Ranger/Doomguard Marauder/Eternal Defender (Inspired by LDB's Ranger/Pit Fighter/Demigod build)

Hey guys, this is my 1st new thread on CharOp board. :P
1st of all, thx LDB for his awesome Ranger/Pit Fighter/Demigod nova build, my current build is completely based on his work.

1760 Lightning damage NOVA!
90 At Will

In a nutshell, my build employs Strike of Unmaking (Doomguard Marauder's lvl 12 utility) to ingore resistance, and thus takes advantage of Shocking Flame (Stormsoul Genasi racial feat) and Promise of Storm (Stormsoul Genasi racial enounter), and finally I use Eternal Defender ED to dual wield Fullblade for a bit more dpr. Now Since we got Dragon shard for better nova/ at will DPR, I switched back to Demigod/chosen for better utility and defense.

Here is the build:

Comparison with LDB's Ranger/Pit Fighter/Demigod

- My build has slightly higher average nova burst damage ( 1760 vs LDB's 1694).

- Strike of Unmaking could potentially offer better team synergy, i.e. it removes monster's resistance like radiant, insubstantial etc for one round per encounter.

- If the team's leader does not have a good/reliabe way to boost +hit, Doomguard's lvl 16 feature, Inevitable Doom (When you miss with a melee weapon attack, you gain a +2 untyped bonus to your next melee attack roll against that creature.) may offer some edge in personal dpr boost.

- Eternal Defender lvl 24 feature also make this characeter reach +1, though we wont get prime shot feature if we are not adject to the target, but sometime, reach +1 may be very useful.

+1 Fortitude over LDB's build (detailed analysis by LDB can be found here.)
+4 Reflex

slightly lower at-will dpr (90 vs LDB's 92)
-1 AC
-4 Will (since we have the godly Coif of Mindiron (epic tier), it may not be as bad as it seems in an actual encounter.)
LDB's build has an enounter regen of 8 while bloodied and a massive daily regen of 28 to increase the chance of survival.

Comments about optional gears:
War ring = extra dmg when crit
Ring of Draconic Zeal (paragon tier) = daily extra MBA, this is handy when u rolled lots 2s, 3s for your fullblade during the nova round.
Boots of Eagerness (heroic tier) = extra move action per encounter
Golden Ring of Teros (epic tier) = + 2 AC and Fort while not bloodied
Hero's Gauntlets (paragon tier) = again if you dont have a good + hit boost, this is handy to increase the accuracy of Blade Cascade, and you get 1/2 your healing surge value as temp hp.

Also, we might consider Demigod/Chosen for better utility and higher Will Defense at the cost of slightly lower nova damage.( as LDB pointed out anything above 1660 damage is over kill)

Any thoughts/comments are welcomed Smile
Thanks for the write-up, man. It's appreciated.

Now, you may want to work on fleshing out the lower levels. Again, I recommend Demigod or Chosen for your defensive adjustments.

At the very least, I suggest you list the order in which you plan to take your feats and powers.
Hey, I found something very pretty for this Ranger.

Eberron Shard of Lightning

When you bind this flashing dragon shard crystal to your weapon, sparks fly whenever it strikes an enemy.

Level: 22
Price: 325,000 gp
Implement (Dragonshard Augment)

Property: You gain a +5 bonus to damage rolls with lightning attacks that use the augmented weapon.

How's that for awesome? Now you should definitely go for Demigod, you have plenty of damage potential. Also, you're probably right up there with the Pit Fighter in DPR thanks to this.
Personally I prefer ring of free time over golden ring of teros... not only does it give unconditional always-on resist 5 all. It also has a free action encounter power(which can be used once per round for the entire encounter if you've passed a milestone) which gives you a minor action. Useful for nova, if nothing else, it means you can add an off-hand attack(nonchalant collapse for example) to the nova.

@lordduskblade: Wow, thx for mentioning the shard, I have updated my build to demigod/chosen now

@Kaerius: I definitely agree with you on Ring of the Free Time.  However, unfortunately Frown, this build is limited by amount of gold/gears generally available to a lvl 30 character, and I simply can not afford another lvl 29 item.
