Magic Online Judge Open

The Magic Online Judge Open (MOJO) is a free Magic Online sealed deck tournament (Rise of the Eldrazi) open to all certified judges around the World. Because of time zones and a desire to let as many judges play as possible, it actually consists of two tournaments over consecutive weekends. (Every judge is invited to the first one. Every judge who doesn't participate in the first one is invited to the second.)

0700 PDT 26 June/ 1400 UTC 26 June
1700 PDT 02 July / 0000 UTC 03 July
[Please triple check what these times are in your region.]

Some goals of the Magic Online Judge Open include:

- To thank you for all your efforts, both at tournaments and outside of them
- To give you a day of Magic where you don't have to worry about giving, or even getting, a single penalty
- And to give you a chance to spend some quality time with your peers and make some new friends from around the globe

Prize Support
-------------
Just for playing, we'll make sure you get an alternate art promo Scent of Cinder. This card, even in a non-promo version, won't actually be available to the rest of MTGO until April 2011! To make it even better, it WILL be legal in formats such as Classic/Legacy even before Urza's makes its official online debut!

There are Magic Online booster pack prizes, based on player attendance, that are consistent with the prize payouts of a typical Daily Event.

If you make Top 8, you'll also be rewarded with a Judge Art Orim's Chant! This is a promo that will enter circulation shortly after the tournaments, but you'll get to be the first 16 people to have them on Magic Online.

And if you're curious about what happens if you actually WIN one of these two tournaments...

The winner of each tournament will be awarded travel sponsorship to judge any Pro Tour (or Worlds) of their choice in the next year! You don't even have to be L2+ to be eligible for this sponsorship, but you do need to be at least 18. (Judges under 18 are welcome to play and win any of the other fantastic prizes, but the legal department prevents us from providing minors with travel. Sorry!)

And if you can't make it to either of the events, you'll be missed - but you won't be missing out completely; if you don't compete in either event, but have properly registered your Magic Online name, you'll still get 6 packs deposited into your Magic Online account a few weeks after the event.

IMPORTANT INFO
--------------
To be eligible to play, you MUST have your MTGO username listed with your DCIF (dcifamily.org) account. (Click "Edit my profile" from the left menu.) This must be done BEFORE 12 June. If you've already entered it, you might want to double check to make sure it's accurate.

Also, make sure the field contains ONLY your Magic Online username. If your username is "A Johny Vengeant", enter that - not something like: "A Johny Vengeant (lol - get it?)"

The events will be set up during the downtime on the Wednesday Prior to the event. Players can register any time after that and before the event begins. Note that once you register, you should be sure to be present at the start of the tournament! If you're not...
- You'll get 6 opened boosters in your account instead of the 6 sealed you'd get for not playing at all.
- Your first round opponent will more or less get a bye. This is no fun for anyone.
- If it is the first of the two events, you'll count as having played in one and won't be eligible for the second one.

If you've entered your MTGO name into DCIFamily and when the tournament is built on MTGO you don't see your name, contact me *immediately* and I will try to resolve it for you.

Tips & Other Notes:
-------------------
If you don't have a Magic Online account, it's not too late to sign up! tinyurl.com/getmtgo
And if you haven't played Magic Online before, I'd suggest playing a few games to make sure you get the hang of it.
Come game day, if you wanted to update your MTGO profile to list your name and country/region, that'd be fun.
Be sure to join #mtgjudge on efnet, as there should be tons of other judges there and it'll be a fun place to hang out in between rounds. (If you want an easy web client, you can go to dcifamily.org/irc)

LOL, I was planning on trying to do my L1 test with Lee during the community cup.  Looks like if I pass I'll make it just in time to sign up for this, heh.

Extra incentive, I suppose ;)

Does that mean you will HJ the next pre-release instead of me?

If you make Top 8, you'll also be rewarded with a Judge Art Orim's Chant! This is a promo that will enter circulation shortly after the tournaments, but you'll get to be the first 16 people to have them on Magic Online.

So the important thing to note here is that Orim's Chant will be the MOCS promo for the June MOCS?  since that will be run on July 4th? Or July 3rd depending on time zone...

Calavera on MTGO I collect Zendikar Foil Basic lands. Trade me yours! Things that I want to see changed on MTGO: 1: 64 man drafts added to rotation of Events. 2: Visual/Audible Notification of disconnect, deckbuild/afk time expiring and round starts. 3: Prize Payouts as close to draft sets as possible. 4: Rotate Classic draft queues monthly! 5: MOCS level events for Classic/Pauper 6: Power 9! 7: Award Promo Cards for Constructed PEs (esp for Legacy/Classic) 8: Program Split option back in! 9: Set Favorite version in deck editor (i.e. always use x swamp) 10: Better sorting of gold cards in deck editor. 11: Bring leagues Back!

WOW.
Who even knew that were judges for Magic Online?

Guess what? Chicken butt.

Not sure if that was a joke, but the tournament is for IRL judges, but will be played online.

Heck if I know.
Might not even pass.
Plus you've already made a shady back ally deal, who am I to infringe on that?

Don't read this as a complaint, but what exactly about releasing a particular promo card restores your faith in the "Wizzos"?

It's not like I'm completely restoring my faith, but atleast they are giving out good enough MOCS card for people to actually want to play to try to get a card. I mean look at teh crap we've gotten the last two months Emria Angel and Jace Beleren. Seriously those should have never been a MOCS card ever! Plus it helps wit the price of Orim's Chant which will be great for many Legacy players who are ona a budget and wasnt to run scepter chant and such.

So I guess they are not really restoring my faith at all haha, but they are at least trying harder to give out better incentives. Chrome Mox this month is also a fairly decent MOCS, but Orim's takes the cake. It's safe to say I was overwhelemed with excitement to actually bother to get a playset of of Chants now, and I said faith out of context. We all know WOTC has a long way to go yet, and this is by no means going to make me start spending money on thier game again. Not yet not until they have made amends and fixes thier rulings, better customer service, and offically fix the situation with the splits.

Chrom Mox sees much more play in Legacy (and Classic) then Chant.
Chant is a niche card, Mox is used in several decks.

Very true Mox is the better card in terms of playablility, but as far as prices goes Chant is better in that sense. I am able to get reg Mox for 5-7 and bought myself a playset of foils last month for around 11 each whereas Chant is a 36 ticket card and the foil will run you upwards of 200 tix. This is the main thing I wanted to point out that WOTC is actually giving out cards that are worth more than a few tickets here and there for a change.
