Nihil, Human Revenant Assassin (Backstory & Build)

Nihil awoke with a violent shaking sensation, his body involuntarily spasming; slamming against the walls of the wooden box that held him. With a gutteral growl, he surged upward, splintering the coffin lid, sending shards of broken wood and churned earth flying in all directions. When the cloud of dust settled, he looked with hate-filled eyes upon the shallow hole he rested in, and the scene of carnage surrounding it. It seems his attendants had just begun to bury him before something tore through them like a scythe through wheat, their bodies lay eviscerated and trampled around his unmarked grave. He brushed the dirt from his clothes after lifting himself free of the tomb.

Grabbing a cloak from a fallen man's corpse, he wrapped it about himself before continuing to loot the bodies. As he reached for a heavy dual-handed sword, his eyes widened as his hand was bathed in moonlight. Where the shining moonlight touched his skin, it revealed a decayed and skeletal appendage. Exhaling heavily, his breathing ragged from the rage boiling within him, he spat a torrent of curses at the night sky, cursing those who had taken his life, and vowing revenge. With his newfound existance, he would become the Reaper, a tool of Death incarnate. His oaths to the vile Gods of Death would lend him the strength he desired to vanquish those who took him from his past life. Now undying, he would hunt them one by one, each soul a blood debt repaid to return him to his former self...

**EDIT** Build Coming Soon! (Please let me know what you think of the story so far!)
I greatly enjoyed seeing a Revenant played with knowledge of their past life(Hero amnesia makes me get the "Blehs".), And who dosent enjoy a character with some wrathful cause???

Seriously though, kepp the build/story coming, im intrigued.
Well, the build might be up this evening, but I'm not sure yet. (Just beat the new Modern Warfare 2 & Left For Dead 2, working on Assassin's Creed 2) As for the story, I can definitely scratch up a tad more for that this evening. His memories are more of haunted nightmares of his former life, he was an assassin in his former life as well, so he's re-living all his kills in a sense as well as learning some subliminally hidden messeges through the reenactments.
...And he was known as Nihil, for in life, and in death, he would embrace the emptyness, the hatred, and the pain. He would become nothing, a shadow whose only intent was bloodshed. Orphaned at a young age, he was taken off the streets by his mentor, the leader of the Kagè. After years of rigorous and brutal training, he was faced with one final test to prove his loyalty to the clan- perform a ritualistic killing upon the only person his life to show him kindness, another trainee named Kiara. When he refused, and instead struck a vital blow against his former teacher, his life as a rogue assassin began. Abandoning his clan, and fleeing their laws, he was marked for death. Hunted for years, he evaded their kill-teams until one fatal decision cost him his life. Thinking his lover dead, his former clan had kept her imprisoned within their temple for years, performing unspeakable acts of torture to break her very soul until she was nought but an empty vessel, a puppet for their master to use as bait to lure Nihil back to them. Sacrificing himself in her place, he allowed his clansmen to present him to their master, who promptly acted upon their ancient laws and put him to death. Risen from eternal slumber to enact his revenge, Nihil would stop at nothing until his old brethren answered for their sins in blood.

**EDIT*** Re-did the initial storyline a bit, how's this sound? This is the version I'm going to use.

By the way, just watched Ninja Assassin (MOST EPIC MOVIE EVER!!!) if you're wondering where part of the motivation came from.

Would anyone be interested in getting a game started up on RPoL? I'd love to try this guy out when he gets finished...
I know Fullblade's where the damage is at, but would a Spiked Chain be good for an Assassin? After seeing the movie Ninja Assassin, my stock in spiked chains went up a bit, especially since mine would be reflavored into the kunai whip-chain like in the movie.
I havent yet seen Ninja Assassin, but the lone warrior archetype is timeless. I like the re-write, it keeps your original flavour and boosts its visceral content.
......so far so good.

Also if you multi-class Rogue and take the Spiked Chain multi-class(With Windrise Ports of course), you should be able to get some SERIOUS nova rounds.

I would need the Windrise Ports & Chain feats, which I don't have access to.

Probably just going to use a fullblade but I'm not sure.

Any ideas on the build?

First off, I saw Ninja Assassin and the movie is incredibly badass.

Now that I've said that, I made a version of Nihil for you. Take want you want from the build but great job on the back story. Like all of my builds they are suggestions and for the lower lvls(to play from heroic to epic) choose the same items at the lower lvls. Also choose the feats at whatever lvl is more beneficial to you. Enjoy!!

A few questions:

Whats the info for Windrise Ports, like the actual background info?
Spiked Chain = Flail, why all the light blade feats?
Would Dragging Flail or w/e it is be cool? I think it would, to similate the Assassin's use to snare/drag opponents and such.

Could you possibly add some sort of level-by-level breakdown so I know when/how to assign the ability scores?

Any other ideas, any way to make it better?

Does the Revenant fit the theme?
I'm using one of these for my character pic...which do you think is the best?33uv47n.jpg

Spike Chain Training (multiclass feat)
Benefit: You gain proficiency with the spiked chain. You can treat the spiked chain as a double weapon and a light blade. As a double weapon, the spiked chain deals 2d4/2d4 damage, and it gains the off-hand property.

Windrise Ports Regional

Benefit

You can take class-specific multiclass feats for two classes other than your own, rather than one. You also gain one additional language of your choice.

As for Dragging Flail you could include it if you like. as for the pictures, i would say number 1 is more accurate. the ninja one is cool but that is a modified kusari-gama. but who knows maybe your dm will allow you to have that weapon and count it as a spiked chain. i will work on an optimized brake down for ya.

Thank you very much, and yes, please add Dragging Flail, I think it's beneficial since it could lend some help to allies too by making foes Prone and such. #1 was 50/50 my choice, that and the Master of Chains cover photo.

Stupid question:

Where IS Windrise Ports? FR?
Yeah its FR

ok so i put dragging flail in if but since it was a late addition i had to put it in at epic tier. like i said this is all an idea feel free to toy with and change and mold to what you want.

For items i am gonna throw out some ideas for your wish list

Weapon - Enhancement

Starting Lvl 1 - Spiked Chain

Heroic - Relentless, Subtle, Lifedrinker, Staggering. Dread, Graceful, Great Hunger, Vampiric, Blackshroud, Wraithblade

Paragon - Relentless, Subtle, Lifedrinker, Staggering. Dread, Graceful, Great Hunger, Vampiric, Blackshroud, Wraithblade, Jagged, Bloodiron, Withering

Epic - Relentless, Subtle, Lifedrinker, Staggering. Dread, Graceful, Great Hunger, Vampiric, Blackshroud, Wraithblade, Jagged, Bloodiron, Withering

Wraithblade is optimal so you can get sneak damage more often then just once an encounter.

I will draw up more item list later hope this helps!!

Yes it does help, thanks very much, can't wait for the rest...keep me posted!
Ninja Assassin ROCKED!!!(saw it yesterday.)
Also, pic two if you are going for the Ninja theme.

Pic 2's good, but I wanted him to appear somewhat "dead" in a sense, so probably going to use that Shadar-Kai pic.
Anyone else have some ideas to add?
How's the rest of the build coming along, Juju?

I have pretty much done all I can for ya, all that is left is for  you to put on your customizations and personal touches on it. Try to incorperate your backstory in the powers you choose for additional flavor. When you finish him, I will be more then happy to look over it and give you my thoughts but when it comes down to it, he is going to be your character and you are going to play him. I look forward to seeing what you do from here on out. Any other build ideas feel free to hit me up.

Oh no no, I meant about the item list you said you were gonna write up, that's all.

As for the Dragging Flail, how is it gonna get added, are you removing one of the Two-Weapon Feats?
o my bad

and Dragging Flail was added when i posted the lvl by lvl outline. lvl 26 feat pick up

as for item list just go with lower lvl versions of all the items i had origanally picked out, at lvl 1 you probly dont have magic items unless you dm says so.
What did you get rid of to add it in I meant?

and do you happen to have the stats for it? (dragging flail)

If you get a chance could you do a level 2 build on the CB? My computer's screwed up so I'm using my friend's and he doesn't have the CB.

Thank you very much, I shall let you know how it turns out! Laughing
If there's any material not in: DMG/PHB 1 & 2/AP/FRPG/FRCG, could you please list its information?

Also, the original lvl 30 build & the newer one have feat conflicts...like the sneak of shadows feat being moved or removed...what happened?
i think i may have added draging flail in place of sneak of shadows
i think i may have added draging flail in place of sneak of shadows

I think you just moved SOS, but not sure what you took out.

Is there anything in his build not covered in these books: DMG/PHB 1 & 2/AP/FRPG/FRCG, could you please list its information?
Juju, I was also going to let you know- I've got an idea in mind to get a game going on over @ RPoL if you're interested, might have some others joining too. Let me know!

Nice job - on both story and build.
Through the ages, many would wonder "Does art imitate life or does life imitate art?" I wonder "Does the art of discourse on the internet imitate the art of discourse in life or does the art of discourse in life imitate the art of discourse on the internet?"
Thank you very much, going to tweak the story more and make it longer, need some time for creative juices to flow though, been sick & stressed from work lately so I'm trying to make up for it.

This seems to be rather more gear than a level 2 character would have, either by being created at level 2 or earning level 1 treasure parcels.
Right, should be:

1 3rd level item
1 2nd level item
1 1st level item
1 1st level item (from starter cash)

Choices?
What items should I keep?
keep the following
Lvl 3 item - Rhythm Blade Spiked chain +1
Lvl 2 item - Acrobat Boots(upgrade to catstep boots)
Lvl 1 item - Amulet of Protection +1
Lvl 1 item(from cash) - Magic Ki Focus +1

Lvl 3 item - Rhythm Blade Spiked chain +1
Lvl 2 item - Acrobat Boots(upgrade to catstep boots)
Lvl 1 item - Amulet of Protection +1
Lvl 1 item(from cash) - Magic Ki Focus +1

What's the stats for the Rhythm weapon?
How are Ki Focuses purchased?
Does Ki Focus add as extra damage to weapon & power attacks?

Ki Focus is for any implement powers and the Rhythm blade gives you +1 to ac and reflex when you wield it in your off hand (note that your spiked chain training mc feat allows you to count it as a double weapon and gives it the off hand property as well......)
