First let me say great work...Grade A.

Now for some ideas I used...In that first room in the keep (with the rat swarm) I replaced the goblin sharp shooter with a Goblin Picador

I love the idea of whats his name becomeing a lich...but I think any undead would be cool. In thunderspire there is a deathlock wight leading a group of undead as a side quest...it could be a great spot to reflavor

The fight with Bairwin was really amazing. Though the PC's didn't figure out what happened specifically to Old Sara (failing the challenge), being the group that they are, they just went from store to store intimidating the hell out of each store owner. When they reached Bairwin's shop I triggered the encounter when they ran an intimidate check with a nat 20 on the roll. However for cinematics, I had him use a smoke bomb to cloud vision before he ran to the back room and head for the altar. When they did defeat them, I didn't want the PC's to gain one helluva lot more money, so the majority of items in Bairwin's shop were spirited away as being illusions. (What do you think of this turn of events?) It may have been my players rolling terribly, but I would suggest that the ongoing necrotic damage power of the Orcus Cultists should have a recharge of only one number, or maybe only an ongoing damage of 3. This alone was really taking the toll on them.

The Skill challenge for Old Sara should be bumped up several levels or the DC's for each check dropped. The latest errata update lists that a Difficult DC for a skill challenge should be at max 15 for levels 1-3. A DC 20 doesn't appear on the new chart until somewhere between levels 9 and 10.

In a surprising turn of events, the PC's made some REALLY nice diplomacy rolls with the Lord of Winterhaven, and Winterhaven's Chamber of Commerce, and in their silent gratitude, (don't want the town's people finding out about a cult running out of the city) sold my PC's (for a reasonable price) the deed to Bairwin's Shop with the promise that they would seal the entrance to the cult lair.

Hope these help development, look for more next week.

I had not seen that update. That explains alot. I ran a Level 1 Nature skill check when the PCs tried to find the way through the forest from the kobold cave to the burial site. And they just almost made it, even though rolling high. I will adjust skill levels then.

I have not run this encounter with my group yet, so I have nothing to compare with yet. But I read somewhere else that this encounter (or rather the original one from the FR conversion) had almost been a TPK for some other group.

I like the harpoon thing. However, I have not seen any harpoons been introduced in 4th Edition. The Pull 3 power. Is that not to strong? A bull rush can only push a victim 1 square?

I really like the creepy things on the wall to add atmosphere. I am going to add that to a couple of rooms.

it was one of the first monsters with 4e stats...through DDM game it had 4e stats on back, and being a common I had a ton of them laying around...

Been away on business trip for a week now, so I have had no chance to upload any of the changes I have done. But a lot of new material is soon to be uploaded once I get home.

Little did I expect that the H1 conversion alone would span 36 pages when I started, but that's the size of it. Therefore I have decided to split the changes into seperate documents. One guide for H1 and one for H2.

Thanks to some great input from you guys I have added a lot of new material the last week. These are the changes made to H1:
- Water Cave have all its treasures at the bottom of the pool. A new map have been added to the Battle Maps (page 20 and 33)
- New House Rules for underwater swimming and drowning (page 27)
- Updates of all Skill Challenges based on WoC DMG changes
- Blood writings on walls by Sir Keegan, influenced by Orcus (page 19)
- Dark dreams as PCs approaches keep (page 19)
- All H2 material put into a seperate conversion guide

I have now started the H2: Orcus Conversion Guide!!!

Great if I can get some ideas on this one as well. I wanted to tie together the locations into the story better than the 3 major ones described in H2.

So far I have added:
- A prologue on Paldemars first visit to the Sea of Shadows (Page 2)
- A more detailed background for the events that have happened in Thunderspire (Page 2-3)
- Some small modifications on the Hooks (Page 3)
- Changes to the Locations in H2 (Page 4)
- More info on the Mages of Saruun and Orontor Hook (Page 4-5)
- A small change on Vadriar the Sage (Page 5)

I am not so much into miniatures. Are just using power point for showing where PCs and monsters are, but I managed to find the stats for the Picador now. Thanks! Thats make the stats official and quite interesting to combine with the pit trap. I will see if I add it later, am right now focusing on H2.
Just wanted to chime in and say that I always anxiously await your latest updates to this thread. My group finished H1 a couple weeks ago and I was keenly interested in keeping Orcus somewhat involved throughout the module series so your material has been invaluable. We start in on H2 this coming Sunday and I'm sure I'll end up using some of your material. I'll post any ideas I might come up with as well as we play through the module. Again, kudos on a great job. Keep it coming!!
I have added a new Map of the Tunderspire Mountain to reflect the changes made to the locations.

Have added the first encounter to the conversion. It is a rebuild of the "Cistern" encounter in the Echoes of Thunderspire Labyrinth conversion guide. I have changed it to a mix of wraiths, specters and wraith minions. Any feedback on improving it is appreciated.

If anybody found any official source on a shadow dragons it would be intresting. Is it included in the new Draconomicon

I made some smaller changes to the Drowning House Rule in the H1 Orcus Conversion guide. Dividing the normal speed with 3 and 6 when swimming underwater, rather than 4 and 8. This makes more sense as most players have a speed of 6.

Also changed the Blue Slime tactics in W11: Water Cave. Dazed and Weakend opponents get grabbed by the slime and pulled down the chute instead. Makes for a more interesting fight.
I have reworked the "Tower of Sunset" encounter from the Echoes of Thunderspire Labyrinth article, and combined it with the "Transfer Portal" encounter from the Shadowrift of Umbral Forge article.
I am quite satisfied with how the map came out. Any comments or other ideas?

We are probably way behind everybody else, but my players just finished A4 and captured Agrid. They are now taking him to Lord Padraig to accuse Bairwin. I wanted my lawful PCs to learn the hard way that they will have to show evidence to judge somebody in a lawful society. Therefore I made some changes in the Revelations chapter on page 5 of H1: Conversion Guide.

That is a nice way of looking at it, and i'll be sure to throw that at the beginner group. The advanced group took out Bairwin right away after finding out what happened to old sara. Then they brought Agrid in and let him go.
It would be great to turn the Green Dragon in Thunderspire Mountain to a Shadow Dragon instead. Does anybody know if there will be Shadow Dragons in the new Draconomicon or not?
Or has anybody seen a conversion of a Shadow Dragon to 4th Edition? Would be great if it was possible to get a Shadow Dragon at a similar threat level as the Green Dragon.
Anybody who is good a 4th Edition monster creation that can assist?
I have started with a first draft of the Shadow Vortex in the middle of the Sea of Shadows were Paldemar have the Mages of Saruun entrapped by Shadow Binders. Maps will come later. Feedback appreciated as always.
The changes are on page 11-12 in the H2: Conversion Guide

i know you've pretty much moved on from the H1 guide, but besides minor spelling errors in various places, you mention one of the people kidnapped is a vagabond named Evrion. (page 9) However, Evrion is not mentioned anywhere else in the guide.. is this just flavor or is it somewhere else in the guide that I missed

No you are right, it is just a person I added for the flavor. As the kobolds were attacking travellers on the roads, it would feel strange if all the captured people were villagers. So I added an "outsider" to the community.
On page 13 in the S2 encounter I have added a negotiation option when confronting Denoa, which will allow them to get a valuable tool in the fight versus the shadow dragon in the S3 encounter.

If you could help me with spelling errors it is much appreciated. English is not my native language so I might very well be using strange words, phrases, etc.
I added some more material in the end of the background section (page 3) detailing more on the activities of Paldermar the recent time.
I also expanded on the Seven-Pillared Hall. The Seven-Pillared Hall is no longer a place of safety, but of unrest and intrigues as the Bloodreavers are trying to position themselves as the new masters.

"But lately this uneasy peace has been broken. For reasons unknown the Bloodreavers have been allowed to trade in slaves in the Hall, right under the nose of the Mages of Saruun who previously did not accept that kind of trade. Brugg, the leader of the enforcers that work for the mages, is often seen at Rothar’s Taproom in close conversation with the hobgoblins. He has started to turn a blind eye to the harassment and beatings of innocent bystanders who has object to the slave trade. The Ordinator Arcanis who used to patrol the Hall once in a while, has not been seen for weeks now and the time between occurrences is growing. Many of the residents of the Hall who are objecting to this new order are meeting at the Halfmoon Inn, to discuss and voice their complaints. Among them is Surina who tries to convince the rest that the time for talk is over, and it is time for them to act."

As a result of this I stole the "Bar Fight!" Encounter from the Rescue at Rivenroar adventure, and adjusted it to the setting (increased it to level 4), see page 8-9. I also did some changes to the map in order for it to fit into the Hall (page 23)

I have made some changes to A1: Into the Mountaion in the beginning of H2.
I wanted to change the clues given by Rendil so the PCs did not have to just jump up on the train but actually learn something at the Seven-Pillared Hall first (see page 5). I have added more material to the Question and Answer section of the Seven-Pillared Hall (see page 8).

Ok, I will go buy it tomorrow and see if I can bring it down to a 5th level solo challenge
I noticed you mentioned bringing Kalarel back as a lich, but I don't see him in your H2 conversion. Were you thinking it would be more in line to bring him back in H3?
I noticed you mentioned bringing Kalarel back as a lich, but I don't see him in your H2 conversion. Were you thinking it would be more in line to bring him back in H3?

No I have just not had time to do that part yet. Are trying to make the adjustments a little bit in a gaming timeline so people that have already started on H2 still can use the conversion guide.

My thinking was the following: As I am decoupling The Well of Demons W1-W10 (Area 11 on the Map) with the Tower of Mysteries T1-T3 and placing that at The Palace of Zamduul (Area 15 on Map) allowing the PCs an extended rest between these areas - I will need a new encounter before T1-T3 which is the Minotaur High Priest palace. In this area I intended to add Kalarel as a lich the PCs will have to face before going after Paldermar.

What do you think? Could it work?
I have added some more background on what has happened with the Bloodreavers on page 12.

As Irontooth and Ta’ak was formidable opponents and leaders of the Bloodreavers in H1: Orcus Conversion Guide, I had to make Krand a tougher challenge than in the original adventure. I decided to keep the challenge of
Torog’s Shrine at encounter level 6, but changing the mix. I took away the Dire Wolf and gave Krand a Barbarian Template (just loved to try that one out even though it would have worked better on an orc than a hobgoblin maybe), turning him into an elite opponent worth 400 XP.

He looks quite challenging so the big question is if he is overpowered or not? I have decided to not ad the rampage class feature as it feels to powerful combination, or? (Page 13)

That could work out fine if you can find a decent reason for a lich to be beyond the well of demons. I do like the idea of Kalarel failing Orcus not once, but twice though.

I think I will have to make him into some special kind of Shadow Lich, maybe stepping out from images in a hall of mirrors with perverted followers looking as dark copies of the players. Could tie well into the Mirror of Shadows I introduced in H1. Where using the mirror against those minions will have some effect on them.

Have not worked through the set up yet.
I would like to make the H2 a little darker as we have Orcus playing in the background.
Any ideas out there how to make H2 smell of undeath and betrayal of the minotaurs of Saruun?
Well the labryinth is full of these minotaur statues right? Everytime they pass by (as a flavor sort of thing) have them make perception checks for no apparent reason ... as it turns out every single statue is being used by Paldemaar as a telescope to see what is happening around the maze, the statues are always watching the PC's to see what they're doing... kinda in a scooby-doo'ish way but the players (not necessarily their characters) may get the feeling that they're being watched.

Yes that could be cool. I have updated the Shadow Dragon you sent and also added some visions the wielder of the Rod of Ruin carries in order to see into the past. I think that could be an interesting angle. However, I am over working in China right now and have not been able to FTP anything yet so the update won't come until Saturday when I am back
Here is a new update of the H2: Conversion Guide. I have added the following new things:
Page statistics for the Young Shadow Dragon (thanks Linov for the help with the eldar shadow dragon statistics).
Page 2 & 12: I added some visions invoked by the Rod of Ruin for the wielder of it.
Page 13: Some changes of the letters found in C4

Started to draw the stats for Kalarels return as a shadow lich in the Hall of Shadow Mirrors. You can find it on page 28. Also updated page 27, changing the demon into the shadow dragon instead.
