All I've got to say is that I miss the old Java applet chat that was here way back when; apart from some issues with the fact you implemented some IRC commands but not all of them, it was worlds better than the chat now.  I hope the new one is along the same lines, with different rooms for D&D talk, Magic talk, pick-up games, and the like.

I am having the following issues in chat:

Currently when i click on an user, the option to either block or pm that person will either appear under thire name of outside of the chat window depending on far down the chat user list that name is.

As for freature request,i'd like the following to be put back into chat:

More rooms, for different topics like a Magic room,in which the users can play a game of magic.
At least two rooms with dice rollers.
a lsit of emoticons that can be used in the room.

A note about character and world creation

Character and world creation are a form of expression. The point is that some people don't have much to say...

I'd like to be able to click on a user's name on the right and select User Profile. Right now we can PM User and Block User. An option to go to their profile would be cool. And have it open in a new tab of course so we aren't forced out of chat.

Interesting; this looks like a significant improvement over the previous chat system. Hopefully this one will be capable enough to allow us to bring the R&D Chats back on-site. I'll have to poke Gard into testing it.

A couple problems I noticed: the Help menu pops up in a weird place--it should be higher than it is, not way down offscreen like that. Also, the help box mentions that clicking a user's name should give you an option for reporting, but that doesn't happen--it's just PM and block.

Third, once you click on a user's name, the PM/Block options will pop up on mouseover of every user's name for the rest of the time the applet is loaded.

Fourth, when you load up the applet and it gives you a summary of the chat so far, every comment is listed as being from "Anonymous", when they aren't.

For suggestions, right off the bat I'd suggest adding /voice and /devoice commands so that moderators can allow people to speak in a moderated room without giving those users the ability to do anything else. That would be exceedingly useful for R&D chats.

An interesting idea (but probably low-priority) would be an automated bot-info system like Datatog on EFNET's #mtgjudge and #mtgrules channels. Type in a card name or rule number preceded by ! and Datatog will give you the full text of that card or rule.

And so people say to me, "How do I know if a word is real?" You know, anyone who's read a children's book knows that love makes things real. If you love a word, use it! That makes it real. Being in the dictionary is an artificial distinction; it doesn't make the word any more real than any other word. If you love a word, it becomes real.

Reiterating once more how vital it is to allow for different rooms right off the bat for D&D and Magic; most of the people I know who used to go to the old chat stopped with the new one because it was one chat for everything, and you had MtG people talking about MtG in the same room as D&D people, and sometimes you weren't sure if someone played D&D or MtG or whatever.  We need different rooms; there shouldn't even be a "General Chat" anymore, it should be the old muted Lobby and then at the very least a D&D General Chat and Magic General Chat so we aren't all trying to talk over each other.

I'm hoping that things can vastly improve; some of my best memories on this site was before the "socialization" of everything, when it was the old vBulletin forums and the Java chat; I would spend most of the day in the chat just talking to people, maybe grab a quick one-shot game in the evening (it would be awesome to somehow integrate things with the VT when that's live; not sure how though maybe a way to create a game using VT if you're a DDI subscriber?).  I want that feel to come back.

No offense but really many of the changes since the launch of 4e were mistakes (new forums, Gleemax, no chat for ages and then the crappy Flash/Flex 101 type chat) and really made some of the community leave.  I hope these changes bring us back.

I think that they are trying to program a chat application that can be imbeded in the web page on each group.

This works fine but our experience with it currently is that it times you out far to fast and too often.

Would like to see the user list as its own section on the right of the screen as well.

The ability to popout the chat would be useful as well.

What specific additional rooms would you like to see? Just a Magic, Magic Online, and D&D?

Well, I wouldn't mind a throwback to the old chat where it was (speaking from the D&D rooms, since I never went to the Magic ones) like a general chat, 3 or so game rooms, I think there were 2 private game rooms that had to be reserved.  Not sure if that's really something you want to spend time doing with the VT being available (or just about) since it kind of defeats the purpose of that.

I'd honestly like having a few different chat rooms in the area, so I could go to another room to discuss something with somebody if it was cluttering up the main discussion; for instance I used to have rule debates in the old 3.x days and it wasn't fair to other people trying to talk for the 2-3 of us arguing the rules.  Having a couple of chat rooms would allow for "grouping" the chats, so people just talking abotu various D&D things could be in General chat, but if 4 of us wanted to talk about say the new Shadowfell book we could jump to another room.  I don't think you want to give us the ability to create our own rooms for liability reasons, but having a couple of rooms could be nice.  It would be really nice to be able to make topics for rooms (so in the aforementioned example a room could have its topic changed to "Shadowfell book discussion") but I don't know how you could work that properly without letting anyone change the room topic willy-nilly.

I would also like a game room, since the VT doesn't support certian games (d20 modern and star wars come to mind ) they would need the dicebot, that i've been assured is already in the works.

EDIT: I'd also liek the ablity to aadd a friend from inside the cat it oculd go on the same menu as block/pm user
