D&D Symbols

Hey, folks; I've been revamping the smilies lately, (see my gallery to check them out; give me feedback!) and I wanted to add in those long-requested D&D symbols as well while I was at it.

How do you like these?

as long as i have to make an image tag, i'd say your gallery is nice, but useless.

also, the arrow/sword/combat icons seem a bit crude. maybe this is due to improper resizing or transparency? unless it's on completely white background, they do not look as nice.

Regardless of what anyone else might say, this is excellent.

Here are the PHB essentia, in my opinion:
  • Three Basic Rules (p 11)
  • Power Types and Usage (p 54)
  • Skills (p178-179)
  • Feats (p 192)
  • Rest and Recovery (p 263)
  • All of Chapter 9 [Combat] (p 264-295)
A player needs to read the sections for building his or her character -- race, class, powers, feats, equipment, etc. But those are PC-specific. The above list is for everyone, regardless of the race or class or build or concept they are playing.

Any thoughts towards expanding the dice set?  (d4, d20, etc etc)

That's the thing--these are going to be brought into the BBCode family if I can manage it.

Unfortunately, they have to be GIFs right now--I can't upload PNGs to go for partial transparency. I'm gonna work on that, but right now getting them up at all is more important than getting the edges pretty.

If there's a demand for it and somebody can find me some decent reference images, sure.

The cut and paste option on this board is better than the last one, so it is as simple and copy and paste, like I did with the smiley below to test it.

copy and paste is all well and such, but - you'd still need to have a page with all the image links in front of you to accomplish that. also, it voids offline editing of your post - you can easily type without TinyMCE editor, but copying the white mana symbol to e.g. Notepad will give you some headaches.

@zamm: hoping to see them implemented soon. can't wait to type someting like again. not necessarily with those tags, but i'm sure you get it.

Folks may also appreciate having the stylized "diamond" symbol that most often appears between the usage and power source keywords in power descriptions.

I mean, we could use the ♦ symbol that appears under the "special symbols" list;  However, a diamond which is more accurate to how it appears in official print (as well as being scaled properly relative to symbols above) would no doubt be appreciated.  It would also be convenient if such a symbol appeared in the smilies list alongside the ones you mentioned.

I can't say... your linked image doesn't seem to be displaying.

The 4E SRD displays an accurate diamond shape (pg. 32) though.  Make that a smilie along with the others Zammm has illustrated (pg. 55), and that'll do.

No idea; possibly they're because I removed the extraneous code around them?

I can probably mock that up, sure. I'll have to hit up Bunny for a reference image...well, no, maybe I can make it from scratch. It's pretty simple.

I'll also see if I can whip up some d20 roll result images--they might just come in handy if we get that dice roller for the boards Bunny was poking CM about a while ago. The trick will be making them legible at that size... maybe make the number an overlay?

Give me a day or four and we'll see what I can come up with.

You were likely writing that response while I was editing my last post.  ;)

Anyway, like I said, the 4e SRD has some really nice images to work with.  Since they're (seemingly) in a font form in the PDF, they can be easily zoomed to aid in an accurate smiley translation.

Good luck!

Ooh, nice! That'll definitely work.

I also found a decent enough reference image for a d20 with the face up, so we'll see what I can cook up for that.

All right, so it didn't take a couple days after all--I had some time to spare this evening. Here's the diamond: a9dfb0c8d65c53805471528cabbd127c.gif?v=144

And I also cooked up this d20 image; unfortunately making the numbers actually show up on the face turned out to be impossible without making the image way too big, but the overlay looks decent enough:

So, is it passable? If so, would you be interested in seeing a complete set? I could cook up a full range of similar images, one for each possible result in all the major denominations.

Here we go; a complete set of dice:

I'having a hard time reading the numbers on these dice. either the color needs to go, the contrast of the number increased, or the symbol upsized.

Shouldn't the first die (the d4) read "4" instead of 1?

Otherwise yeah, great work Zammm.

Now, if only there were a die smiley that could represent a percentile die/dice.  That would be tricky.

Yeah, it should, but I uploaded the wrong one by mistake and was too lazy to fix it. :P

I'll try to tweak the contrast a bit and check back; getting rid of the colors isn't really an option. If they were the same color, it'd likely be difficult to tell the various kinds of dice apart at a glance, whereas the colors are unmistakable.

Question. your non-basic attack symbols, could you make the background transparant instead of white?
In the homebrew-thread, I'dd use them for the sticky for the monster statblock (and the monster statblock has a gray background, not white ...)
