Red Nikto and the Morgukai Talent Tree… (PEACH)

Well… since Saga is ending, and I doubt very much so that this will be covered in the upcoming final book… I figured I’d give it a go. As far as the Red Nikto goes, I basically converted it from the RCR's UAA book using the official Saga conversion rules pdf. Anyway… without further adieu:

KAJAIN’SA’NIKTO (RED NIKTO) SPECIES TRAITS
Kajain’sa’Nikto Share the following species traits:
Ability Modifiers: +2 Constitution, - 2 Intelligence. Although hearty fighters and extremely durable, Kajain’sa’Nikto are often single-minded and irrational at times.
Medium Size: As Medium creatures, Kajain’sa’Nikto have no special bonuses or penalties due to their size.
Speed: Kajain’sa’Nikto base speed is 6 squares.
Natural Armor: Kajain’sa’Nikto’s have a thick hide which provides a +1 natural armor bonus to their Reflex Defense. A natural armor bonus stacks with an armor bonus.
Dessert Dweller: Since all Nikto live in harsh environments they have become accustomed to them. A Kajain’sa’Nikto may choose to reroll any Survival check, but the result must be accepted even if it is worse. In addition, a Kajain’sa’Nikto does not require a field kit in order to endure extreme heat temperatures.
            Automatic Languages: Basic and Nikto.

MORGUKAI TALENT TREE
Little is known of the Morgukai other than their code of honor and hatred of Jedi. To these ends, Morgukai practitioners were expected to make their own armor and staffs with rare Cortosis alloy. They also have been known to developed mental exercises in order to resist the Jedi mind trick. Only Force-users that are part of the Morgukai tradition may select talents from this tree.
Attune Armor: As a full-round action, you may spend a Force Point to attune a suit of armor to the Force, permanently increasing its armor bonus by +2. Additionally, the suit gains DR 1. Only you can benefit from wearing the attuned armor.
Cortosis Block: As a reaction you negate a melee attack by making a successful Use the Force check. Use the rules found on page 41 of SECR. Additionally, if the negated attack originated from a lightsaber blade, the lightsaber is deactivated. (See: Cortosis gauntlet rules, LECG for listing.)
Sense of Honor: Once per encounter when you damage a Force-sensitive opponent, you may immediately gain one spent Force power, as a reaction, to your Force Suite. Additionally, you gain one temporary Force Point that must be used prior to the end of the encounter.
Single-mindedness: Whenever you are the target of a Persuasion check or a mind-affecting effect, you gain a +5 bonus to your Will Defense.

Nice work, I always liked these guys and I like your Talents a great deal!

I found the following at saga-edition.com/category/force/force-tr...

Here is what they had:

Background:

Little was known of the order, but its members (usually of the Kajain’sa’Nikto race) were renowned for their intense hatred of the Jedi and their strict code of honor. Morgukai followers used armor and staffs infused with cortosis alloy, which was resistant to the lightsabers used by their Jedi nemesis. To fight their sworn enemies, they developed mental exercises to resist the Jedi mind trick.

Their order bore some similarity to that of the Jedi. Fathers took their sons as apprentices, training them in the deadly arts. An example of this is the master-student bond between the Nikto Tsyr and Bok. Also, Morgukai initiates were required to build their own cortosis staffs as a test of their devotion to the order.

Despite their violent ways, the Morgukai had a strong sense of honor, and would even overlook right and wrong when their honor was at stake.

History:

The Morgukai were prominent during the days of the Galactic Republic.

Sometime before the Clone Wars, the Devaronian, Vilmarh Grahrk, recruited a pair of Morgukai warriors Tsyr and Bok to help him in a plot against Clan Secura. But the former was killed by Jedi Knight Quinlan Vos and the latter lost his hand to his apprentice, Aayla Secura.

During the Clone Wars, the Confederacy of Independent Systems offered to Bok the chance to resurrect his order. They cloned him, creating hundreds of new Morgukai, on Saleucami, intending to create their own clone army to use against the Republic. Their existence was discovered by Jedi Master Tholme, who informed the Republic, causing Saleucami to be blockaded. For five months, the Republic fought against the Morgukai legions. By the siege’s end, all of the clones, including their progenitor were killed.

During the rise of the Galactic Empire, the Morgukai cult went into recision and virtually disappeared with the last known (former) Morgukai, the Jedi Ma’kis’shaalas, being killed by Darth Vader in the Conclave of Kessel. ~Wookieepedia~

Membership: Only Force Sensitive Nikto are accepted into the Morgukai Religion.

Morgukai Warrior Talent Tree

Honor Bound
Once per encounter when you are fighting a member of the Jedi tradition or an opponent of a higher level than you, you may gain a number of temporary hit points equal to 5+your heroic level as a reaction. Any damage is taken is subtracted from these temporary hit points first, and if, at the end of the encounter, any remain, they are lost. You may take this talent up to three times; its effects stack.
Prerequisites: Force Sensitive

Jedi Hunter
You gain a +1 bonus to melee attack and damage rolls against characters with one or more levels in the Jedi class, Jedi Knight prestige class, or Jedi Master prestige class.
Prerequisites: Force Sensitive

Morgukai’s Mind
You gain a +3 Force bonus to Will Defense whenever a Use the Force check is compared to it.
Prerequisites: Force Sensitive, Jedi Hunter

Morgukai Staff Block
As Block talent, except you must be wielding a Morgukai Staff instead of a lightsaber.
Prerequisite: Exotic Weapon Proficiency (Morgukai Staff), Weapon Focus (Morgukai Staff)

Morgukai Staff Expertise
Once per encounter, you may make an attack with a Morgukai Staff as though it has reach of 2 spaces. If you have Weapon Specialization (Morgukai Staff), you may use this ability twice per encounter.
Prerequisites: Exotic Weapon Proficiency (Morgukai Staff), Weapon Focus (Morgukai Staff)

Equipment

Morgukai Cortosis Armor

Light Armor
The Morgukai Warriors used armor built of out of a Cortosis Alloy in combat, giving them resistance to lightsaber attacks. Morgukai Cortosis Armor has DR 10 against lightsaber attacks, but only when the armor is attacked – not the wearer. Once per encounter though, while fighting defensively, you may gain DR 10 against an attack from a lightsaber.

Morgukai Staff

Exotic Melee Weapon, large
The Morgukai Warriors used a unique weapon that was not unlike a reversed lightsaber; it had a long handle made of Cortosis Alloy, with a small blade similar to that of a lightsaber on one end. A Morgukai Staff has DR 10 against all lightsaber attacks. A Morgukai Staff is a double weapon. You can attack with both ends as a full-round action, but both attack rolls take a -10 penalty. The blade deals 1d8 energy and slashing damage, and the staff end deals 1d6 bludgeoning damage; you may choose which end to attack with, using one or both ends if you make multiple attacks.

I like a lot of what you've done, but the Morgukai were not a Force tradition.

Meh... kinda have to be Force sensitive to construct lightsabers in Saga though.

Looks good.  And whether or not they were a Force Tradition, I think you did what was needed to make them as true to their tradition as possible.

And what would that have to do with the Morgukai -- who don't use lightsabers? They use cortosis (or was it phrik?) staves.

To be true to their warrior tradition, Force Sensitivity would not factor into it. Bok and Tsyr, the two iconic examples of the tradition that we have, were just very skilled warriors (Elite Troopers?), NOT Force-sensitive. Their whole gimmick was that hated the Jedi and had trained themselves to be good enough to challenge Jedi (although as we see in the comic, we often see that the Morguakai are not quite the equals of the Jedi).

The concepts detailed in this thread are interesting and well-balanced -- but do NOT accurately reflect the Morgukai tradition (which should probably be an Elite Trooper tree).

I'd also dip into some Bounty Hunter for them, specifically the talent tree in the LECG that allows one to go after Jedi.
And what would that have to do with the Morgukai -- who don't use lightsabers? They use cortosis (or was it phrik?) staves.

Which in its essence is a lightsaber pike [JATM]. Although… I can take your and jormundre’s posts into consideration!

I think we can solve the issue by explaining the Cortosis Morgukai Staff as an advanced melee weapon or even an exotic melee weapon… thus they wouldn’t have to be Force sensitive in order to create it.

Although I like the idea of it being a PrC Talent Tree for the elite trooper… I think it should be available to lower level PCs. However with that in mind lower level PCs would more than likely take Armor Proficiency, ect. from the soldier class. So a PrC Talent Tree might be best!

However… with this in mind, I would have to alter the Attune Armor Talent. I would have to get rid of the DR 1. Possibly change it back to what we find in the SECR’s entry (p.107) and permanently improve the Dexterity bonus by +1. But again, being non-Force sensitive... I'll have to scrap this Talent all together.

And although BH class talents would be nice… Saga is cross-class friendly!

Thanks again for the constructive criticism, I will make the changes and then repost!

Have you read the issues of REPUBLIC featuring the Morgukai recently? Their staves aren't really similar to lightsaber pikes. They are basically regular metallic staves with a short energy blade (maybe 6 inches, certainly less than a foot) at the end.

They're closer to, say, the electro-staff (but topped by a different type of energy) or possibly a staff with a fire blade (from GAW) at one end (I believe the description of the fire blade describes it as having a short blade).

Good luck with the tree!

Ok… as far as the Cortosis staff and armor go, I think its best, if worked this way:

Cortosis staff = Two-handed advanced melee weapon with Cortosis template [KOTOR CG]. Damage is 2d8/1d6 (if used in conjunction with feats, Dual Weapon Mastery, Long-Haft Strike, ect.)

Cortosis armor = Imperial Knight armor rules.

Here is the rest, I made it into its own PrC. What do you think?

Small point Cernunnos56 - the Nikto already have SE stats in The Unknown Regions (to make a Red Nikto, all you do is take the Nikto Survival feat which gives you the ability to reroll Survival checks, keeping the better result for the environment of your subspecies - in this case desert).
