Elf Hybrid Ranger-Seeker-MC Rogue/Sharpshooter/Thief of Legend

We are all victims.  I will seek justice.  Oh and I will steal the Wand of Orcus and give it to the poor.

Build Concept

To make the nastiest Ranged Basic Attack build possible with this build and serve as a controller.  I need to flesh everything out but this is the gist.  I am in a hurry so I will refine things later.


How I will steal the Wand of Orcus

Turn 1:

Sneak into the abyss with my passive stealth of 48 - wander around

Find Orcus

+38 Inititiative

Minor Action: Guiding Spirit - +5 to next ranged attack roll

Standard Action - Captivating Missle +43 vs Will - (roll 6 or higher, Elven accuracy/Dice of Auspicious Fortune in case I miss)

Dominate Orcus

Orcus... DROP... YOUR... WAND.  (Free Action)

Action Point

Impossible Theft: Teleport Orcus's wand to a safe house I have convenienlty set up in the Abyss.

Move/Minor Action - Ring of Retreat teleport to my safe house or Ring of Greater Invisibility

Waltz out Whistling - WoW (My clever acronym)

Even if I somehow die, I will steal my soul back and hock Orcus's wand to recoup my equipment.  After all it is priceless ;)


No but seriously this build is designed to be a RBA granters best friend and rule the cosmos via Sptting Cobra Stance.  It would be very easy for me to turn this into one of my NOVA freak out builds but I am resisting the tempatation and  attempting a viable controller build.  Let me know.  This build will be seeing further optimization with all of your help.

Ranged Basic Attacks



Spitting-Cobra Stance will allow this build to function more efficiently as a controller role.  When an enemy moves 1 square towards Kevin Costner (and who wouldn't it's Kevin Costner!) will trigger the movement/immediate reaction rule which will allow a basic attack or one of the following:

Grappling Spirits (at will) - target slowed and can't shift till the EONT - another words they aint gettin to me

Captivating Missle: Domination!

Sinking Earth: Restrained!


Level 30 Ranged Basic Attack

Let's face it, Kevin Costner is a control freak.
 
"Contrary to popular opinion," Kevin Costner says with a laugh, "I don't try to control the world."


So that settles that. The conversation about the actor-director's perceived sense of omnipotence was sparked by his reputation as being a stickler - and maybe a bit of a control freak - on films such as 1991's "Robin Hood, Prince of Thieves" and 1995's "Waterworld" (both directed by Kevin Reynolds) and on his sophomore directing job, 1997's "The Postman.



Ok so with that being established let's look how Kevin Costner plans to control throughout his career.


 


Level 1


Grappling Spirits is your primary At Will you will be using for control.  Slow is excellent in Heroic.

Possessing Spirits - Your first controlling ENC power.  It relies on a succesful forced Melee attack via the target to an adjacent enemy, but the payoff is well worth it.  A double Daze at Lvl 1.

Swarming Bats - Area Burst 2 zone of Combat Advantage with a preliminary slide 1 for each enemy within the burst.  Assume the position!


Level 3


Disruptive Strike - Basically prevent an attack to one of your allies per encounter.  They swing, you shoot the weapon, huge penalty to attack as an interrupt... sheer win.


Level 9


Springback shot - Enemy moves adjacent to you, shift 2 squares, smack em and immobilize them (save ends).  Another superb interrupt.

Level 11


Windspirits - An area burst 1 push/knock prone effect that is pretty much the farthest ranged in the game.


Level 15


Fey Sinkhole - the most awesome control power in kevin Costner's repertoire.  Creature starts turn in zone takes 5 damage and is dazed until SONT.  If creature leaves zone before the end of it's turn you can teleport the creature back into the zone as a free action.  Win Win Win!


Level 17


Entrapping Arrows - Burst 1 within 20. if the target leaves the burst before the start of your next turn you make an RBA free action that ends its movement if it hits.


Level 19


Captivating Missle - Kevin Costner has captured our hearts and minds with such inspirational films as Waterworld and Tin Cup.  This power is no different.  A Save Ends dominate as a RBA.  Wow.


Level 23


Sinking Earth - Restrained until end of next turn, adjacent creatures are slowed.  Kevin Costner likee.






Just Curious why Ranger Armor prof.??  You already have leather and you are loosing out on Prime shot and Called shot later on in your life as a ranger for just +1 to AC with Hide armor, and you can still take Hide armor prof later on if you really need too.. The +2 to Fort could be useful later with the superior armors, i guess.


Other than that this is really cool.   I do hope they make some changes to the Seeker so that is becomes a more respected and usable Controller class.



Thanks man!  Ya I really have been going over the whole Hide armor choice for my Hybrid feat.  On the one hand you are correct that the main reason I originally intended Hide armor was for the +2 FORT, but as you can see by the build I neglected this and selected Elderhide.  Boo. 

I realize I am missing out on alot of damage potential, but the way I look at it is I don't really intend to be closer to the target than my allies, soooo....

I guess I just have been paranoid about defenses as of late, and I suppose that's a good thing!

Oh and another BIG reason I went this way with the hybrid feat is I didn't want to spend the points in STR so I would have as a high a WIS and DEX as possible.
Ring of Retreat > Ring of Greater Invisibility.
Wishlist: -Alternate ability bonuses for pre-PHB3 races -Lots more superior implements or an official customization rule -Monk multiclass feat that grants Unarmed Combatant

Looks good MC though I agree with Halma 2. I think there is a better hybrid talent option then to pick up hide armor. If you want hide armor for the Fort bonus with some switching around of stats you could easily pick it up in Paragon Tier and then take hybrid talent in something else I like the Full Bloodbond ability myself. The ability to shift as a minor action is a big boon to archer types.
ya the only thing Im really missing is the Bloodbond shifting.  Ok I'll mess with it some more.
Why nimble strike instead of twin strike?
originally I was planning on not using the Bloodbond hybrid upgrade in favor of the Ranger armor proficiency.  Now I have changed my mind, so ya now that I don't need the At-Will shift it will be switched out.  I think.
Some concerns:

If you're counting on Spitting Cobra Stance (any way to recover it, or is it going to be 1/day?), you're going to be pretty close to enemies (4 squares or less)... meaning Prime/Called might well be worthwhile.  I would also consider either frost or mark of storm shenanigans, since one will improve your control and the other will improve your damage output and accuracy.

Also, I'm not aware of any "passive stealth" score unless you have a way of always taking 10.  Have you done anything extra to take advantage of stealth?  Do you have a way of becoming hidden without running around corners?  I'm not noticing anything among the utilities.  As it stands, it seems like you're going to start most encounters hidden, and that's about it.

Any way of applying your sneak attack damage?  Are you going to be using ranger powers at all to get your quarry damage, or is that kind of out the window? 

I'm pretty sure you can't swap out the level 20 daily for an encounter power with reserve maneuver.

Do you have a means of not provoking OAs when using ranged powers while adjacent?  Again, if you're going to be relying on Spitting Cobra Stance, you're going to have some enemies in your face.  If you happen to be immobilized, restrained, dazed, etc., are you going to be eating attacks?

I'm very up in the air of whether to go with Bloodbond or Prime Shot.  On one hand I see your point with Spitting Cobra, but that is only once a day.  i will prob Go with Bloodbond.

Thief of Legend gives me the passive stealth score.  it is quite unique in that regard.

I have blurred Stride as a daily at level 6.  Thats about it.  the build isnt supposed to be ALL about Stealth really, but I suppose it could be?

Sneak attack is really not an option to optimize with the multi class stricture (1 per ENC) - so useless
I only picked the MC for thievery otherwise I would have went for Cunning Sneak.

I will need to address the OA issue, I thought Sharpshooter addressed that, now I see that is only for my OA's against their OA's.  A change in PP may unfortunately be in order.

By virtue of being a player your characters are the protagonists in a heroic fantasy game even at level one

Found it intresting, I was also building a charcter similar to this so im checking out other posts to optimize my charcter.
Do have lots of paths to update it.
And mix in some Necromancy.
