your present settings.
2. Change your regional settings to "English (US)" or whatever is the corresponding US English setting in your language. (For me it was "Engelska (USA)".)
3. Then restart the Character Builder.
Result: You can select powers.

When you are done using the CB, you should probably change back to your old regional setting.

To change number, currency, time, and date settings on Windows XP:
1.Open Regional and Language Options in Control Panel.
2. On the Regional Options tab, under Standards and formats, click the locale whose date, time, number, and currency format you want to use.
(instructions from Microsofts support pages).

This is of course just a temporary work-around, not a good permanent solution.

I hope this helps you somewhat!

3- DAGGER IMPLEMENTS FOR SORCERER :

select and equip a superior implement dagger version of the dagger you wish.
Nice find on the debug screen.  Has anyone been able to load an exported character into iPlay4e?
Anyone know if there is a way to turn on the Inherent bonus feature. I hear people talking about it using the debug but how do you actually do it?
Follow the directions under EXPORT above. Open the file in your old offline builder. Click the "Inherent bonuses" checkbox and save the character. Import the character back into the new builder and the math will be there.

You can also hand edit the XML but if you don't want to spend time navigating it then that's the best way to go I think.

Hand editing may be required for some classes (I know essentials classes don't play well with the CBC).
so where and how would I do it manually? I'm doing it for Dark Sun and I am worried it would not work well with the old builder.... not to mention importing it back if it erases old things

I'm sure someone else can give you more details, but I'd use a search function to look for "inherent bonus" in the file.  Also possibly open a CBC character with inherent bonus enabled and do the same thing so you can compare the 2 and make whatever changes are needed.
That is the best idea. XML is nice because it's fairly human readable (unlike, say, binary data).  Just remember that everything nests so look to the tag for an explanation of what it is.

You can actually do quite a bit with manually editing this stuff.
Still can't find a whip anywhere.  It's listed in Character compendium as a superior one handed military weapon, but I can't seem to find it on the new character builder.  Anyone know where it's listed?

Thanks for starting this thread!
OK so I have tried doing what was sugested however I can not save the Inherent Bonus = True .... it keeps changing back to false every time i save.... how do I do it right XD
You need to actually copy it to a file and then import it back in as a new character. It won't work if you just try to edit it in the debug window (I assume that's what you're doing?)
I tried to do that yes but i also put it in a file named it "charactername".dnd4e out of a notepad file and edited the thing to true... trying to import it it just hangs and never finishes do I have to have both the XML and the Character info?

my builds
F-111 Interdictor Long (200+ squares) distance ally teleporter. With some warlord stuff. Broken in a plot way, not a power way.

Thought Switch Higher level build that grants upto 14 attacks on turn 1. If your allies play along, it's broken.

Elven Critters Crit op with crit generation. 5 of these will end anything. Broken.

King Fisher Optimized net user.  Moderate.

Boominator Fun catch-22 booming blade build with either strong or completely broken damage depending on your reading.

Very Distracting Warlock Lot's of dazing and major penalties to hit. Overpowered.

Pocket Protector Pixie Stealth Knight. Maximizing the defender's aura by being in an ally's/enemy's square.

Yakuza NinjIntimiAdin: Perma-stealth Striker that offers a little protection for ally's, and can intimidate bloodied enemies. Very Strong.

Chargeburgler with cheese Ranged attacks at the end of a charge along with perma-stealth. Solid, could be overpowered if tweaked.

Void Defender Defends giving a penalty to hit anyone but him, then removing himself from play. Can get somewhat broken in epic.

Scry and Die Attacking from around corners, while staying hidden. Moderate to broken, depending on the situation.

Skimisher Fly in, attack, and fly away. Also prevents enemies from coming close. Moderate to Broken depending on the enemy, but shouldn't make the game un-fun, as the rest of your team is at risk, and you have enough weaknesses.

Indestructible Simply won't die, even if you sleep though combat.  One of THE most abusive character in 4e.

Sir Robin (Bravely Charge Away) He automatically slows and pushes an enemy (5 squares), while charging away. Hard to rate it's power level, since it's terrain dependent.

Death's Gatekeeper A fun twist on a healic, making your party "unkillable". Overpowered to Broken, but shouldn't actually make the game un-fun, just TPK proof.

Death's Gatekeeper mk2, (Stealth Edition) Make your party "unkillable", and you hidden, while doing solid damage. Stronger then the above, but also easier for a DM to shut down. Broken, until your DM get's enough of it.

Domination and Death Dominate everything then kill them quickly. Only works @ 30, but is broken multiple ways.

Battlemind Mc Prone-Daze Protecting your allies by keeping enemies away. Quite powerful.

The Retaliator Getting hit deals more damage to the enemy then you receive yourself, and you can take plenty of hits. Heavy item dependency, Broken.

Dead Kobold Transit Teleports 98 squares a turn, and can bring someone along for the ride. Not fully built, so i can't judge the power.

Psilent Guardian Protect your allies, while being invisible. Overpowered, possibly broken.

Rune of Vengance Do lot's of damage while boosting your teams. Strong to slightly overpowered.

Charedent BarrageA charging ardent. Fine in a normal team, overpowered if there are 2 together, and easily broken in teams of 5.

Super Knight A tough, sticky, high damage knight. Strong.

Super Duper Knight Basically the same as super knight with items, making it far more broken.

Mora, the unkillable avenger Solid damage, while being neigh indestuctable. Overpowered, but not broken.

Swordburst Maximus At-Will Close Burst 3 that slide and prones. Protects allies with off actions. Strong, possibly over powered with the right party.

Okay, wow, the debug tab is showing item sets and broken down calculations and stuff...

Why doesn't the sheet show these things?
Because the design team who did no beta testing with their target audience assumed you wouldn't need that stuff.
Beautiful post.  Thank you for the information.  +1000

OD&D, 1E and 2E challenged the player. 3E challenged the character, not the player. Now 4E takes it a step further by challenging a GROUP OF PLAYERS to work together as a TEAM. That's why I love 4E.

"Challenge" is overrated.  "Immersion" is usually just a more pretentious way of saying "having fun playing D&D."
