Impact of [ROE SPOILER] on Standard 2!

The old one got closed for stupid reasons, but it was a good thread that had a lot of good discussion in it.  So yeah, continue.

SUMMARY:  What do you think the cards spoiled thusfar in Rise of the Eldrazi are going to do to the standard environment?  What cards are good, what are bad?  All discussions should go here.

(Let's face it, they're not re-opening the old one, I've seen one re-opening ever [although it was fairly recent]).

(All credit for the idea and original thread go to NivMizzet the Firemind.  Hope this is cool with him )
REMEMBER FLUFFY, mercilessly slain by the bastard Useless Mancer
Fluffy, the cute and cuddly baloth beatstick of marshmellowy fluffyness and lolz, om-nom-noming Keeper's wicked soul; its insane, deadly amount of cuteness rips the fabric of reality to shreds, its pink, soft, round teeth dripping with honey, every breath spreading the repugnant smell of fresh flowers, this horrifying creature of destruction devastates Keeper by spreading its deadly, all-powerful fluff over the countryside, laying waste to dragon and furry bunny alike. It comes howling out of the east, an endless rattling and gnashing of teeth, a twisted grinding pull on the very fabric of reality threatening to consume body and mind alike in an endless glimmering pink torrent. Nothing is more terrible than the sun glittering on its teeth, save perhaps the light glancing off the oily tones of the sequins that cover its hotpants. Of course, there was that child who tried to eat Fluffy, mistaking him for a giant, walking piece of cotton candy. That child... is now the almighty leader of Fluffy, controlling his every move, sending him to devour the people that cross his path. And Keeper. Because we said so. Nothing can stop Fluffy's march to victory, spreading the sweet smell of strawberries where ever it lays its mighty paw. Followed by many jolly fairies singing joyful songs about Fluffy's cuddlyness, the baloth wanders the mountains of Zendikarland on a quest to share the love with Keeper, tough love that is...
Fluffy, we'll miss you friend. We'll miss you...

I don't like playing green, I will be playing Green for the next year at least. This is silly how good green is.

I really like that 2 mana shapeshifter, it's pretty much a blue Fires, only sillier.
I'm thinking some sort of UG agro with it, any other ideas for the little guy?

green decks would rather play windstorm.

i'm still holding out for a counterspell (most likely in vein)

and i highly doubt a UG tempo deck is possible.  the only reason it has worked in the past is because of the removal that was available, or that the deck was just that good and fast in the meta.  (psionic blast, umezawa's jitte, the madness deck)

Madness was my favorite deck of all time, I miss UG so.

So if pure speed won't get it there what do you think the shapeshifter is capable of, he's obviously pretty solid.

awakening zone is a rampant growth that can be saved up.

even if you use that token every turn, you'll always have +1 mana

only downside is 3 instead of 2, and since it doesn't actually get a land it's disruptible by pulse or pridemage or whatever
That counterspell seems kind of bad to me.  I like Cancel better.  Returning a land is "like shooting yourself in the foot against aggro" as someone in FSS said.

Britain and Spain are, to me, completely inaccessible due to the Atlantic Ocean, not to mention volcanoes and socialism. I sound like I'm bashing European nations, and I guess I kind of am. If you enjoy living in France, Luxembourg, Poland or any other, older nation, that's fantastic. I just don't see why there's such a huge uproar about a volcano that is mostly affecting a niche group of people.

I'm real happy for you, and I'mma let you finish, but pillarfield ox has one of the best pieces of art of all time. Of all time.
Really? I don't really see the greatness.
It's an Ox. In a PILLARFIELD. That's like, a field of frickin' PILLARS, but to this Ox it just looks like an ordinary field of grass - because he is so BADASS.

Finally, Master Yumyums just had probably the most boring, worthless card in the entire contest. Why would you need to give creatures -1/-0 on your turn? To beat them down with your nonflying blue aggro deck that plays a bad win condition card to win (and if you are playing the critters, why aren't you winning with them?!)? And the win condition itself is so mindblowingly difficult it seems like it was only made simply to fit the criteria.
Derivative Radial Tangent Calculation of Pure, Absolute, Utmost, Uncontestable and Utter Doom Newton's Second Law of Equations As an additional calculation to add to ~, reveal a Mathematical Equation from your hand, with a converted mana casting cost equal to a Prime Number. (Prime numbers are 2, 3, 5, 7, 11 13, 17...) ~ costs ƒ(x) = Σπ(δƒ(u)-ƒ(x)) if you're a fan of René Descartes in Facebook. ~ deals X damage to each creature your opponents control within a radius of X KM from ~, where X is the revealed Equation's converted mana cost. ~ deals Y damages to target player, where Y is the area of the Sphere (using the first 50 digits of pi as pi). ~ deals Z less damage, where Z is the distance in Lightyears from the centerpoint of the Sphere. Add up X, Y and Z and round it up to the closest number. Multiply the damage ~ would deal by m, where m is the number of multiples of that number. Calculate the first 50 Fibonaci numbers: Deal the difference between the 25-50th numbers, and the first 25 numbers. As long as the angular acceleration of an object t approaches maximum velocity relative to the cross product of a vector n and its bisector as the object passes through point Q at vector n's convergence in zero gravity, Disastrous Radial Tangent Calculation can't be countered. As long as you can do a geometric proof of anything on this card, target opponent must be doing one. Otherwise, he or she loses the game. (both games. you just lost the game.)
With 2 instances of Jellyfish, and 6 of Gomazoa in the orb, I want to see a new man-o-war pretty bad.

6 of Gomazoa but only 2 are Jellyfish?  Weird.  JELLYFISH TRIBAL!!  :D

My guess is one self references a lot and is only good in sealed. But the other better be a 0/4 defender man-o-war.
Functional reprint of Terramorphic is failsauce.

why?
Dudes, Vengevine is Nutzwitz, and the Doppelganger is IMO mega under rated.

So I was playtesting this Bant deck with both, and at this point on turn 6 or 7 I had 2 venges on my GY and a doppelganger and a noble hierarch in hand, I cast them both and WANG swing for 12 just like that. Crazy stuff.

Also, the Vengevine-Momentous Fall shennanigans are insahahahahahaaiine.

I'm telling you, get your set of those babies soon, cus otherwise you'll get walletslayed once again (as if it didnt happen often...)

What else to say? Gideon is insanely strong too, if you keep your enemy fairly controled until he comes out, that could pretty much be it.

His ultimate is pro, but the +2 and -2 abilities are what make him seriously.

Oh, and the rebound sacrifice card is SOO effing annoying man! It's borderline Borken IMO.
Well not really, but still.

ANyway, that's my 2 cents.

I thought the set was gonna suck a lot more, but instead the few cards that are worth it are really worth it. Shame is such a big set and that the rest is utter garbage though. Oh well.
Green aggro is gonna be pretty powerful for the next 6 months, though RDW is actually getting a better matchup against them and Jund as well. MBC looks like a very solid deck, though it's going to take some serious meta settling before a decent list gets generated.

Still kinda irked that vengevine is a mythic. It's a very strong creature, regardless of the recursion.

I figured Valakut decks would be happy to have some more copies of Terramorphic, to find green sources.

In block, too, I think this makes a lot of sense.
Could be a pattern of no longer having a literal reprint of some cards (white knight, Birds of paradise) in 10+ sets. It's not really a bad move as long as the limited formats are the main reason for reprinting, and other formats are minimally impacted.

Different names on commons is hardly a money grab.

all of these are good representations of what I'm expecting

vengevine is goodstuff, and especially making lategame hierarchs relevent is pretty amazing
the doppelganger is just borken (not really) but it does have some nice tricks up its sleeves

gideon is just an amazingly strong planeswalker, I'm kind of wondering if he might be "Better" than jace in this standard since he could potentially impact more deck types, and has an impact on matchups that better suit the metagame. what is peoples oppinions on gideon compared to jace?

I'll give you the birds (teehee), but I'm fine with changing commons to match flavor/have EDH overlap in mana bases.

The only one I'm upset with is Remove Soul, what am I going to do with a playset of this textless junk. . .

Gideon costs 1 mana to much to be any good, also good luck using his +2 ever.

He's a Chimeric Idol you can burn out when it's off imho.

His +2 is why he's so amazing in a control deck. Between Jace and Gideon, you have to be throwing down 3 creatures a turn to make them stick, or have some serious burn/haste to deal with them efficiently.

Saggershock is pretty solid, the numbers on the card throw off my card evaluation skills though untill you realize it's a bad (splashable) flame javelin when pointed at the dome.
Every time I build a black deck I start with a relfex of 4 Hypnotic Specters, and then replace them with the more solid, but more boring Vampire Nighthawk.

Renegade Doppleganger has made my love my old specters again. t2 shapeshifter, into a specter for CA beats, and if they both survive to turn 4 it's disgusting (alongside a tar pit activation) U/B CA flyers looks to be a blast.

Glux showed me a specter list that was simply mean. Definitely eats the opponent's hand quickly.

Ideally they'll be topdecking on turn 4, after that does it move into counter and draw and just kill with manland and flyers or should a sphinx of some sort come down?
It's mostly just removal and specter/blightning beatdown.

Photobucket
Duh, unearth specter is kinda good, that's what I get for being locked into 2 color mode for some reason.

How is RDW supposed to beat Mono green aggro? They can't swing through their guys, their clock is nearly as fast, and they pack things like Momentus Fall MD, which basically read GG for the RDW player.

Pack more removal i guess, kill mana dorks with the rebound shock to prevent acceleration. I don't know how they deal with leatherback baloth once it's out though...splash black for quality removals? As long as RDW can keep them from accel->big dudes, momentus fall is not going to be a problem.
Awakening Zone
Enchantment (R)

At the beginning of your upkeep, put a 0/1 colorless Eldrazi Spawn creature token onto the battlefield. It has "Sacrifice this creature: Add to your mana pool."

Will this card have any impact on the environment?

Sure, why not? It works with Polymorph, and at the worst it allows you to keep one non-flying creature w/out trample at bay.
Turn 3 Polymorph does seem intriguing. That and it comes out early enough to power out a Turn 3 Kazuul or SGC. Red acceleration is always good in my book.

Bleh, got the rarity and mana cost confused. In this case, at 2G, it won't have much of an effect as Green already has a massive amount of accel. And lands have less risk of being destroyed than Eldrazi tokens.

I'm reading over the spoiler listing again, and I'm curious to see if Devastating Summons finds a home in RDW. If the current mockup is accurate, I'd say probably no, but if it were printed as an instant, or if the tokens got haste I think it could work.

Actually, I take that back, if the tokens got haste it wouldn't just work, it would be completely unfair, so it's unlikely that will be the case. If they were printed as an instant you could play them at the end of your opponent's turn, after they were tapped out, and that would probably be too good as well. I guess RDW doesn't need anymore help.

It's still a dcent card to maindeck until you face a deck that runs counters.

The amount of people who are taking "dude recall" as a personal affront over in the ICD are hilarious.

As for me I'm surprised they printed it at common, after making Hatching Plans a rare, aside from the obvious, drop token maker, draw 3 in Tapout, any other ideas with it?

I'm sure there's a bant tokens list that could use it in standard. Other than that, interesting EDH card.

:P i made a small and quick list off the top of my head of cards that go well with the recall fixed thingy on the ICD lol
