This thread is for discussion of this week's From the Lab, which goes live Thursday morning on magicthegathering.com.
I voted for the collector number deck. Have fun, sucker! Actually if you make something interesting out of it I'll be very impressed. At least your colors are likely to be consistent!

Another article on this website already built around Dragon Appeasement once. It did two things: lose, and win without Dragon Appeasement.
I'd be impressed if youmade something PLAYABLE, seeing as there's no land exemption on that one :P
I really wanted the collection number one, unfortunately it's really hard to search for in Gatherer...
unless I'm missing a trick to it.

Instead, I voted for the word.
I like the collector number deck idea. I wanna see how that works out!

I also like how everyone's trying to make a Knight deck now. I made a casual one with Paladin en-Vec, Leonin Skyhunter (instead of knight of sursi), Honor of the Pure, and a singleton Sun Titan. I'm not all that partial to the levelers... maybe Student of Warfare, but I'd rather a flier or a creature with protection. If I ever figure out how to autocard, I'll post up a list.
I really have a soft spot for mortician beetle because I am in school to become a licensed mortician myself. I have also been working on a demon of death's gate decklist (even though I don't own any to date) so this deck was particularly interesting to me. Great article!
Don't be too smart to have fun
There's another Knight lord, who gets forgotten surprisingly often for a card that saw Standard play: Haakon, Stromgald Scourge. Admittedly it's a bit tricky to play with him, but the inevitability he offers is even stronger than Knight Exemplar's.

I'm a little surprised also that you didn't include Wilt-Leaf Liege. In fact, there's a fairly scary green-white Knight deck to be built using Lieges and Bant knights like Steward of Valeron.

I love the wacky exploitation of Stormtide Leviathan, though. Good stuff.

The best trick I have is just to go expansion by expansion. I think the earliest expansions didn't have the number on the cards though. I'm not sure if it was always alphabetical but basically I'd start with the newest expansion pull up a list of cards. It won't take long to find the one you're looking for and pull up the next card. Or he could just list the pool in the article that way only one person has to do it.
I voted for the expansion number but I really hope that the article contains the list so I don't have to do the searching myself.

The word one seems pretty cool too so either way I think it will be enjoyable.

I had the same deck idea when Stormtide Leviathan was previewed.  The line "all lands are islands" got me going.  A quick search through Gatherer for "for each island" and "number of islands" popped up some interesting cards.  That's when I saw the Carpet of Flowers + Typhoon & Hurricane theme.  Ramping to the Leviathan could be tough, but adding in Spreading Seas is a great idea.  I'd replace the Aquitect's Will with Convincing Mirage to continue the land-denial strategy.  Killing your opponents early off-color lands gives you a strong defense.  Then you can ramp into the Leviathan with the Carpet.  Followed with bashing to the head and some "green burn" for the win.
I liked the Flowerstorm deck a lot, but I was expecting to see Quicksilver Fountain there. It's perfect for this strategy.
OMG click HERE! OMG! How to autocard and use decklist format
For autocarding, write [c][/c] with the name of the card inside it. [c]Island[/c] = Island For linking a card to Gatherer without writting the name of said card for readers, use the autocard brackets together with and equal sign and right the name of the real card. Then put the message you want inside the tags, like you would do with autocarding. Like this: [c=Curse of the Cabal]Captain Never-resolves[/c] = Captain Never-resolves For using the decklist format, follow this: [deck] 4* Terramorphic Expanse 4* Evolving Wilds ... [/deck] It equals:

I like storm crow because I really like crows in real life, as an animal, and the card isn't terribly stupid, but packs a good deal of nostalgia and also a chunck of the game's history. So it's perhaps one of the cards I have most affection to, but not because "lol storm crow is bad hurr hurr durr".

Now, now. 1994 doesn't quite qualify as "ancient".

Oh, it's a brilliant plan. You see, Bolas was travelling through shadowmoor, causing trouble, when he saw a Wickerbough Elder with its stylin' dead scarecrow hat. Now, Bolas being Bolas took the awesome hat and he put it on his head, but even with all his titanic powers of magic he couldn't make it fit. He grabbed some more scarecrows, but then a little kithkin girl asked if he was trying to build a toupee. "BY ALL THE POWERS IN THE MULTIVERSE!" he roared, "I WILL HAVE A HAT WORTHY OF MY GLORY." and so he went through his Dark Lore of Doom (tm) looking for something he could make into a hat that would look as stylish on him as a scarecrow does on a treefolk. He thought about the Phyrexians, but they were covered in goopy oil that would make his nonexistant hair greasy. He Tried out angels for a while but they didn't sit quite right. Then, he looked under "e" (because in the Elder Draconic alphabet, "e" for Eldrazi is right next to "h" for Hat) in his Dark Lore of Doom and saw depictions of the Eldrazi, and all their forms. "THIS SHALL BE MY HAT!" he declared, poking a picture of Emrakul, "AND WITH IT I WILL USHER IN A NEW AGE OF DARKNESS -- ER, I MEAN A NEW AGE OF FASHION!" And so Nicol Bolas masterminded the release of the Eldrazi.

Really? Really? The last couple days have been roughly every perverse fetish imaginable, but it only got "creepy" when speculation on Mother of Runes's mob affiliation came up?

Yeah, really. If my deck was going to cost $1000+, I'd at least make it good.

Absolutely. I used to loose to my buddy's Banding deck for ages, it was then that I found out about Tolaria, and I was finally able win my first game.

Playing Magic without Blue is like sleeping without any sheets or blankets. You can do it...but why?

Just do it like Yu-Gi-Oh or monkeys: throw all the crap you got at them and hope it works or else the by-standers (or opponents) just get dirty and pissed.

It's true that Alpha and Beta didn't contain any cards like Tarmogoyf, Darksteel Colossus, or Platinum Angel. It just contained weak, insignificant cards like Black Lotus, Mox Sapphire, and Time Walk.
Normally it's difficult to pick up on your jokes/sarcasm. But this one's pretty much out there. Good progress. You have moved up to Humanoid. You'll be Human in no time.

I personally like to Flower Storm deck the best as well. I plan on changing it slightly though...

I want to add Convincing Mirage (as has already been stated), Cold-Eyed Selkie, and possibly either Mishra's Helix or Icy Manipulator to tap down their lands/permanents as they play new lands especially (though I'm looking for a better option).
Here's the Knight deck I'm working with (again, a strictly casual deck).

x18 Plains
x2 Emeria, the Sky Ruin

x4 Knight of Meadowgrain
x4 Leonin Skyhunter
x4 Knight Exemplar
x3 Paladin en-Vec
x3 White Shield Crusader
x2 Kinsbaile Cavalier
x1 Sun Titan

x4 Honor of the Pure
x4 Path to Exile
x3 Harm's Way
x2 Loxodon Warhammer
x3 Griffin Guide
x3 Oblivion Ring

- x4 Brave the Elements
- x4 Silver Knight
- x4 White Knight
- x1 Kinsbaile Cavalier
- x2 Emerge Unscathed

The meta that I came from has some disruption, but not a lot. Also no one playing burn or counter spells (lucky me). So the creature-based decks (old school Bant, Vampires, Goblins) are the main threats along with big multiplayer contenders being 5CC, mono-Black control, and W/R Allies... oh and Vampires again.

The 2 (are there more?) Knight decks I've seen posted in articles here since M11's release go with levelers and Knight of the White Orchid (splashing green for Knight of the Reliquary and Steward of Valeron) but aside from Knight Exemplar I see no pumps in equipment or enchantments. While I see Student of Warfare being the best of the White levelers, I'd rather have some evasion coupled with my spot removal. Additionally, while it totally ruins the tribal theme I like the singleton Sun Titan as it coupled with Emeria, the Sky Ruin can revive just about every permanent in the deck.
