old rules
(okay maybe not)

Welcome fellow card designers from all across the globe, I welcome you to my humble contest. Here you will be tested to your creativities end. You will endure hardship, loss, and perhaps even victory. Few shall rise to the top, and the winner shall be known as the "Top Card Designer of YMtC" by all who care enough to remember him/her.

Round one will last until 6:00 PM Saturday, EST, on the 17th.

Create a common, blue creature that has a converted mana cost of 4, a landfall ability, and has the sum of power and toughness equal to 3.

-----

**New Rules**

While this contest was once run entirely by me, it has since changed to allow different designers to create new criteria.

Each round has two parts, the first part is a period for entering cards. This period is normally two to three days long, in this time anyone may enter a card into the round except for the person who won the previous round. This is to avoid chronic consecutive victories by one member and promote new designers to take on the new criteria with gusto and possibly create the next criteria themselves.

After this period is over, we then move onto the second part. The second part is voting. When you vote you are voting for the card you like the best. You may think it has a superior design or may believe that its flavor is a virtual masterpiece, how you come to think a card is the best is up to you. Anyone may vote during this part, even the person who made the criteria and people who didn't enter a card. We actively encourage any and all members to participate in inside this contest. The voting period is normally two to four days long.

The person who receives the most votes wins that particular round and makes the new criteria. In case of a tie, whoever posts first gets priority. If a person does not make a criteria within five or so days then it passes on to the next in line. Ocassionally a member may suggest a criteria and it will be posted. We are a friendly bunch, and normally the winner will go along with the suggestion unless they have something else in mind that they really want to try.

These rules are constantly changing and evolving with time and I reserve the right to change them as the contest runner.

Funny story: InQuest Magazine (I think it was InQuest) had an oversized Chaos Orb which I totally rooked someone into allowing into a (non-sanctioned) game. I had a proxy card that was a Mountain with "Chaos Orb" written on it. When I played it, my opponent cried foul: Him: "WTF? a Proxy? no-one said anything about Proxies. Do you even own an actual Chaos Orb?" Me: "Yes, but I thought it would be better to use a Proxy." Him: "No way. If you're going to put a Chaos Orb in your deck you have to use your actual Chaos Orb." Me: "*Sigh*. Okay." I pulled out this huge Chaos Orb and placed it on the table. He tried to cry foul again but everyone else said he insisted I use my actual Chaos Orb and that was my actual Chaos Orb. I used it, flipped it and wiped most of his board. Unsurprisingly, that only worked once and only because everyone present thought it was hilarious.

Hi guys! So, I'm a sort of returning player to Magic. I say sort of because as a child I had two main TCG's I liked. Yu-Gi-Oh, and Pokemon. Some of my friends branched off in to Magic, and I bought two pre-made decks just to kind of fit in. Like I said, Yu-Gi-Oh and Pokemon were what I really knew how to play. I have a extensive knowledge of deck building in those two TCG's. However, as far as Magic is concerned, I only ever used those two pre made decks. I know how the game is played, and I know general things, but now I want to get in the game for real. I want to begin playing it as a regular. My question is, are all cards ever released from the time of the inception of this game until present day fair game in a deck? Or are there special rules? Are some cards forbidden or restricted? Thanks guys, and I will gladly accept ANY help lol.

That's what RPJesus tends to do. That's why I don't think he's a real person, but some Magic Card Archive Server sort of machine, that is programmed to react to other posters' comments with obscure cards that do in fact exist, but somehow missed by even the most experienced Magic players. And then come up with strange combos with said cards. All of that is impossible for a normal human to do given the amount of time he does it and how often he does it. He/It got me with Light of Sanction, which prompted me to go to RQ&A to try and find if it was even possible to do combat damage to a creature I control (in light that Mark of Asylum exists).

Thanks!  It's the first time I've posted one of these on here, and I was going for something that both fit the conditions and somewhat fit the theme of Zendikar (since it's tied so closely to Landfall.)  Glad to see that by at least one person's opinion, I didn't completely screw it up.

Wait, CMC restriction aswell? Man, placing this many restrictions sucks out the fun.

Sorry you feel that way, I always thought that it was under restrictions that someone's true creative mind could reveal itself. Well... this may only help you're point but the Coverted Mana Cost is off... It's supposed to be 4 or 5 not 1. I'll give you 24 more hours before we move on to voting.I'll try to make the next challenge a bit more friendly to you.

Hey Everyone, if you have a few minutes I'd like to point you to two links that you might find interesting. The first is a plane of my own creation that is still in the works. I am always happy for some assistance in working on it.

Yeah, but this is the second card with landfall that must be blue. Those two criterias are fine, but the problem is that it's similar to the previous one, and that I, at least, don't get a lot of inspiration by having the CMC and P/T decided already.

Whenever you play a land card, each player may return target creature to it's owner's hand.

Does this work the way I want it to?

It has protection from itself, but then again so does Progentus. I guess that means that you can never return Roil Predator to it's owner's hand, but I like it.

Blade5x, black isn't allowed... I like the card you made, and it's an interesting concept, but perhaps you should make a Blue-Green instead?

Hey Everyone, if you have a few minutes I'd like to point you to two links that you might find interesting. The first is a plane of my own creation that is still in the works. I am always happy for some assistance in working on it.

The second is a link to the oldest continuously running contest in the You Make the Card forum. It is truly a contest like no other. It is faithfully run by a handful of regulars who are always kind and open to any new comers, please drop by and check it out if you're interested in making cards!

Oh, I didn't catch that when I posted, even though I knew that. Try again:

Kavu Axeshark Version 2.0 (4GU)

Creature - Kavu Mutant

Landfall - Whenever a land enters the battlefield under your control, choose one - ~ gains intimidate until end of turn; or ~ gains protection from black until end of turn.

That's better.

Also, if anybody wins this contest, I'd be happy to frame any winner's cards.

Sets that I am excited for: Worldwake Rise of the Eldrazi New Phyrexia Grixis Cube!!

Kavu Pathfinder WG
Creature - Kavu Scout {U}
Protection from land.
Landfall - Another target creature you control gains protection from the color of your choice until end of turn.

I have the same problem with women.

I condone the use of the word Kafkaesque. However, I'm presentely ambivalent. I mean, that can't be serious, right? We're April 1st, right? They didn't mod RPJesus for off-topic discussion when the WHOLE THREAD IS OFF-TOPIC, right? Right.

Blue players get all the overpowerered cards like JTMS. I think it's time that wizards gave something to people who remember what magic is really about: creatures.
Initially yes, Wizards was married to blue. However, about a decade ago they had a nasty divorce, and a few years after that they began courting the attention of Green. Then in Worldwake they had a nasty affair with their ex, but as of Innistrad, things seem to have gotten back on track, and Wizards has even proposed.
You are my favorite. Yes you. And moments like this make it so. Thank you RPJesus for just being you.

I don't really get the PfL that RP got, but I'll vote for him. Blade would have won if he did something closer to this:

Name [color]
Creature - Kavu
Landfall - Intimidate/Protection from [own color].
X/X

Right now, I don't see why I would give it Pro-black.
