What's in the Egg

So for the next adventure, the players will be dealing with a gitterrible that has come into possession of a mysterious egg. They are currently worshipping this egg as something divine, and are quite zealous about keeping the egg. as you can expect, this causes problems when some hunters from the slave tribe the players are staying with right now manage to run off with it.

there is the potential during the adventure for the egg to hatch.  So what's in it? Whatever it is, it should be a rare enough (unique?) thing that neither the players, the slaves, or the gith recognize the egg for what it is.

So what's in the egg?

a dragon. and not a terrible top level SK, but a good ole fation D&D dragon. maybe its the last one from a time long ago where dragons were more abundant, and its been in an inert hibernation like state.

or maybe, athas' first god.........

or....both......dun dun duuuuunnnnn~!iFrame RemovediFrame Removed
I was thinking the egg might be from an air drake nest or maybe a sink worm. Something that would be horrifying to a group of low-level PCs and add some real tension to the final conflict with the gith. But I feel that's pretty in-the-box and want to see what others might dream up.

Anything but Mothra. ;)

The seed of an Elder God. Who promises great power in aiding in the overthrowing of the sorcerer-kings, only to later be revealed to a be a threat far greater then the sorcerer-kings themselves (perhaps one they fought long, long ago and thought destroyed).
A tarassque.

Koschei Valta the Deathless - en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Koschei - or to be more precise his phylactery. A few weeks after they obtain the egg, Koschei Valta is killed elsewhere, and returns to his phylactery. He sees the party, gets angry, beats them up and takes the egg. You may have just introduced a Big Bad to the story
