The Frost Missilelord tosses out Cold Radiant Magic Missiles to take advantage of Lasting Frost and Burning Radiance. Wizard’s Fury can be cast every encounter with Salve of Power, allowing for a Magic Missile every round as a minor action. A second Magic Missile can be cast as a free action after a successful attack with Cleave. A third Magic Missile is promised by Combat Challenge in concert with White Lotus Master Riposte. The result is a very high DPR.

Update: Factored in Martial Supremacy. An Encounter Utility Power, it allows a reroll of Cleave on a miss. +25% DPR for Cleave and Deft Hurler magic Missile
of note: the deftly hurled MM can't be on the same target (unless i'm missing something), and the 3rd MM is not technically *guaranteed*, since it's WLMR occurrence relies on the 1st or 2nd missiles hitting (caveat: you may have factored that in, but i'm terrible at multiple-event-reliant math).

(and obviously, weapon as implement interpretation as necessary, but that's always the case) 

but a fun little build. 
Yes, it is true that the Deft Hurler Magic Missile must target a 2nd target. Yes, I have factored in the contingency into the Riposte Magic Missile.

He's using a drow long knife (heavy thrown) from the arcane implement proficiency feat as an implement for his arcane attacks.

RAW it is correct, RAI...not so sure lol. I like the idea though.
EDIT: Actually, I'm not sure it is RAW lol. The power itself has the weapon keyword and the power says an attack made with the weapon. MM would be an implement attack wouldn't it?
Exactly. So I think it doesn't work.

With that development, you're heavily dependent on the combination of Salves of Power, Wizard's Fury and White Lotus Riposte to get your damage across, which is conditional on getting hit back.

Not only that, but you have lower AC and HP and precious few surges (which you're burning with Salves of Power, along with your Magic Item Dailies); you're really going to have to sell me on how this is more than a theoretical build. IMHO you're gonna get mauled dealing your DPR.

I'm not convinced the current incarnation of the build is viable. It has some cute synergies (Frost + Radiant vulnerability combos are very pretty), but it has too many iffy aspects to it.
i view it as similar as sorcerors attacking using daggers (as implements, but they happen to be weapons) - but then, in the end, we're back in the hellworld that are weapliments.  we're always in this hellworld.
That's just not gonna fly IMHO. If the trigger calls for a Weapon attack, you have to attack with a power that has the Weapon keyword. Having an Implement count as a Weapon won't satisfy the requirement, because the issue is not in the weapon being used, but the power being used.

And that still doesn't address the issue that this build is very squishy by default, relies on a combo that makes it even squisher, and to top it all off deals its full damage while being attacked. Sell me on it, 'cause I'm not buying it otherwise.

Ah; i had neglected the original Cleave keywords; since this attack is part of cleave, and not some other power, it should indeed carry the keywords. excellent point. if deft hurler was something you could do *in addition to cleave*, that it may work. I concede the point (though i was more intending to playing devil's advocate, as weapliments truly drive me insane)


Don't worry about it, bro; that business boggles my mind, too.

But yeah, this build has its issues to be addressed.
The build if it worked, could have afforded to take Leather Armor Proficiency, for AC 45. In actual combat, various powers make him considerably less squishy and considerably more dangerous. As WLMR is a reaction, if he were to be hit, he could interrupt with Shield or Displacement instead of making an attack. Shadow Jaunt triggers Cloak of Translocation's bonus and gives insubstantial. Activating Reaper's Stance or Force the Battle punishes your enemies for standing next to you, Knowing that they'll be punished horribly for engaging you, they may opt to avoid attacking you at all.. With some form of power recovery, you can nova by spamming Trip Up after each Magic Missile. It isn`t even necessary to bother with engaging in melee and getting attacked as the 2 Magic Missiles alone are worth 140 DPR. This build is not weak at all.

Supposing that Deft Hurler does not function with Magic Missile, there is no reason to by a Hybrid Fighter. I`ll rerolr this as a Genasi Swordmage| Wizard/Morninglord/Demigod. This will increase the DPR of Magic Missile a bit.

Except that sword mage warding and dual implement casting won't work together.  Don't get the full bonus if you are holding anything in your offhand.
Hybrid Talent and the Swordmage Warding feats are filler feats. I couldn't think of anything that would increase the DPR further, so I just dumped them into AC. It really doesn't matter if I don't get that extra +2 AC because the +6 damage is far more important.
So that's -2 AC. Big deal: AC 46 will keep you alive.

I wonder how you force the riposte magic missile ? I don't see the catch 22 situation of the build, i.e. the magic missile attack triggered by attacking someone else...
It is my opnion that a squishy looking Wizard slinging Magic Missiles is a really good person to be taking out if you're a monster. Odds are that you'll get attacked and get to make the Riposte. If the Catch 22 is important to you, Hybridize Swordmage and take Shadar-Kai instead of Genasi. Replace Elemental Empwerment with Reaper's Touch. You lose some DPR but gain Aegis of Assault Magic Missile.
It is my opnion that a squishy looking Wizard slinging Magic Missiles is a really good person to be taking out if you're a monster. Odds are that you'll get attacked and get to make the Riposte.


Doubt that more than one monster per encounter will make that mistake, damage is too good for that ^^


If the Catch 22 is important to you, Hybridize Swordmage and take Shadar-Kai instead of Genasi. Replace Elemental Empwerment with Reaper's Touch. You lose some DPR but gain Aegis of Assault Magic Missile.

You sure you can get both Radiant and Subtle benefits on the same Magic Missile? Dual Implement Spellcaster pretty clearly reads that the only thing you get from having an off-hand implement is the off-hand's enhancement bonus to damage. Not anything else from the off-hand.

Also, you might want to read the PHB1 FAQ and look at point No. 16. That calls the Radiant Weapon's damage benefits into question because you're getting the radiant damage from a power, not the benefits that the FAQ state that you get. I'm bringing this one up because this point has been debated here fairly recently.
A Subtle Weapon adds its bonus to damage whenever you attack with combat advantage regardless of whether you are attacking iwth it or just holding it in your off-hand. You do not need Dual Implement Spellcaster to get the bonus damage from the property. You receive property bonuses whether you have Dual Implement Spellcaster or not, such as when you use an off-hand Thunder Wand.

A Radiant Weapon  adds its bonus whenever it is used to deal radiant damage. A Radiant Weapon also has a Power which can be used to make all damage dealt with it radiant damage. According to the PHB, a Paladin who uses a Flaming Weapon to deal fire damage with a Radiant power deals fire and radiant damage and adds the Fire keyword to that power. A  Sorcerer with a Flaming Dagger can use it to make all of his attacks deal fire damage and gain the Fire keyword.

So, there is no problem at all. I can use the Radiant Weapon to make Magic Missile a Radiant power and receive the item bonus for dealing radiant damage with it and also receive the bonus from Subtle Weapon when I attack with combat advantage.

Subtle Weapon is one such weapon where you do not need to attack with it to receive the bonus. I totally did my research on this, so it's all good. I could use a Subtle Waraxe, which I'm not proficient with as a weapon or an implement and still get the bonus.
Let's say that you have a DM who thinks it's ok on melee attacks but not implement attacks (MM as a melee is ok, it's the others ones he's wary of).  What off-hand weapon/implement would you choose then?

DPR = Damage Per round ~= Chance to hit * damage on a hit KPR = Kills Per Round. 1 Kill = 8*Level+24 damage = DPR/(8*level+24) KPNR = Kills Per N Rounds. How many standards can you kill in N rounds?
I'd imagine Staff of Ruin is always a solid choice.

Not in this (special) case: Staff of Ruin is item bonus, same as Radiant Weapon.
I can't imagine there being anything particularly useful as an off-hand besides the Subtle Weapon. So, it is a very good thing that a Subtle Weapon functions regardless of how you use it. (I checked in Character Builder, so I am completely sure about this.)

If..

you have light shield proficiency

&

Can use "any light blade" (spiked shield) as your secondary implement. (or if you don't actually need a second implement)

...

Take a Rhythm Spiked Shield.. you get the shield & Rhythm bonus.. and are NOT required to have the Spiked shielf weapon proficiency.. unless you use it for an actual weapon attack.


Other options...

Wraithblade.. (if you are a multiclass rogue).. refrain from dealing your sneak attack damage.. except when you crit.. thus never run out. (thus never loose the class ability, so the item allows you to deal your sneak attack damage every time you crit).


Tyrants Weapon.. knock prone when you crit.

reapers axe .. when reducing a non-minion to zero.. shift 1.. & melee basic attack.

prime shot.. +1-3 damage if no ally is close to target than you.

mages weapon .. gain proficiency.. (depends on interpretation.. pick spiked shield.. to gain shield proficiency)

defensive .. add enh to defences when fighting defensivly or second wind.

I;m sure there are other.. back to work tho...
Do you have an update for this after the recent rounds of nerfs?

No Salves of Power and, most assuredly, Subtle weapons don't work now.

It looks the DPR is going to be in the 40s now for the L16 build.
